RedTeamGo! Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Hello Tiger Fans, I was reading the McGonigle thread and I noticed a lot of talk about the youth movement on the position side going on in Detroit. Where does that leave Greene and Tork? Both are having subpar starts to the season. Greene seemed like he was on the precipice of greatness a couple years ago but last year, even though he was an all star, his numbers took a dive compared to the year prior. As a Reds fan watching the worst OF in baseball night in and night out - what would it take to get Greene from Detroit right now? Or is he not someone they would move? Tigers seem like they need bullpen, right? Quote
Tenacious D Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Are you in an official capacity with the Reds organization to negotiate on their behalf? If so, any Greene trade starts with Sal Stewart, Hunter Greene and some vintage Marge Schott boudoir photos. 1 Quote

Tork & Carpenter probably don't have tons of value but you could make a pretty good power package for some team. If forced to guess I'd say Harris would target young starting pitching - probably just decent prospects, Quote
chasfh Posted April 16 Posted April 16 I’m not sure either Riley or Tork get traded as long as there is not a better alternative in the wings to replace them. Even so, I would assume the return for each will disappoint. 1 Quote
oblong Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Both are players a good org should be able to replace fairly easily. Riley wpuld be fine to hold on to if he wasn’t going to be expensive but he’s not a guy I would worry about losing either. Quote

This is true, but it is also true that a good organization wouldn’t pay much for them in trade. My guess is that, barring abject collapse by either, each will be held until 2029 and will be allowed to sign with the highest bidder, which won’t be us. 1 Quote

There are very little secrets in baseball. Don’t let nostalgia force you to overpay. These aren’t special players. Quote

The bigger problem is that they aren't going to get anything major for Greene. He's got some value to a team, but he's not a star and he'll be getting more expensive. Quote
chasfh Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Harris definitely does not do deals just for the sake of doing deals. Quote

I don't know that Greene is a star. But his bat is important and will not be that easy to replace. 119 wRC+ as a 22-year old, 134 as a 23-year old, and 145 through 100 games last year. Everyone remembers the last 60 games when he slumped, but the 260 games before that he definitely performed at an All-Star level. I'm surprised at how quickly this board has turned against. He wouldn't be the first guy to suffer through a 2-3 month slump but then right the ship in a big way. Way too early to give up the on the guy. Quote

He is stiff and injury prone and seems like someone who will not age well which is one of the main reasons I think he wouldn't bring much back in a trade. 2 Quote

I agree that he probably won't age well, and I wouldn't sign him to an extension. But to think his production will be easily replaced is wishful thinking. Quote

Hart Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Does Matt Mclain have any hope? He is the underperformer for the Reds I would be interested in. Quote

I don't mind the K's as much as I mind the subpar OPS (.806 last year and .724 so far this year...). Those aren't terrible. For a regular player. But for Riley Greene... I think that's terrible.
