That  probably is the only scenario that works as a plus for the Wings depending 100% that Petterssen decides to play well in Det. The complication is the need to work out the three way since no way Larkin goes to Vancouver.

Robertson turned down 8×15 from seattle.

he aint signing here either.

All the more reason to get a third team involved he would sign with and get picks and/or prospects. Most good NHL players aren't going to want to sign here long term.

Just a reminder that Kenny Holland picked not one but two players instead of Jason Robertson: Michael Rasmussen and, with the pick immediately before Robertson, Gustav Lindstrom.

Go back to his draft picks and it is just miss after miss after miss. The franchise is still paying for Kenny’s ineptitude.

the atlantic is a murderers row and the wings simply have been left behind.

Yeah...ok...they're going to have to start over a bit.  I don't think anyone disputes that...it would be the case if they kept Larkin.

They need to get better and younger...Robertson is both of those things.  That doesn't preclude them from getting EP or another distressed asset from elsewhere.

It sounds like the Stars and the Kraken were working on a sign and trade for Robertson that fell apart because he wants mega $$$$.  The thinking was that the Stars would leverage their return on Robertson to acquire Larkin

Maybe 8x$15 was not enough for him, but I suspect he just did not find Seattle appealing.

Does seem likely that Dallas is in on Larkin, but not in a direct Robertson for Larkin swap. Maybe that’s Robertson’s choice, but Dallas is really deep at center. Maybe Borque or Hintz is the centerpiece that Stevie is looking for.

In fairness, Robo was taken with 39th pick so every GM in the league passed on him.

While the end was no doubt terrible and he made some poor decisions, the entire tenure was exceptional. The franchise still has 3 banners up with Kenny as the GM and another as Assistant GM.  He’s already been inducted in the Hall of Fame as a GM and will go down as one of the most successful GM’s of all time.

He had Hakan Andersson scouting Europe before anyone else was and he had Mike Ilitch’s checkbook before there was a salary cap. Talk about riding coattails.

Probably all true but as I’ve gotten older I’ve come to the realization that kissing up to the boss, riding coattails, and being in the right place at the right time are all skills in themselves.  This type of success is often not a result solely of blind luck.  This is especially true in a business environment.

Holland picked the subject of this thread at #15 overall, when in a re-draft he'd comfortably be 5-7 overall. The #14 and #16 picks in that draft? Julius Honka and Sonny Milano.

twitter says larkin likely to end up in minnesota.

adjust your expectations accordingly.

Stramel and a few future 1sts could work...MN smells like a team that could be bad in a couple of years.

Move Cat, Larkin and anyone else older than Seider/Raymond for picks and prospects and see what happens

Not sure who the reported source is on this, so take with caution. That said, I'm all about trading DeBrincat, Larkin, and anyone old than Seider/Raymond as Shin mentioned above. This presents and almost forces us into rebuilding the rebuild.

I think this may have been his only good pick, though he missed on Pastrnak who went later.

Here are his draft highlights, keeping in mind that in early years Detroit routinely traded away top picks. He drafted a few good players, a few decent players, a lot of mediocre players, but there were some years where he drafted players that were never heard from again. The franchise is still suffering from his abysmal drafting.

if all you get for dylan larkin is a 3rd/4th line forward and some late round firsts, you have failed.

and all of you who were touting how larkin was the best piece on the market and the wings were going to get a haul for him better have some salt to go with your crow.

stramel and two late firsts would be disastrous.

Stramel and a few...not two..depending on the years is a jumping off point.  What would you want?  You seem to dislike most every proposal on here...what ..specifically...do you want

There is nothing abysmal about his 1998-2014 drafting. It was astoundingly good actually given the lack of high picks. The Wings only picked in the top 25 overall twice between 1999-2012. Then he nabbed Mantha and Larkin as mid 1st rounders in 2013-2014, that’s punching above your weight. 2015-2018? Yeah, blech.

Cat to Buffalo for that #4 pick they want to flip and Logan Stanley..throw in Chiarot if they want a d coming back

All about this. If we got the #2 pick from San Jose and the #4 pick from Buffalo and ended up drafting some combo of Ivar Stenberg, Caleb Malhorta, and Chase Reid, I would be elated.

I’d rather have McDavid and Matthews.

Not available. The Wings need to reset, they need to add talent and value. It shouldn't take long if they can add enough young talent.

Stramel and two firsts would be a disaster in my opinion, unless those firsts somehow turned into a top 3-5 pick. I told myself from the start and stated here that I was prepared to be underwhelmed. I still hold that mindset. While I want a top 3-5 pick, like San Jose's or Buffalo's picks, I expect not to get one. I expect to get a Justin Verlander trade type of haul with an NHL player thrown in. I think we'll get someone's 2nd or 3rd best prospect but not their top one, plus another prospect in the 4-7 range, plus a 1st and a 2nd round pick. So something like Danila Yurov (C/LW) + Ryder Ritchie (RW) + 2028 1st + 2027 3rd.

If I HAD TO trade with Minnesota and couldn't involve a third team, I would want the something like Jesper Wallstedt + Charlie Stramel + 2028 1st + 2029 1st + 2027 2nd. Then I would go and shop Gibson for more picks in this or next years drafts and make Wallstedt my new starter. Won't happen though. I, we, all of us, will collectively be underwhelmed I fear.

Why do I think this? I don't have a good, logical answer for why I think this really. I think Yzerman lost his slapshot here and isn't the same GM he was in Tampa Bay. The other thing is, I think Yzerman won't want Larkin back on this team and will want to get rid of him ASAP. Therefore, I don't feel he's going to play hardball with him and make him show up to camp and play the season.  As a result of not wanting to play hardball I think he's going to acquiesce to Larkin's demands, send him to Minnesota, and get back an underwhelming deal.

I also think Yzerman, Jimmy D, nor Chris Ilitch have any intentions on tanking this upcoming season. I think they'll want an NHL player of some note thrown into the deal, like a Yurov. I also expect Yzerman to attempt to "replace Larkin" via a mid-level free agent signing or two at center, as opposed to just riding it out and sucking with young guys getting their shot. Prove me wrong Stevie, do something big and impactful. Commit to another rebuild and get us some top picks and prospects.
