The Mets, Padres, other orgs have spent a lot of money over the past number of seasons to less success.

The Dodgers have a lot of money, but they also are a smart organization that focuses on identifying talent in trades with other organizations and develops them while they are in their organization. It isn't just about about the money, they also are sitting in a position where they can make the trade today, with multiple players inside of MLB's Top 100 prospects included, and still be one of the best farms in the game after the trade.

Having the most money to sign players also means having the most money to hire top-of-class front office, coaching, drafting, development, and training personnel.

In fairness, they had all day today to cajole other teams into a better deal.  Maybe there just wasn't one.

We won’t ever know.

The same way we won’t ever know if there was a better deal had we had a different team president.  Harris has shown more prowess drafting than he has making deals.   It’s not really his strong suit.  It wouldn’t surprise me if he pays sticker for his car.

I like the two prospects.  Both should be in our future plans highly starting next season.   You don’t have to watch many videos of Zyhir Hope’s swing to see why he’s so coveted.   Ryan has really good stuff that looks it will fit right in line with what Jobe & Melton have.

I literally NAILED this and 80% of you said I was bat**** crazy. Good stuff for the Tigers. Now Mize and Torres. Both should also net top 100 prospects.

You said the Tigers would land 2-3 impact players. It is unlikely that any one of the three prospects ever turns into an impact player.

That's the thing people, including me, tend to forget: The Verlander return was considered a very good one at the time.

It was also the trade that really highlighted for me just how sketchy Pipeline is as a ranking source. It's basically two guys who are plugged into the system and need access for their reporting. Look at the FanGraphs board and you'll see they have Hope at #57, not #25. He's also got five Dodgers above him, rather than four.

https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board

OTOH, FG has River Ryan at #22, not #68—which, at age 28, he better be ranking that high. But that also means he is probably moving right into the rotation as soon as he comes off the List. He's a strikeout guy who gives up almost no walks and has a FIP- that hasn't been above 81 since 2023, and that 81 was at the major league level. So he could actually be the sneaky good get in this deal.

I would like to see somebody really do an in depth analysis of the two trades.  To me, having the centerpiece be a hitter instead of a pitcher already makes this deal way more friendly to the Tigers.

Also, Daz Cameron had not yet made it to AA.  I feel much better about getting a guy with excellent production at AA than a guy who was still all projection.

I think I'd be surprised if anyone else gets sold now. If anything, I can see us buying bullpen help.

I think Torres is almost sure to go.   Mize has to bring a return larger than the Comp pick.

I think this makes sense.  An OF of Greene, Clark, and Hope keeps Carpenter at DH which should help his health.  Personally, I’d put Carpenter on the trade block, but I can see where is trade value might have dropped this season.

I like the fact that Hope has been a CF.  Doesn’t matter to me how they line up Clark and Hope as long as it makes sense.  I like the combination of CF range in multiple OF positions.

Carpenter will probably end up in Japan at some point.

Well, you didn't exactly literally nail this because you insisted we could and should get Sirota, but I'll give you props for getting the team right.

One thing that makes me feel better is Fangraphs has Ryan and Hope as medium risk. I'm still afraid of the boom/bust potential of these three though.

Agree.  Ride the rest of the way with Lee.  We need to find out if he’s sustainable and also what that glove is like at 2B.

Mize will all depend on the return and how much teams will bid each other up.   The draft pick is solid but that wouldn’t be help for at least 2+ years while a trade piece could help either now or next season.

He gets no props for getting the team right, everybody knew the Dodgers were overwhelmingly the most likely trade partner.

Doolittle of ESPN.com gives trade grades of A to the Dodgers, D to the Tigers and non-Dodgers baseball fans an F.

He also mentions the Tigers' "July collapse" (huh, 1-4 stretch is all I can think of) though.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/49469642/mlb-trade-deadline-grades-2026-tarik-skubal-los-angeles-dodgers-detroit-tigers-blockbuster

I value what ESPN says much less than I value what FanGraphs and MLBTR say.

However, I do value what ESPN says at least as much as what MLB.com says.

Not getting them would have set the organization back ten years though.

I have not seen this mentioned but I think it's worth being part of the discussion.  Does Hope look like he could have trouble with his weight down the line?  He looks like a bowling ball running back right now, even if his weight doesn't reflect this.  Maybe this is a good thing?

So ... Riley lite?

I'd be surpised if the Tigers can get a prospect to make it worth trading Torres.  Even though I know we have young guys ready to replace him.  The top of the Tigers lineup really looks a lot better with his bat in there, even more so being that he is right handed.  I kind of hope we just ride it out and keep him.

I can't see who would give us anything of value for a poorly-aging professional hitter who's already been on the List twice for internal owies and is a good bet to end the season on it a third time? I think he's ours, and honestly, I want him here for the rest of this season.

Didn’t they just sign Valdez this past offseason?

Valdez is a star?  He was an above average pitchers for 2 years and hoodwinked Harris for a bunch of money.

Seriously.  Anybody taking a victory lap over Skubal going to the Dodgers is delusional.

This sounds spot on to me.  The Tigers are fortunate the Dodgers are loaded with top 100 prospects right now and have deep, deep, pockets.

Exactly.  If somebody wants to give us a top 100 prospect for him, fine.  But I don't think we get anything close to that.  We probably get something like a Thayron Liranzo...a high risk guy in the low minors.

The guy I would like to see us trade is Torkelson.  Just not sure what kind of value he is.  I don't want to give him away for nothing.  But teams are always desperate for power.

I don't know how any of this works, but what are the implications for our draft comp pool if we have our own #1 pick, a Mize comp pick, a McG RoY pick? Do we get extra money to cover them? Does it mean we'd have to spend less on later rounds?
