1984Echoes Posted August 2 Posted August 2 River Ryan? 27 years old already... Nice K-rate and K-BB ratio though. Same with Brady Smith... at least he's 21 and in High-A. If this is the return for Skubal: Hope, Ryan, Smith... Then for those who said we would be disappointed... you win this round. I think Ryan goes straight to Detroit. Fetter will figure out what to do with him whether that's popping him into teh rotation or starting him in the bullpen, to work on him... Just a guess. Quote
Sports_Freak Posted August 2 Posted August 2 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Ryan_ Detroit Tigers edit On August 1st, 2026, River Ryan was traded to the Detroit Tigers along with outfielder Zyhir Hope and right-hander Brady Smith in the deal for Tarik Skubal. Quote

Tiger337 Posted August 2 Posted August 2 (edited) Rosenthal is saying the Tigers got Sheehan rather than Ryan. That would be quite a bit better. Nope, he just changed it. It's Ryan. Edited August 2 by Tiger337 Quote

That youth brings energy.. 1 Quote

Sports_Freak Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I'm reading Zyhir Hope is a LH hitting centerfielder. Uhhh...we just called up our CF of the future. And another LH hitter? Sigh... Quote
papalawrence Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I was hoping for a different outfielder, but 2 top 100 with one being #25, and another pitcher, that's probably the most I could expect from a rental. 3 Quote

It would weaken the position, but you wouldn't accuse them of rebuilding. Quote
Graterol Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Smart dodger fans shocked this was all they had to give up. Mlbtradevalues model has it as an underpay by the dodgers. That model is giving little value to smith and Ryan. How you value this trade depends on what you think of those two pieces. Smith actually sounds like an interesting piece. I assume Ryan goes into the rotation. Quote
Tenacious D Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Just be glad we avoided setting this franchise back another 10 seasons now! 2 Quote

The Lions are rewarded for drafting and developing. I predicted Skubal would be a Dodger a while ago. It's why I can't follow baseball anymore. The Tigers put in all the work of drafting Skull, developing him, working through his injuries, and got two Cy Young seasons and only two seasons to win. Quote

Tigermojo Posted August 2 Author Posted August 2 Plenty of time to trade the other pending free agents and let the kids play. Anderson has been scorching the ball in Toledo. Look forward to seeing what the Dodgers guys can do as well. 1 Quote

Given the circumstances, I think they made out fine. Although on principle still kinda hate seeing them sell while being not that far out of an actual playoff spot Quote

In the Dombrowski era the Tigers were able to at least able hang with the big boys. They were the ones acquiring the stars like Cabrera that other teams couldn't afford. Quote
Graterol Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Gleyber needs to be moved. Not only a FA, but Tigers need to figure out if Lee, Anderson, and/or Jung are worthy of being on a good mlb roster. Valdez/Melton/Olson/Jobe/River Ryan/Montero and FA or 2. Hopefully that is enough to build a solid rotation going in to next year. Need to get something for Mize. I would probably keep Flaherty unless tigs actually get something decent Quote

Twice injured hammy probably best left alone for the rest of the season but I'm sure it won't be. Quote
