I mean they did the same thing for Flaherty the year he was traded to the Dodgers so it's not unprecedented but agreed. Quote

I'd be amazed if they moved him before finalizing the Skubal deal. Once Skubal is moved, the value of Mize goes up knowing that they for sure would get a comp A pick for him. So now, unless we are getting back a prospect(s) that'd be drafted between picks 33 and 38 (usually) in the draft, there's no need to move him. This is a good sign though. We could make a cleaning this trade deadline and reshape this team for the next decade. Mize might fetch us a B+/A- type prospect (think top 75-100 prospect in all of Baseball). Not too shabby for a rental. Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Sitting Mize ahead of the deadline only means one thing for sure. They have no faith that he can pitch a game without getting hurt. Quote

I think you are right. They still may have had some leverage in pretending to be going for it but that is gone now with this move. I do think they may be close to a trade. Quote
SoCalTiger Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Trade all pending free agents Scot. It is the Adult thing to do at this point. Quote

romad1 Posted July 31 Posted July 31 The bullpenization of this team will result in an amazing 2024-like run. We just need to keep shuttling through RP until they confuse and bamboozle batters to the point where they surrender. Or, we are about to see 2 months of agony ball. Quote

I've seen more than one article this week linking them to Mize so no great insight of mine. Tiger337 Posted July 31 Posted July 31 I would rather the Tigers try to keep Mize beyond this year than see him be traded. Maybe they have determined that's not likely to happen though. Most of the Braves top prospects are lower level which doesn't excite me. Quote

Dan Gilmore Posted July 31 Posted July 31 I realize this is crazy talk, but could it be Mize has another one of his minor health problems and is just being given a delay to his rotation spot. Inconceivable. Quote

SeattleMike Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Heavy sigh. The Tigers have been sellers at 9 of the last 10 deadlines. And a lot of good all that selling has done them. Quote

I think people are going to be shocked by the returns that come in this trade deadline..... I honestly believe this trade deadline will launch the Tigers into a decade of winning. As long as Harris an Greenburg don't totally crap the bed here..... 1 Quote

Leaving the Brewers and Dodgers to fight over Skubal... I would love to get REALLY creative though and talk them into also taking Valdez... and we could even take injured Spencer Strider to match up salaries/ contract (not exactly... but just enough to give them some relief for taking on Valdez). This is my... ... yes, a bit of a dreamworld. Who do we get for Mize? we're not getting Cam Caminiti... or if we DO get him, I'll be wildly shocked... JR Ritchie plus...? Ritchie could slot into the starting rotation after he gets "Fetterized"; right now he's in AAA struggling a bit with control after doing the same in MLB with the Braves... And when Strider gets off the IL... I'm converting him to closer in order to try and keep him off the injured list. Just my 2 cents. Quote
