I didn't say they can't be beat, but they have won the last two World Series and have played in 5 of the last 9 because they can just go out and give $700 million to Ohtani, and sign Freeman, Betts and now Skubal. With Freeman and Betts aging, they can just sign/trade for their replacements. Teams like the Tigers have to execute perfectly on their drafting and developing or else they will be in perpetual rebuild like they were after they traded Verlander.

The Mets, Padres, other orgs have spent a lot of money over the past number of seasons to less success.

The Dodgers have a lot of money, but they also are a smart organization that focuses on identifying talent in trades with other organizations and develops them while they are in their organization. It isn't just about about the money, they also are sitting in a position where they can make the trade today, with multiple players inside of MLB's Top 100 prospects included, and still be one of the best farms in the game after the trade.

The more I look at Ryan, the more I like him.   I suspect this was more of  Harris/Greenberg selecting him than the Dodgers not wanting to give up some of their other piospecrs.   He’s also big league ready once his hamstring heals.

My go to guy for pitching analysis - Nick Pollack - loves Ryan if he's healthy.  "elite fastball and absurd breaking pitches".  That makes me feel a little better.  "If healthy" is familiar theme though!

So you're saying, in your opinion, he's a can't miss prospect? When a huge percent of prospects do miss...

I don't see where he said anything about Hope being a "can't miss prospect" in the post you quoted.

The haul isn't much better than the JV trade. The results have to be better

We won't know for a few years.  Maybe more than a few because of Smith.  Most of these types of trades don't work out so well but we can hope (pun intended).

“If healthy” was also the rap on Skubal.

Just because the Mets haven't won doesn't mean they don't have an advantage over other teams. Cleveland is a better team if they could have afforded to keep Lindor. The Mets not winning with Lindor is irrelevant.

I would have prefered one useful relief pitcher!

That might be Ryan! Although I think he'll start for now.  The relief pitcher for this year might be Jobe.

Ryan probably goes into the rotation. Depending on when Flaherty comes back and any other moves take place, this looks like the updated rotation:

Mize/Valdez/Melton/Flaherty/Ryan

Jobe and Montero to the bullpen.

Ryan last threw 90 pitches in mid June. He's not going to drop into a starting slot without build up rehab. If they want it quicker it will be in the bullpen.

Big question marks on the LA guys. Hope traded twice already. Ryan 200 IP in how many years? Last guy is just a lottery ticket. Better than a comp pick but I doubt this is what people were hoping for. Maybe we'll get to see Skubal in Detroit at the end of August.

We traded for power. Hope has tons of it and both pitchers have high octane fastballs. heck even if both end up in the bullpen it's a win. We all wanted more because Skubal is great and a Tiger but the Brewers didn't really have an outfielder to trade and we have infielders and need a right fielder who can reach the seats in Comerica. And I know it doesn't really matter but having a potential black star in Detroit doesn't hurt. Hope has good speed and a strong right fielders arm as well. The trade for me is a solid B to B+ .

Now trade Mize and Torres Mr. Harris . Pedal to the metal.
