Mr.TaterSalad Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Margo also has a new traditional country album out called Hard Headed Woman. It's a return to straight country form for her, after deviating into the pop-rock genre for a couple of her prior albums. As always, it features great songwriting and singing from her. So far, Don't Let the Bastards Get You Down has been my favorite track off the album. Quote
oblong Posted November 26 Posted November 26 I’m bummed I missed her show. I saw her last year. She’s very good. Quote
casimir Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Listened to my youngest and her high school choir sing Christmas carols at the zoo tonight. Good grief, cold, cold, cold. Cold enough that high school kids were actually wearing coats and gloves. Quote

I wanted to watch the Blues Brothers movie a while back, and the only way I could was to pay for it. Spit. A buddy of mine featured the soundtrack at his wedding reception. It was a hit. Quote

But every time it’s on TV I sit and watch. The sequence starting with Boom boom thru Rays music is so awesome. I could do without all the Carrie Fisher stuff though. there is a video on YouTube where a guy shows all the filming locations today. 1 Quote

And how couldn't you love Cab Calloway? 1 Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted December 9 Posted December 9 Raul Malo died yesterday. I knew it was bad, but I was hoping he'd make it through Christmas at least. This really sucks. Good guy. Great voice. 1 Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted yesterday at 04:59 PM Posted yesterday at 04:59 PM (edited) I was sad to hear of the passing of Raul Malo. I am no Mavericks superfan, but they always put out quality records. They were one of those alt-country/americana pioneers in the 1990s along with artists and groups like Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo, Wilco. They also blended country, rock, and Tejano styles to create their own unique sound. RIP! Edited yesterday at 05:00 PM by Mr.TaterSalad Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted yesterday at 05:04 PM Posted yesterday at 05:04 PM If ever there was a music artist that existed today, but you felt like they time traveled from a different decade it's Zach Top. Zach Top is straight out of the 1990s with his obvious 90s country sound. It's clear he was influenced by the likes of Alan Jackson, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Clay Walker, Pam Tillis, Patty Loveless, Reba, etc. Here he is with a 90's country take on one of my favorite Christmas songs doing a cover of Dolly Parton's Hard Candy Christmas. Mr.TaterSalad Posted yesterday at 05:23 PM Posted yesterday at 05:23 PM I don't know if Billy is the best technical guitar player out there today in music. But damn if he isn't a good picker and player. Here's a video of him before he made it big-ish. Quote
oblong Posted yesterday at 08:00 PM Posted yesterday at 08:00 PM There's a great video of him playing that at the Opry. I saw him at the Strand Theater in Pontiac in 2016 with about 200 other people. Then I saw him at St. Andrews, then the Fillmore with Greensky, then by himself at the Fillmore and Pine Knob. He sold out Bridgestone in Nashville. Good for him. He's a legitimate good guy and I'm glad he's a local MI boy. Quote
lordstanley Posted yesterday at 08:44 PM Posted yesterday at 08:44 PM (edited) My mother died a couple of weeks ago and we put together a playlist of some of her favorite songs/artists. Roger Whittaker, Anne Murray, Nana Mouskouri, John Denver, Kris Kristofferson, various hymns. Edited yesterday at 08:44 PM by lordstanley 2 Quote
