Margo also has a new traditional country album out called Hard Headed Woman. It's a return to straight country form for her, after deviating into the pop-rock genre for a couple of her prior albums. As always, it features great songwriting and singing from her. So far, Don't Let the Bastards Get You Down has been my favorite track off the album.

Listened to my youngest and her high school choir sing Christmas carols at the zoo tonight.  Good grief, cold, cold, cold.  Cold enough that high school kids were actually wearing coats and gloves.

RIP Steve Cropper

Classics, both.

I wanted to watch the Blues Brothers movie a while back, and the only way I could was to pay for it. Spit. A buddy of mine featured the soundtrack at his wedding reception. It was a hit.

I have 2 VHS copies. 2 DVD copies. ‘Special” editions. And it’s been on my DVR for a few years.  But every time it’s on TV I sit and watch. The sequence starting with Boom boom thru Rays music is so awesome.  I could do without all the Carrie Fisher stuff though.

there is a video on YouTube where a guy shows all the filming locations today.

Totally agree on the Fisher stuff. And how couldn't you love Cab Calloway?

I was listening to that for a few hours today.

I always forget just how good it is until I put it on each year, which is pretty much the best thing you can say for any Christmas record.

I was sad to hear of the passing of Raul Malo. I am no Mavericks superfan, but they always put out quality records. They were one of those alt-country/americana pioneers in the 1990s along with artists and groups like Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo, Wilco. They also blended country, rock, and Tejano styles to create their own unique sound. RIP!

If ever there was a music artist that existed today, but you felt like they time traveled from a different decade it's Zach Top. Zach Top is straight out of the 1990s with his obvious 90s country sound. It's clear he was influenced by the likes of Alan Jackson, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Clay Walker, Pam Tillis, Patty Loveless, Reba, etc. Here he is with a 90's country take on one of my favorite Christmas songs doing a cover of Dolly Parton's Hard Candy Christmas.

There's a great video of him playing that at the Opry.

I saw him at the Strand Theater in Pontiac in 2016 with about 200 other people.  Then I saw him at St. Andrews, then the Fillmore with Greensky, then by himself at the Fillmore and Pine Knob.  He sold out Bridgestone in Nashville.  Good for him.  He's a legitimate good guy and I'm glad he's a local MI boy.

My mother died a couple of weeks ago and we put together a playlist of some of her favorite songs/artists. Roger Whittaker, Anne Murray, Nana Mouskouri, John Denver, Kris Kristofferson, various hymns.

Couldn’t listen today. Someone in China doesn’t understand it’s thanksgiving week and also that just because your calendar is free it doesn’t mean you aren’t busy.

Didja ever get this done?! I’m listening/watching while cleaning a junk drawer. It’s a desert island album for me.

No. I need to.  Haven’t been in the office since, what seems like 3 weeks ago.  Then I  got Cameron Crowe’s memoir and have been chasing up some stuff he’s mentioned.  Great book by the way.

This morning I logged into the music portal for work to see if anything new was released yesterday and I saw that Gwen Stefani has a new song called Rich Girl and I wanted to see, just see, if it was a really bad Hall & Oates remake, so I found the song and listened and it's not. But I do have to tell you this, and it's been the case since 1995 or so. Gwen Stefani is the absolute worst. Musically, I dislike her more than any other artist who has ever existed. No Doubt killed the "Alternative" format. The second they started getting played the quality of the format went down the toilet. I was forced to play that No Doubt crap. Why not just play Madonna? But Madonna's better. Stefani's got that Nails on a Chalkboard voice and just everything is fake. She's so fake and artificial and no wonder she's a big star. Shouldn't have been the first thing I checked on this morning. It was like waking up and vomitting.

I heard this a lot the past couple of weeks on my TikTok feed. Has a National feel to it, IMO. I am out of it, so didn't realize that the guy who is behind Bleachers, Jack Antonoff, is well-known for writing a bunch of stuff with Taylor Swift.
