Sirius XM radio had a cool show this weekend of the top 125 American acts of the 1970s. They had their list and with each artist they played two songs. A nice way to do a countdown. Had it on my radio most of the weekend - even in the background while watching sporting events.

I listen to the Lithium channel and they had their listener voted top 20 countdown over the holiday weekend... generally agreed with it except I wasn't a fan of #1.... Everlong.  I'm fine with Foo Fighters but I don't consider that song #1 of that genre.  I saw a meme that said Foo Fighters is what would have happened if Disney got a hold of Nirvana.

Going to Weird Al Yankovic tonight! Probably the 15th time we've seen him since the late 1990s.

I will send this recommendation. If you think "Why would anyone wee Weird Al" if you get a chance to see him, go to the concert. You won't be upset and probably have a huge smile on your face while leaving. He puts on a great concert.

We don't miss him anytime he comes close to our area. He's in Saginaw tonight at The Arena at the Dow Center.

His band is tight and the show is very energetic and entertaining. I was going to see him Friday but forgot we were going out of town.

I REALLY LIKED the added band to the show. It added a lot of life to the songs that we just aren't accustomed to. I hope this isn't a one-tour thing, but it probably is. That's probably why it's considered "bigger."

I also think the band was the reason why they played Joe Cocker's "The Letter" which I really enjoyed. You have the band, why not do something that they may enjoy playing.

All those new band members and as you said they were very tight. There is a lot that goes into a Weird Al concert that just isn't a thing for other tours (like the little idiotic chant dance thing in the middle of Yoda that they do) and I was watching the new band members to see if they had it memorized and kept up. THEY DID!!!

I've seen Weird Al 10 to 15 times (I know I said 15 times in a recent post but it's probably neither of those numbers but somewhere in between once I tried to count them out) and will never memorize that chant. One day I want to memorize the part that he says "everybody now" so I can actually do the next line. 🙂

Biff, you are a smart man being a Weird Al fan.

I consider myself super lucky that two of my fav artists (Alice Cooper and Weird Al Yankovic) seemingly love touring so much that they aren't going to stop touring until their bodies say they can't do it any more. We pretty much know there's two concerts we will be going to each year when they come to town (or close to town).

Did Weird Al perform his song I Lost On Jeopardy? A takeoff on probably Greg Kihn's 2nd most well-known song, after the Breakup Song.

There is a lot of hints about Jeopardy to his concerts frequently. He has a Jeopardy skit that he runs while doing a clothing change that all the categories are Weird Al song titles and the final category is just Weird Al.  But I don't remember him doing the song even in a tiny clip last night.

My favorite Weird Al song is "The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota", a ball that actually exists.

A few years ago when the Lions played on Christmas Eve (it may have been the day before Christmas Eve) we went to Minneapolis to attend the game. Of course, we got there a day before the game (it was great weather) and we made a trip to the twine ball. They really hype up the Weird Al connection to the twine ball as well.

We saw Billy Idol last year and he rocked.  It was far better than I expected.  He did not go through the motions at all.

Like me with Adam Ant.   He was great.  Tip Top shape.  Didn't hit all the high notes, but I don't think he did in his hey day either.   The energy was 100% there.

But still.  Billy Idol and Martin Kove look like twins to me.

Billy had more hits than I remembered too...  it was right after Ozzie passed and his guitarists have a history with him so they did a nice tribute to him.

I feel like I hear White Wedding and Rebel Yell more on the radio today than I did when they were popular. Whenever I go to the UP (which is way more than it probably should be) it seems the rock stations up there play him a lot. Of course, those two songs probably are heavy rotation and when you are flipping, it's not shocking you'd run into those songs for all the stations I guess.

I'd like to see Billy Idol before his career is completely done. I was a huge fan way back in the day. I didn't keep up with his 2000+ albums. There is one exception to that, I bought his Christmas album a few years ago expecting it to be pretty awesome, putting a little Idol into some songs. Instead, he just sounded like a lounge singer and wasn't impressed. But, that said, that was just a Christmas album.

An article in the Wall St. Journal (paywalled) of all places about it being 50 years since Modern Lovers' self-titled debut album. All tracks had actually been recorded between 1971-1972.  Standout track is Roadrunner. Jonathan Richman is still alive.

Got on a Peter Gabriel kick the other day. Just put it on a Youtube stream of his songs. Of course, I got the popular ones, but I also heard some I've either never heard or rarely heard before. He's got so much stuff I never purchased. I remember way back in the day when you could find about five of his albums in the bargain cassette table for about $4. I always thought about purchasing them, but never did. Maybe I should've got them. But, hey, it's fun to hear them now as basically "new."

Saw him at the 1994 Woodstock as well. Only time I've seen him live.

Although I do like a bunch of his solo stuff, my favourite Peter Gabriel song is still probably the 23 minute Supper's Ready from his Genesis days. A few parts drag, but others hit the heights.

Gabriel is one of my all-time favorite artists. His solo albums are sublime.

I don't know the song. I'm going to listen to it.

I've shared this song before, but it's such a gem. Pony Bradshaw's 10x10 nestles itself somewhere between country, rock, and folk in the "Americana" genre. Forget the genre though, it's just a well written tune about the struggles life throws at us that you should listen to. I threw in the acoustic version too because his voice stripped down sounds so good by itself.
