  1. Past hour
  2. I like his persona on the mound. Just seems like a guy who is always up for the challenge and doesn’t get rattled. The results will be what they are, but he’s got moxie
  3. And I agree with you as regards Colt Keith. I just want you and me to be aware that the thing you are suggesting—continuing to play certain guys regularly even when they struggle—is the exact thing so many posters here criticize when players go through a slump as Colt is.
  4. The winky wink indicates that I was making a kidding. The joke is, people are always clamoring for this guy or that guy to come up from the minors and/or get regular trigger time, but when this guy and that guy flop around some, as all players inevitably do at times, those same people start demanding the head of the PBO for calling this guy and that guy up in the first place, and/or the head of the manager for giving this guy and that guy regular trigger time.
  5. When you have a Pope who can quote Tolkien, there just may be a smidgen of hope for humanity .
  6. And I am pretty sure they were lower than 20% in 2024 with a similar but worse roster.
  7. I feel like they rid themselves of Kenta at the right time. I think they have dug themselves too big of a hole to save this season, but they also aren’t gonna lose 100 games. Not that it really matters. Losing 80 or losing 100 still leaves us watching more football than we would like.
  8. I think the positive part is that the team we root for was the clear probabilistic favorite a month ago so things can obviously change quickly. But I also wouldn’t ignore the possibility of a playoff appearance coming via the wildcard. It’s a substantial part of that 1 in 5 chance. The rest of the AL has been pretty poor relatively speaking. All that said, 1 in 5 is not what anyone would call a good chance, and it sucks to be here already on Memorial Day. Not what anyone signed up for. Release Zack Short.
  9. You seriously don't think Javy, Gleyber, and Carpenter can add any more to the offense than Zack Short, Wenceel Perez, and Hao-Yu Lee? If that's true, then man, that really is fatalist woe-is-me thinking. I also don't think any team would ****-can Jansen for one bad outing after six straight practically flawless appearances. As for Flaherty, that's your most defensible move, although that would leave us having to backfill his innings with more bullpen days and pitching chaos. If that's what you'd prefer, I won't try to argue you out of that one.
  10. Especially since there have been reports of victims naming him
  11. He only had one game like that last year. Other than that, he was very consistent. You may be remembering that game because it was in playoffs in relief.
  12. May 25 https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/may-25?cmpid=email-hist-tdih-2026-0525-05252026&om_rid=&~campaign=hist-tdih-2026-0525
  13. But that's the thing - Colt has potential to be better, Short and McK don't. You have have to take some lumps to bring your talent along - if you sacrifice the long term for the short term all the time, you are not going to have an environment where your young players have a chance unless they happen to just be 'plug and play' like McGonigle (assuming he doesn't eventually run into hard times also). But those guys are one in a million. The way he is being handled right now they have a better chance of recovering their investment in Keith if they sent him back to Toledo to play every inning. I have to wonder if Dingler would ever have gotten the consistent ABs he blossomed under if Jake had been left handed ( or hadn't gotten hurt). There is a ball player alive that won't tell you that the less you play, the harder the game is.
  14. Today
  15. The positive part is that there is only one team in the division playing particularly well. The bad part is that it's not like Cleveland is playing so well they are bound to fall back and be easier to catch. I wouldn't count on a WC coming out of this division either.
  16. I still have concerns I don't see the way out of. On the offensive side, my confidence level that Javy, Gleyber or Carpenter are going to add that much is low.. All three are fast joining the ranks of those those whose name has to be prefaced with 'the oft-injured.' Will any of them be able to stay on the field once back? Not to mention Javy isn't that big an offensive add under any circumstance. And Parker is already only about half a mis-step away from being a 'might have been' The pitching talent is going to be there, but you still have the problem of how you get Jansen and Flaherty off the field. It's not going to do any good to have better young arms able to pitch if the team keeps sending those two guys out there anyway. This management has been pretty bad about cutting bait on its mistakes in a timely fashion (Kenta?). How many games are they going to let those two lose?
  17. It’s pretty wild to me that even as of today the tigers are still about 1 in 5 chance of making the playoffs. A lot can still change in the next two months, and there will be a lot more clarity where all teams stand and who may or may not be able to justify being involved in a Skubal trade (including the tigers).
  18. This is hilarious because Avila didn’t even keep Paredes on the team long enough for Hinch to play him, and when Hinch did play him—which was practically every day he was on the active roster—Paredes couldn’t stay on the field! tranx date year mlb team minor lg team level status transaction description 40-man 2021-09-20 2021 Detroit Tigers MLB MLB Active Recalled from Toledo (AAA) Yes 2021-08-18 2021 Detroit Tigers Toledo AAA Minors Activated from Injured List Yes 2021-08-17 2021 Detroit Tigers Toledo AAA IL-10 Assigned to Toledo [AAA_East] (AAA) for rehab Yes 2021-08-12 2021 Detroit Tigers Lakeland A IL-10 Assigned to Lakeland [A2_SE] (A) for rehab Yes 2021-07-30 2021 Detroit Tigers Toledo AAA IL-10 Assigned to Toledo [AAA_East] (AAA) for rehab Yes 2021-07-22 2021 Detroit Tigers MLB MLB IL-10 IL-10 Right hip strain *Unknown* Yes 2021-07-16 2021 Detroit Tigers MLB MLB Active Recalled from Toledo (AAA) Yes 2021-06-27 2021 Detroit Tigers Toledo AAA Minors Assigned to Toledo [AAA_East] (AAA) Yes 2021-06-19 2021 Detroit Tigers MLB MLB Active Recalled from Toledo (AAA) Yes 2021-06-14 2021 Detroit Tigers Toledo AAA Minors Assigned to Toledo [AAA_East] (AAA) Yes 2021-06-08 2021 Detroit Tigers MLB MLB Active Recalled from Toledo (AAA) Yes 2021-03-25 2021 Detroit Tigers Toledo AAA Minors Assigned to Toledo [AAA_East] (AAA) Yes Oh, how soon we forget …
  19. At least until he gives up 5 runs in one and a third next time he pitches. 😉
  20. That looks right on paper. On the field, Colt is slashing .163/.196/.186 since May 8.
  21. I agree the Dodgers probably think they can already win #3 without Skubal, so if they were to try to trade for him, I don’t think they would feel compelled to give us an excellent return. I would think our best chance at getting a haul would be from whichever team believes they must have Skubal specifically to upend the Dodgers. The Padres strike me as the team most likely to believe that, at least as of today. I could see the Cubs making an offer as of today, too, and they frequently trade from the top of their system. If everyone is in the same situation two months from today, I could see it go like that.
  22. For us to believe we’re going to lose 100 games, we would have to believe we are a bad team no matter who’s playing on it, include Skubal, Melton, Javy, Gleyber, Carpenter, etc.
  23. I suppose it’s possible, although I do have trouble accepting that a guy mentioned, like, 38,000 or something times in the Epstein files wasn’t involved.
  24. Thanks, but I’m probably missing something because this feels like a very different hypothetical. Corbin Burnes had TJ last year during a season where he wasn’t all that impressive after signing a big deal and he’s got an opt out / opt in after this season. I think it’s hard to picture Burnes returning from injury and performing well enough to become an asset comparable to what we expect Skubal to be. But I think the bigger issue is that it seems almost impossible that the tigers could be even remotely close to a buying scenario. That said, if we make all of the assumptions necessary to create a comparable situation and tigers are now true buyers at the end of July and they have the necessary room under the tax, I think I’d absolutely consider including Rainer. It’s hard to think I would be willing to move Clark, but I guess due to needing a lot of assumptions made here, if Parker meadows returned from injury and looks like the guy we thought we might have at the end of 2024, and Burnes is pitching like NL Skubal and the tigers are clear favorites to the win the division, I’d definitely think about it. I think it’s easier to just dream about a few years down the road and consider what you might do when Skenes is a FA to be and hits the trade block.
