Eliminating the NIH? So much for medical research. I've already assumed that if "DOGE" is successful that my job (along with hundreds of thousands of others) would be in jeopardy, and yes eliminating the NIH and most likely all grants would definitely do that. How long it would take would depend on if they're able to cancel active grants, and how long the grants are for. The system is less than perfect, to be sure, and should definitely be evaluated regularly-that's another subject for another thread. This is another example of burning down a whole forest to get rid of a few sick trees though-and I'm about 98% sure that's true of VA healthcare also.2 points

One of my favorite quotes is "if they're going to die they'd better do so and decrease the surplus population." At least some of the original Social Darwinists used their resources to build libraries and schools, because they argued that people needed the tools to be able to compete and get ahead (Carnegie is a good example, and I actually enjoyed his writing). Are there any like that today? Maybe Bill Gates... or is he busy trying to get control of people via chips in vaccines?2 points

Only adjacent to baseball, and I’m only partially watching the Boise State UNLV game and a voice was sort of familiar and of course it turned out to be Jason.2 points

I'm not a fan of soft rock or yacht rock or whatever people want to call it, but I ran across this documentary series in a newsletter, and if you thought the Max doc was fantastic, the guy who puts out the newsletter thinks this is much better: https://www.allyourscreens.com/reviews/2940-review-sometimes-when-we-touch-the-reign-ruin-resurrection-of-soft-rock Mainly because there apparently are some huge revelations, including this one about Toni Tennille: But the most jarring stories come from Toni Tennille, who fronted the massively successful duo The Captain and Tennille with husband Daryl Dragon. While they looked like the perfect couple from the outside, it was far from an idyllic marriage. In her segment, Tennille admits that he never told her that he loved her. "It was hard," she says. "The first few years I kept hoping. Hoping that there would be a breakthrough or something. I always thought Daryl was a genius. He was an odd duck, boy. But he was a genius. Maybe it was some form of autism. I don't know. I never understood it." "I couldn't make him fall in love with me," she continued. "I hoped he would. But as the years went by, I realized that he was not capable of that. And then I was kind of stuck. I just went along with it. I know he admired me tremendously. He admired my talent, my voice, my gift for writing. He was just closed up and he couldn't open up to any kind of emotion." "I was kind of a hot dish in those days," she explained. "But throughout that entire relationship with Daryl, I never, ever cheated on him. I never had an affair. He was the only man that interested me. And even though I couldn't have him the way I wanted him, when I would have dreams, erotic dreams, he was the guy in the dreams. That loveless marriage inspired one of the duo's biggest hits and it's impossible to hear "The Way I Want To Touch You" the same way after knowing the backstory of the tune. "I never wanted to love a man/the way that I want to love you." "It was our second hit and I wanted to express how I felt about Daryl. He was everything to me," she explains. "This was early on, when I still thought I could get through to him. But I was never able to. And I kept thinking. 'Why are you doing this? Why are you still with him?' I kept worrying about all of our fans. So that's why I stuck with him."1 point

The proposals for massive cuts are going to matter a lot in terms of the Congressional math as well.... the House is 220-215, with three vacancies coming because of appointments (Stefanik, Waltz) and resignations (Gaetz) in the short term. People assume Trump can just do whatever he wants, but with those margins, it's really, really tight...1 point

My father’s last year was in a VA home - he received great care. The staff was wonderful…. And it was affordable. Also, only about 15 minutes from me, so I was able to be with him often. I don’t know what/where all the vets that are in these facilities will be able to go if they are shut down. My heart aches just thinking about that1 point

You look at ballpark factors for RHH over at Savant and even though it’s 98 overall, which reads as average, we still rank 22nd among all ballparks. And our RHH home run factor, which is what I assume income- and legacy-seeking sluggers care most about, is 88 which ranks 23rd. So, I agree, tough sell. I’ve been noodling the idea of moving the LF fences in five or ten feet. Left-handed pitchers we desperately want to extend wouldn’t love that, but how would that play to right-handed sluggers?1 point

Ivey fans about to kill me. But I think he should move to the bench and let Beasley start. This isn't a Killian thing, Beasley is arguably the teams second best player after Cade. It also is not a punishment for Ivey. I think he has some issues but has been fine for the most part. This is about Beasley and not about Ivey. They both shoot about the same from three but Beasley makes double the three's that Ivey does. That will help Cade. That will help with the slow starts from the starters. Ivey will get the same amount of minutes he does now, just at different points in the game. Going against other bench players will only help his stats. JB should tailor the end game minutes based on what the team needs. Cade has it going on then leave Beasley out there for the shooting. Cade is being doubled and struggling? Put Ivey in to help a bit with the ball handling. I would also bench Hardaway and probably start Fontecchio. Maybe Thompson if want more defense. Hell, pick a random fan from section 124 if you want.1 point

always fun to go into a season with 3 of 4 IFs having no track record and the 4th having one you'd rather he didn't.1 point
