  1. I don't know if this was mentioned previously. He hit the ball hard, but he also was the beneficiary of a drawn in infield. I think if the infield is at normal depth, that's likely a double play. But, hey, he did hit it hard, and that's about all you can ask for.
  2. He still trails Shane Halter in career WAR.
  3. Attention whore gonna attention whore.
  4. I think there’s a bit of a mental aspect for fans, and maybe for the players and coaches, for how a 2 of 3 non sweep occurs. I’d say a number of fans are probably a bit more disappointed when their team goes WWL as opposed to WLW or LWW. It’s still the same 2 of 3, the order shouldn’t matter as much from purely Ws and Ls standpoint. But you bring up a good point about teams you should beat. For all intents and purposes, the Tigers did that. And let’s also not forget that historically the Tigers don’t do well out in Anaheim. So a bit of a small victory on that front, too.
  5. Can we all agree to go with Dicque to avoid the asterisks from now on?
  6. His last several seasons are debatable.
  7. 2 out of 3 from here on out gets them to 88-74 and likely into the playoffs. Easier said than done, but that’s the situation they’re in.
  8. You know, you kind’of look familiar.
  9. I know you are, but what am I?
  10. I thought about the pullover vs button up last night. I think the pullover looks better, but it wouldn’t work for some jerseys. A perfect example would be the Tiger home with the dual piping in the front. That would look absurd on a pullover. The Angels should bring back their early on in existence hats with the halos on the top. Somewhat kitschy, but it works for them.
  11. While I don't see trading Skubal right now as likely, I can understand the move if the acquired personnel is a good fit given the SP depth and the rationale of addressing a weakness with a strength.
  12. Ah,…. NBC’s game of the week. I remember fishing on Lake Erie and we somehow had the TV broadcast via radio of the Cardinals and Dodgers. Vince Coleman doubled on a bunt that the Dodgers waited on to roll foul. Per the description (Vin Scully and Joe Garogiola?), Coleman simply never stopped, rounded first as if it were a hit to the outfield and caught everybody of guard. Might have been nobody covering 2B, too. Anyway at that point I was mad about being on the lake and not watching this game because I missed this play. But no doubt it had to have been on This Week In Baseball as a highlight the next week, right?
  13. I would think the trade market at large becomes a factor as well. If it’s teetering towards sell and the sellers are moving players, does that increase the Tigers’ desire to move players and not be left holding expiring contracts in a sinking situation? I’m not as sold on having a certain record or a certain minimum distance behind a playoff spot by the deadline is going to cut it. They might have to make decisions earlier than the deadline. I think I understand what you’re saying about the division. The division involves fewer teams to climb over and more questions for those teams than maybe in the wildcard despite the “closer” games behind in the wildcard.
  14. Avila's fault.
  15. Man, this kid has to be on cloud nine. Opening Day roster, contract extension, all star in his hometown complete with a rousing cheer from his hometown during the introductions, meets his idol. Soak it in, Kevin.
