  1. Let’s see what position Clemens plays in Toledo. If he’s playing a lot of 3B, it might make a little more sense.
  2. I would say there’s merit, but it’s based on past seasons. I don’t know how much that should factor in or when the current season surpasses the resume. Maybe they’re just getting to the all start break at this point, I don’t know.
  3. I don’t understand this angle either. Outside of the principle parties, it’s an unknown issue at this time. But people like to make assumptions, so here we are.
  4. I agree with you about Pineda. Now, he did arrive with durability concerns, but the injury he sustained was a line drive off of the bat that he couldn’t get his hand out of the way of. That was kind of a flukey deal. His FIP is a little high, he allows too many HRs and doesn’t strike out many, but I don’t think he’s been disappointing considering what the expectations were. Coolbaugh and the bats shoulder a good deal of blame for this season’s malaise.
  5. Might as well win today, eh?
  6. Yeah, this makes you wonder, doesn’t it? Wasn’t it just last week we were talking about Gibson and Higginson being chosen over Thames in 2005?
  7. It sure didn’t take long.
  8. Of course, it’s baseball. That’s not how it works for any random game. How are the Tigers 7-2 vs Cleveland this season?
  9. I’d disagree with you on the opportunity cost involved with the salary if the Tigers are on the hook for it going forward. And you could throw in the time wasted chasing him instead of another SP this past off-season (although to be honest, I forget who else was out there, and I liked the premise of going after Rodriguez). This story is kind of on the back burner for me. I don’t think anyone knows exactly what’s going on. The lack of communication is frustrating to hear and it sounds like the Tigers are pretty exasperated by the deal. Whatever the case, he’s not available. This situation feeds into the revolving door of SPs, but that has kind of sustained some measure of competitiveness. The offense has been abysmal. So, it’s easy to focus frustration on the offense. But as others have called out, what happens to the young arms that have been admirably filling in so far? What will be left to pitch in the second half of the season?
  10. I had Achilles tendinitis around this time last year in my left leg. It sucked. I’m no athlete, but I like to bicycle a few times a week, maybe getting 30-50 miles a week depending on what’s going on. I had to give that up for about a month. Rest it, ice it, raise it every once in a while, do some light stretching with an exercise band. This was one foot. I can see a pro athlete pushing it too quickly and exacerbating the issue, especially with it in both legs. Granted he’s probably getting better care and rehab than some hack like me. But this was also in both legs, and he needs both to do his job every day which is quite a bit more than biking a few times a week.
  11. Jim Eisenreich retired for a few years at the beginning of his MLB career due to Tourette’s.
  12. The first hit was such a struggle. But he seems to have found his footing a bit since then.
  13. We were in Niagara Falls, ON over the weekend. There were issues with debit/credit cards and/or point of sales machines that day in Canada. Fortunately we weren’t affected, but it just brings to mind one of the possible low percentage of happening yet highly painful risks of traveling.
  14. There may be some rust to work off when he gets back, but he’s a 122 OPS+ over his career to date. This includes that shortened 2020 and powerless 2022. He’s only 27 years old. If his resume isn’t a fluke, if he can return back to health, 120 to finish up the final two seasons of control should be the minimum expectation.
  15. Gregory Soto is the non legend all star for the Tigers. I would suggest Andrew Chafin and Joe Jimenez have had better seasons than Soto. Heck, Michael Fulmer and Alex Lange are arguably better numerically than Soto.
  16. We need them because we are too far from each other for bro hugs.
  17. I didn’t watch it, so no idea how Hutchison looked. But I’d bet they’re just trying to squeeze every inning possible out of every pitcher just to get through to the break. I think the move for Soto was questionable. Fulmer gets the first two, it should’ve been a clean inning save for the error. Walk Abreu? Ok, he’s a demon bs Detroit. While neither Fulmer or Soto are lights out, I think you keep going with the guy that pitched 3 outs on 12 pitches, lefty/righty hitter be damned.
  18. I think it was mentioned that Grossman was signed in part because of Hinch’s recommendation. And while we’re dealing with the here and now, it’s easy to forget what kind of season he turned in last year. So I doubt there’s going to be a DFA unless Carpenter keeps up his torrid 2022 and/or Baddoo gets on that kind of streak. Allegedly the Yankees were interested in him not too long ago. Now there are rumors about Benintendi being the apple of their eye. So, teams are probably willing to wait out Detroit DFAing Grossman or moving on to someone else. As far as 1B, Cabrera clearly ain’t going out there. Schoop hasn’t been over there this year (and really, with good reason). It appears to be CastroH and Clemens for now. And as ridiculous as this is to say with the CastroW experiment in the OF, I’m not sure moving Grossman to 1B in the middle of a season makes sense. It’s questionable with CastroW, but in that case, he could be here beyond next season (don’t kill the messenger), and there were few other options when the experiment started. They could put him over there and try, but they have to live with the growing pains while maybe not getting any of the possible gains out of Grossman.
  19. Yes, blame can be put on Grossman’s defense and/or the inability to pitch out of things in the 8th in the micro, but the lack of offense hangs over once again.
  20. Wow. Go out and get some sun.
  21. Comparing a 22 year old Torkelson to Hessman’s career seems just a bit of a stretch.
  22. Seems strange to be happy about a loss, but, hey, whatever floats your boat.
  23. That’s a deep batting stance. Dare I say it’s a batting crouch?
  24. I’m not buying that ticket.
