  1. I was wondering about this earlier. Are Hill & Cunningham of similar athleticism, but the background of the eras that they play in kind of make that not as apparent? I think it’s agreeable that Cunningham’s era is more athletic than Hill’s. So, take any athletic player from Hill’s era, plop them into now, and they are less athletic looking? Similarly, take a player from today, flux capacitor them to yesteryear, and they look more athletic?
  2. Its in there. Not only is it silent, but its also invisible.
  3. My completely unqualified opinion (heck, it might be an unqualified guess) is that SPs are going to have a steeper drop off, in addition to the reduced stamina, a bit longer into this season as opposed to next season. Managers and the coaching staff are probably going to have a more difficult time at discerning when to get the bullpen and when to make the change before the opponent has things going. This is probably something that was mentioned around here before, I don't know. I wasn't following this one when Boston had their tea party, so I don't know if that's exactly what happened here or not. I know bad defense factored in. And then also working specifically against the Tigers is the lack of quality arms that they thought would be at their disposal. They've had to put Alexander in the rotation, and then they've lost Cisnero, Chafin, and Funkhouser to injury. I'm not all that sold on Cisnero especially Funkhouser repeating the standard stat success that they had last season. But there is still the ramification of losing your set up RPs and your best multi inning RP. This can easily tempt Hinch & Co to try to squeeze another hitter or inning out of the current P.
  4. I guess I'm not as worried about some of the individual accolades. Cunningham is a star in the making, no question. The future is bright for both him and the team. I'll take that and be happy with it.
  5. Well played by all involved.
  6. Let's be honest. The name Casimir is a helluva lot sexier than Kutter.
  7. I don't know. If Grossman does end up on the IL, that leaves only 3 true OFs on the big league roster (Meadows, Baddoo, Reyes). CastroH has spent time out there, but he's also the only bench IF. Clemens doesn't have much experience outside of 2B. And a quick check of Clemens' fielding history shows less than 200 IP in the OF. The other options are Cameron, Short, and CastroW, if they stick to the 40 (or Hill if he's recovered). It seems like it would be Cameron, but it sounded like the organization was a little exasperated with him before he was sent down.
  8. I'll be honest, I thought he was going to lose when he got to a 3 ball count against Verdugo right after the MartinezJD HR. Didn't he go 3-0 before getting to a full count?
  9. That's good.
  10. Now steal 3B!
  11. That's because your eyesight was better then.
  12. He pitched well yesterday, no doubt. I'm still on the side of doubtful of Manning, but I'm willing to be proven wrong.
  13. His swing is incredibly violent at times. Like most times.
  14. And they wonder why they have issues with growing the game.
  15. I don't know if I am buying that theory, however, it also wouldn't be surprising for MLB to engage in this.
  16. Don't take this for gospel, but it looks like a "true" DH. My guess is that is because there is no time attached to it. Contrast that game 2 and no time stuck to it with the Twins' DH a few weeks later. There are times noted for both games.
  17. Nice work, everyone.
  18. They’re pitching to him like he’s Brandon Inge.
  19. I think given how the game had been playing out, they weren’t in position to rely on hitting to get them back into it. The bats were less than impressive and they were going to need to take advantage of opportunities that presented themselves. This was one of them. If you haven’t had a chance to see a replay yet, the ball skipped off to the RHH side of the home plate dirt (outside of the dirt). It took a good play to get Baez out. There certainly was risk in Baez trying to score, obviously so considering he was thrown out. But considering part of that calculus was a RP running to the plate, catching the ball, and applying the tag without wiggle room, I have no problem with it. Sometimes you force the other team to make a play. They did. Tip your hat to them.
  20. The carpool after the game better be going straight to the practice fields. No Dairy Queen today.
  21. Detroit Pistons (23-58) vs Philadelphia 76ers (50-31)
  22. Just to put some perspective on that, I just eyeballed NBA 30 & over season averages on basketball reference. There have been 73 season averages of 30 & over, and 36 of those were before 1982. David Robinson averaged 29.79 in ‘93-‘94, Shaquille O’Neal 29.67 in ‘99-‘00.
  23. Is this when he tried to score off of the passed ball during Cabrera’s plate appearance? I have zero problem with it. It required a good throw, perfect catch, and perfect tag to nip him in time. The play was in front of Baez, he could see it, and he’s shown to be a smart enough base runner to make that decision.
  24. Torkelson doesn’t know how to slide?
