If Pence and even Mitt and company were serious they should quit the Republican Party in its current state and declare themselves Independents. Especially after today’s grace from Rona and company

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
CMRivdogs replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
I was basing my proposal based on 20 or so years in a card/dice/computer league. In a 12 team league with 4 playoff teams. (APBA) You would find yourself with a couple of owners who would go thru the tank and thrive mode every couple of years while owners who played well enough to finish in the middle of the pack found themselves stuck there forever. I realize MLB is a completely animal from fantasy baseball. If we're experimenting with the current status quo....- 1,851 replies

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
CMRivdogs replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
I would almost prefer to see a reverse type draft of bottom teams. Reward teams that try to be competitive but fall short. Playoff teams would then draft in the usual fashion.- 1,851 replies

Not to mention at least two years spent on land reclamation (not sure if that's the correct phrase). There was a lot of fill work going on there. Not to mention whatever toxic chemicals were around from tearing down the neighborhood, the refinery, etc. (My son spent a lot of time on the sight as the company he worked for was charged with overseeing the cleanup. Making sure met federal standards)

Just take a look at the timeline on the Gordie Howe Bridge https://www.gordiehoweinternationalbridge.com/en/project-overview

I think Gorsuch switched to Anglican when he married.

There's a reason why some of us call it Golden Trough https://www.today.com/food/news/golden-corral-fight-rcna14500?utm_campaign=mb&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_source=morning_brew

I still see him as a project. But interesting for the second round if he's still on the board

Virginia's independent commission ended up going to the courts to draw the line after they were deadlocked. I It's a decent map, fairly even split with a couple of swing districts. The whole process just seems a bit swarmy

i've spent the last three weeks watching Mid Atlantic storm systems and following a couple of companies who do forecasting on FB. Their biggest frustrations have been the way the various models have differed even 3 or 4 days out. You really can't get a good read until maybe 48 hours out or less.

I'd favor independent redistricting, but considering the fiascos in Virginia and Michigan when they tried this. There is got to be a way to set it up without getting politicians involved.
-
I like the idea, especially if it makes the House more proportional. There is no reason a voter in South Dakota, Wyoming, or Alaska have more power than one in larger states.
-
Politicians want everyone to be able to vote, however they really don't want everyone to vote. The fear is the "uninformed" voter casting a ballot. Hence the quote "I love the uneducated"

I've been wading thru a book written by James Michener about how close we came to a Constitutional Crisis in 1968. There was fear that Wallace would garner enough EC votes to throw the election to the House. Each party feared the other party would make a deal with the Wallace electors to gain enough votes to win the election. He was a elector in 1968, no qualifications, just a party hack as he put it. There was a big snowstorm in Eastern Pennsylvania the day the electors were to meet to cast votes. They were pulling guys off the street in order to cast the vote.

I'm actually trying to remember when my vote for president actually mattered. Virginia was solid red from 1972-1988. Illinois 1992-2000, it was always given a Democrat would win. I guess my time in Michigan gave some intrigue to the national elections 2004,2016 This may not hold for local and state elections. The whole EC thing failed when they started allowing commoners to. vote while keeping the veneer of "smart electors" deciding the executive position. One man, one vote has been a farce for 200 plus years

Oasis definition something that provides refuge, relief, or pleasant contrast

Don’t forget women didn’t count at all and only white guys who owned land were able to vote. In other words the fabled founding fathers were in effect oligarchs.

Sorry, Had to rub it in a bit. After watching three weekends of snowmageddon only to see about three inches of the stuff that was easily taken care of by solar snow removal. (The mess a few weeks ago doesn't count, we were too far south and in a bit of a snow/rain hole. I blame the I-95 fiasco on idiot truck drivers who always tend to drive to fast through that corridor. Hang in there, stay safe..

I spent a couple years loading cabs/sedans at DTW. Some of the hardest working and nicest guys once you get to know them. The only incident I ever had with them regarding their religion was the one time I told a couple of them that when it came to control over driver activities during my shift I was god (little g). One went a bit ballistic (there is no God but God). Thinking back I'd probably get the same reaction from a Baptist.

Part of my wife's job when we moved to Detroit was the Tiger's broadcast (also Red Wings and Lions). Essentially she was Ernie's last boss. When she had her first meeting with Phil Garner and his wife. She told him I grew up as a Pirate fan, our son was born the Summer after the 1979 World Series. He's our only child. The Pirates haven't been back since. Phil was a bit embarrassed, his wife was quite amused.

But we can't afford the apartment we had in the late 90's. 48th floor catty corner from Holy Name, Lake view (now gone due to new construction). Shortly before we left I found that Paul Konerko lived there right after he was traded to the Sox. A doorman told me a couple other ball players lived there briefly during the season.
