  1. 4-3 White Sox so far, but 6 games coming up the first two weekends of September.
  2. That's probably somewhere on the Internet, but because I don't know where here is this for now, the standings and differentials at the All Star break. Then the same for right now, this afternoon. The Tigers were -86 at the break and are now at -98, for a -12. The Yankees are -46 since the break.
  3. Tigers are 10-8 in August, a game over .500 since the All Star Break, and since ending their 9-game losing streak on June 10 the only winning or losing streaks more than two games have been one 3-game losing streak and one 4-game winning streak. If not for the fact they've scored the 2nd fewest runs in MLB ahead of only Oakland, the 2023 Tigers seem about as unremarkable as can be.
  4. Pirates break up Dallas Keuchel’s perfect game bid with one out in the 7th.
  5. I saw The Who, or whatever they were referring to themselves as, around 5 years ago and it was quite good. Maybe it was “Daltrey & Townsend of The Who”. They made it clear everyone else on stage was not to be considered part of their band, ok for them to contribute sound but had to stay far, far away from Roger and Pete.
  6. Bottom of the 9th was blissfully anti-climactic!
  7. Reaches base all four times today, with a double, a single and two walks. OPS now up to .749.
  8. Tigers content, kinduv, in today’s Times of London.
  9. I’ve been looking at these lineups and have never figured out: is there a reason there is an arrow beside a different player’s name each game?
  10. I agree. They could have kept the name, made this guy the new mascot.
  11. Legend. https://x.com/buffalosabres/status/1692364113911906716?s=61&t=don8lQTnTq5FKXq14p2GMw
  12. No pennant race for the Tigers this season, so let’s take a look of a couple of clips - in color! - of the pennant winners from 83 summers ago. https://x.com/flagstafffilms/status/1690776608364187648?s=61&t=don8lQTnTq5FKXq14p2GMw https://x.com/flagstafffilms/status/1690776608364187648?s=61&t=don8lQTnTq5FKXq14p2GMw
  13. This song popped on to my TikTok feed. Not sure I've heard it once the past 40 years. But boy does it ever blast me right back to 1980.
  14. I grew up about 60-75 minutes from Tiger Stadium depending on bridge and rush hour traffic, so a perfect summer night when 17 would be to listen to the first two innings of game 1 at home while eating a pre-game meal, have Ernie & Paul's broadcast of innings 3-7 accompany me on my drive, get into my seats for the 8th and 9th innings of Game 1, head to the concessions between games, then relax and enjoy game 2 in full.
  15. Isn’t that a traditional doubleheader? With a day:night being something like 1pm and 7pm starts for the two games?
  16. Edit: now on pace for 28 HRs, 89 RBIs, current OPS of .740 is his season high.
  17. I’m hoping it holds through 2035. His age 35+ years are probably too much to hope for.
  18. Well, that was an exciting bottom of the 9th.
  19. Yep, on pace for 27 homers and 88 RBIs. Pretty sure his current OPS of .734 is his season high. Even if he ends up with say, 25 homers and 80 RBIs, I’d have gladly take it at beginning of the year as a big step forward.
  20. Check out the lyrics to Seger’s Louise. https://genius.com/Bob-seger-louise-lyrics A sports case from the ‘80s, better known in Canada than the U.S., was Doug Gilmour. When he was playing for the St Louis Blues, he and his wife hired a 13 yr old babysitter to watch their young daughter. The mother of the babysitter found a diary in which the babysitter made several entries about having sex with Gilmour. When her mother confronted her, the babysitter “admitted” that she had a frequent sexual relationship with Gilmour. Truth? Fantasy? Legal case was brought and moved forward before being dropped for insufficient evidence. Gilmour was promptly traded and went on to a storied career with Calgary and Toronto and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.
  21. A pretty meh move. Like Drown said, it would have been bigger news a few years ago. But gave up little and paying him little after retention, so fine.
  22. Anna K turned 16 the day the Wings won the Cup in '97. Fedorov was 27.
  23. Good riddance, if the Wings had scored in overtime instead the Wings and Leafs would both have 12 Cups each. Broken leg? Pfft, probably a bruised ankle. Overblown like Curt Schilling's bloody sock, lol. https://torontosun.com/sports/hockey/nhl/toronto-maple-leafs/bobby-boomer-baun-maple-leaf-cup-overtime-hero-dead-at-86
  24. Double play to end it. Big day for Manning, Carpenter and Torkelson. 6.5 games back.
