  1. 99% sure it was. Sure felt like it. Because the crowd started chanting "We Want The Bird" and everyone was undecided whether to head to exits or stick around, we weren't sure if anything was going to happen. Curtain calls weren't really a thing back then. I remember Reggie's after his 3rd home run the next year in the '77 Series, but can you think of any before then?
  2. I agree …. until Goff breaks his leg next week.
  3. I’ve told this story before, but the MNF Fidrych game was truly one of the most memorable days of my childhood. Last day of school, 3rd grade or Grade 3, had been the Friday before. I was turning 9 in two days so we held my birthday party in the lower deck in left with Family Night tickets. My parents, a couple of uncles, a few of my friends. I was a baseball nut/nerd then so knew all about Fidrych’s progression over the past two months and so was excited that he was the starter. But having been to weeknight games several times in the past, we were expecting a crowd of 20,000 or so. When we got there and saw our normal parking lots full and then the throngs walking over the pedestrian covered overpasses we were stunned. But boy did that ratchet up the excitement. For a few minutes we were worried that the game was sold out, as that was the rumour, but managed to buy tickets. I remember almost everything about that night. Especially the curtain call. Went to many other Fidrych starts in 1976 and 1977, I wish more radio or TV broadcasts of his starts were available.
  4. I need clarity on CJ's status before I lock in my Lions record prediction for the season. I've been flip flopping between 14-3 one day and 7-10 the next.
  5. For second game in a row the Twins tie it in the 9th and win it in extras. Although today they had first blown a 9th inning lead. Suddenly they are on pace for 87 wins.
  6. The Leafs should trade Nylander for picks and prospects. Whatever they can get, even if not comparable value, as his salary comes right off the cap and they can re-allocate it towards defense. Doesn’t have to be Karlsson.
  7. Texted something similar to a friend earlier today:”Greene-Tork-Carp showing good results now. 3 decent bats that should get batter. Rogers ok as a catcher. Pitching coming together. But still leaves around 4 sub-par position players.” I would probably include Vierling as decent. Really don’t know about McKinstry or Baddoo yet.
  8. Twins and Guardians both trailing by 3 in their final at-bat but both have tying run at the plate with no outs. In the Twins’ case, the hitter is …Willi Castro.
  9. I have tickets to Oppenheimer for 6pm PT, 9 ET. Was afraid of having to enter the theatre during a tight Tigers game. Needn’t have worried.
  10. 8 games under .500 and 5 games out of first, with 66 games to go. I understand that the roster might be weaker after the deadline, and I'm fine with that. But I think the roster as of today, healthy, is better than a .450 team. So at least for the next few weeks I'm invested in game outcomes because I can see them both moving towards the .500 mark and chipping away at that divisional deficit.
  11. I have Boston, Toronto and Carolina as shoo-ins to make the playoffs. There is no other team I would be shocked to see miss in the East.
  12. Better, but I still don’t see a need for the strike zone box. Just one more thing to distract my eyes. Majority of pitches are either obvious balls, obvious strikes, are hit or are swung at. Just use after the pitch on the replays of borderline calls.
  13. Every reason to think Tork is on track to hit a Series-clinching homer for the Tigers by 2027.
  14. Pirates just scored a run! Cleveland beat them 11-0 last night and leading them 8-1 tonight in 6th.
  15. You mean it's a Jersey thundercrack!?
  16. Wait, how did I not know until today that Andy Kim is Canadian ...and still alive (that's not him in the YouTube still shot).
  17. I mostly agree with you and winning it all in 2006 or 2013 would have capped truly championship-calibre seasons. 2012 didn’t have quite the same feel but I was still into it. This year would be undeserved but I’d still take it without apology because I have this nagging unfinished business from 2006-2014 plus I want to scratch that 39 year itch. Hell, I’d even use the injustice of not having home field advantage in 1987 to rationalize feeling good about winning ugly this year.
  18. I’m glad you guys have such vivid memories of that game. I was 15 and missed it because I had better things to do - watching the submarine races under the Bluewater Bridge with my the captain of my high school’s cheerleading team and her older sister who was home from college for the weekend.
  19. A performance of which Todd Jones would be proud.
  20. Ford’s home run “trot” looked like one of those old b&w highlight reels from the ‘30s at jerky high speed.
  21. Sure, I think it was interesting and glad you posted it. I, and I think others, was simply giving reasons why it should be discounted a bit as probably not as positive as it would seem at first glance. I don’t want to discourage anyone from finding and posting tidbits like that though.
