Each of the Tigers-Guardians games Tuesday-Thursday are set for 1:08pm ET. If the Tigers advance they would play in Seattle next Saturday and Sunday, at Comerica on Tuesday Oct 7 and if necessary Wednesday October 8. The ALDS Game 5 would be on Friday October 10 in Seattle.
Either the Chiefs are de-valuing the Lions’ win over the Ravens or else the Lions broke the Ravens for the next week like they did to quite a few teams last year.
Yep, making the playoffs is at least treading water and something to build on. The “collapse” loses a bit of significance because of that and will be all but forgotten if the Tigers win a round or two.
Tigers had the best record in the American League and 3rd best record in MLB and a 9.5 game division lead with 16 games to go. Turns out that 7-9 would have got them a bye and 5-11 would have won the division. Instead they went 3-13. Finish with the 6th best record in the American League and tied for 11th best record in MLB.
What this does mean is that if the Tigers go on the road and beat Cleveland in the WC round (very doable, IM0, at least 50/50) they would play the Jays in the ALDS starting next weekend. That would be fun.
It’s a hard pill for me to swallow when Tork talked yesterday about how many beers he was drinking last night yet. Dingler or Torres or Greene or Tork would have been so exhausted by an 8th or 9th inning at bat that tomorrow’s off day wouldn’t be enough to recover? I’m actually ticked off.
I feel a bit insulted that Torres, Greene, Tork and Dingler are all sitting on the bench when 2 runs could give us the division race that fans have invested in for 162 games.
I’m all for resting the pitching staff. But when the division is in play with the Tigers and Guardians both in 1-run games, could we please get Greene, Tork and Dingler into the game now.
As a kid I wore out The Year of the Tiger '68 LP. At the 5:57 mark Ray calls Kaline's 307th homer which passed Hank Greenberg as the all-time Tigers' HR leader and at the 22:37 mark Ray calls a Gates Brown extra inning walkoff homer.
