So we've reached the February break, at roughly the 2/3 mark of the season. Tampa at 5 points up on the Wings and the Leafs at 7 points up on the Wings are not completely out of reach if the Wings stay hot, but I'd say catching either is highly unlikely. Nor does it really matter, IMO - 3rd place in the Atlantic to face a 2nd place team isn't going to be much tougher than facing a division winner from a wildcard spot. At the other end, Montreal and Pittsburgh and Philly are all 6 points back of Detroit and the Wings have a game or games in hand on all 3. So let's dismiss them for now, unless one of them rises up after the break and shows otherwise. That leaves, to simplify matters, 6 teams for 2 spots. No reason the Wings can't make the playoffs. They're as good as any of those teams and of the other 5 I can see only the Rangers possibly going on a tear. The Bruins have been poor this year.

Hell I’d take a 6th rounder or a bag of pucks if it could be done without retention.

I'm not really up on advanced stats in hockey. Broadly speaking, what does "average game score" try to measure and how is it calculated? Seen as a reliable measure?

Not with JT Miller gone. At least not until the summer if they decided to move him out and replace him with a free agent.

The Lions schedule would be so much better if the non-division home games were flipped with the non-division road games. I’d rather be facing the Cowboys, Bucs, Browns, Giants and Steelers on the road as I’d still favor the Lions in all of those, and face the Ravens, Eagles, Chiefs, and Commanders a5 home.

I think there is too much interest in Cozens for the Sabres to give him up for anything less than a 1st. I’d give up next year’s 1st, sure, as shouldn’t be any higher than 15th or so overall. Still a bit of risk attached to giving up this year’s 1st, so no to that. And yeah, throw in Berggren, Veleno, whatever, they’re pretty much dime a dozen. But I think someone else will beat that and I don’t expect the Wings to outbid them.

Thank God the Wings got lottery luck by losing it in 2020 to fall to 4th. Almost certainly would have picked consensus #1 Lafreniere, who wouldn’t even go top 5 in a re-draft. Stutzle and Raymond, in whichever order, are the top two of that draft.
