  1. 28 straight successful penalty kills by Edmonton is amazing. That’s almost a full game’s worth of shutout penalty killing.
  2. Fingernail and toenail biting time for Oilers fans. Lead just cut in half with 7 minutes to go, 2-1. Dallas outshooting Edmonton 31-10 although the play hasn’t seemed that lopsided.
  3. Splits with Boston.
  4. We all know who Bettman is pulling for tonight.
  5. His drafts in Edmonton have been subpar too.
  6. Kenny has made some decent pickups. Hyman, Kane, Eckholm, Henrique. The Oilers have made the conference finals three times in past 30 years - two of them have been in past three years under Kenny.
  7. Two series, both tied 2-2. I think all four remaining teams have a shot at the Cup. I'd rank Dallas-Rangers-Florida pretty close to even with each other, with Edmonton just a notch below.
  8. Same people who voted MotorCitySonics as Mr. Congeniality of this site.
  9. The team in the lead after 7 innings in the first game of a doubleheader should be able to declare at that time whether they would like to bank runs for game 2, at effectively 50 cents on the dollar. In the Tigers' case today, with an 8-0 lead, they would have been comfortable knocking 4 runs off their tally (re-setting the game to 4-0 after 7) because that lead would still be safe enough for the game 1 win yet they'd now start game 2 up 2-0. If they really wanted to gamble and had enough confidence in their bullpen, they could have shaved off 6 runs, leaving them with a 2-run game 1 lead through 7 and a 3-run game 2 lead to start that game. Or for either team, starting in the 8th inning of game 1 you should get to choose whether any run you score in the 8th or 9th is applied to game 1 or applied to game 2.
  10. Torkelson flailing on three straight pitches.
  11. Hey, the Pirates announcers had the same thought a second later.
  12. I turned on the TV and was wondering why I couldn’t see one fan in the home plate area, just the camera person. I was afraid Covid had come back.
  13. Growing up in the '70s and subscribing to Sports Illustrated as well having back issues handed down to me from my uncles, seemed like Walton was always on the cover. I looked it up and here are 14 covers in an under 8-year span. https://www.si.com/nba/2009/01/16/16bill-waltons-si-covers
  14. More good hockey. Rangers beat Panthers in OT for second straight time, lead series 2-1.
  15. One game shy of the 1/3 mark of the season, the Tigers are one game under .500 at 26-27, with an even run differential. 13-14 at home and 13-13 on the road. 5-5 in past 10. That's as middle of the road as can be, and pretty much what was expected of them. It's the Cleveland and KC starts that has disrupted the outlook though.
  16. Walked it off before the stroke of noon (my time).
  17. And here is the call on the Spanish language feed
  18. What a start time. Are the Tigers playing at Wembley or something?
  19. Impressive win for Edmonton. Killed off a 4-minute minor without too much trouble to start OT, then clearly were the better team the rest of the way before McDavid wins it the first minute of 2OT.
  20. I can't believe Seguin is only 32. And even Jamie Benn is only 34 -he is a guy from a different era, when you could win a points title with just 87 points.
  21. Geesh. It’s 2024. Didn’t guys like Konstantinov, Holmstrom, Peter Forsberg, Kronwall, Tikkanen, Ulf Samuelson etc smash that Euro stereotype decades ago?
  22. The Oilers have been playing surprisingly good defense. If they had a good goalie their roster would be as good as any in the league, IMO.
