Cherry's firing and Ron Maclean's meekishness during that week is seen by many as a symbol of the Trudeau era. That said, Cherry had long overstayed, he should have retired or been put out to pasture during an offseason a good 10-15 years earlier than he was (he was 85 when he was let go, 91 now and doing podcasts with his son but a shadow of himself given his age and failing voice/energy). His schtick was predictable and got boring, especially after hearing basically the same thing for 20 years. So it's been pointed out from time to time how the Tigers a) have a good record against teams >.500 and b) have played a lot of games against teams >.500. For a) 23 wins ties with Houston for 1st in MLB and 23-18 is 3rd behind Mets' 18-10 and Yankees' 21-15 for best record. For b) 41 games is 2nd in MLB behind Houston's 44. But then I noticed how LA Dodgers' record against teams with records >.500 is only 12-9. Only 21 games, how could that be? Because I know they swept the Tigers to open the season, beat Cleveland 2 of 3 this week and beat the Yankees twice so far this weekend. So I looked it up, figuring it had to be a misprint. But get this. Between April 14 and May 21, the Dodgers played 30 of 32 games against teams under .500 By the way, 13 of the Tigers' next 16 games are against teams under .500, the only exception being 3 at home to the Cubs next weekend.

Which means playing merely .500 (51-51) the rest of the way would get them to win 90-72. That would have to be their floor I think, barring a major injury to Skubal and/or Greene. Simply win 90 and I’d say they’re 98% a playoff team and 70% they’re a division winner. But my goal is for the Tigers to be one of the top two division winners so they can bypass the wildcard round.

Around 10 years ago a French singer named Alizee was the talk of MTS for her performance of her song J’en Ai Marre, which I believe translates to I Love Tigers Fans. Her other big hit was Moi Lolita. This week, in a concert in Paris, Dua Lipa paid tribute to Alizee by singing the latter song on the 25th year anniversary of its release.

I remember earlier in the month Curtis Granderson, in an interview in which he was overall flattering towards the Tigers, said that in the coming weeks the Tigers “would finally be tested” - Texas, Boston, St. Louis, Toronto etc. I thought the Tigers had already had a normal enough schedule to date. But if we just look at the time since Granderson’s remarks, the Tigers have gone 13-7 versus Texas, Boston, Toronto, St. Louis, Cleveland, San Francisco, and KC. The last 14 of those have all been against teams over .500 and the Tigers have gone 9-5.
