  1. Oh look, more shenanigans from the GOP - in Georgia. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/video-election-deniers-georgia_n_63173eb7e4b0eac9f4d034df
  2. Whenever I hear Ernie Harwell I think of 2 things........My red bike with the purple banana seat. And the time that all the family came out to our house to a gathering. My dad had 9 brothers and sisters and 6 of them lived closed by. Dozes of Cousins..............we had a pool. My dad's father was still alive at the time. He was Serbian and he was a very soft spoken and unassuming man (10 kids'll do that to you). We couldn't find Pa. Nobody knew where he was. He wasn't senile or anything like that. Finally, we found him sitting in a car down the street listening to Ernie. It was a hot day too. He didn't want to bother anyone by asking to put it on in the house "the kids want to hear their music". We had a radio and he wound up sitting in the garage listening. He never went to a game and almost never watched them on TV, he just loved listening to Ernie.
  3. This story in Saskatchewan is horrifying. 10 people stabbed to death, several others injured. One of the brothers found dead (probably killed by the other). What the hell happens that TWO people totally go insane like this? They were probably on Meth. I know rural Sask is just like rural America with Meth all over the place. Meth can make people psychotic..........but 2 at the same time? I am only saying that because they were both in a drug program and a couple of the victims may have been counselling them.
  4. LOL. We had that in Sterling Heights. House was built in 1969ish. It was a one-level house and it's not like it was huge, anyone's voice could easily carry through it. But my sister and I would annoy the hell out of my dad. Every time he'd use it (and it was never anything serious), while he was talking we'd always hit the mic button wherever we were and it would be nothing but feedback and you'd hear my dad yell out "ALRIGHT, THAT'S ENOUGH" Had a radio built in and on the weekends if my mom was out my dad would put Ernie Harwell on throughout the house.
  5. In 1968 Ray Oyler played all the way until September 22nd.......................his last hit came July 13th. He went 0 for 36 the rest of the season with an OBP of .053, the same as his OPS. He was the 5th player the Seattle Pilots drafted in the expansion draft.
  6. I fixed a bunch of stuff around the house that had been annoying me for a very long time. My bathroom and media room now have fully-functioning doorknobs that don't come out. (Older house, modern doorknobs did not work). Kind of embarrassing, but I basically live alone with a dog, so it wasn't a super big deal. Fixed my fence gate (for now), so I don't have to lift it to latch it. Fixed the front closet door (hinges were coming out of the doorjamb which is old. Used toothpicks. Replaced a broken medicine cabinet door. I am not good at fixing things. This weekend was a big deal for me.
  7. There IS cause for alarm, Chris Illitch still owns this team.
  8. Seriously, who is going to be Tiger Of The Year? Tarik Skubal, I guess (missed 40% of the season). Don't sell me Gregory Soto. Of the hitters the candidates would be Harold Castro or............or........Riley Greene? Javier Baez, having the absolute worst year of his career, leads our team in WAR. He has 21 errors with 3 weeks to go and it could be 25 if Torkelson hadn't bailed him out so many times. So infuriating.
  9. LOL. He won't get it right. He'll go cheap. The only get it right scenario is firing absolutely everybody on the baseball operation side. I mean everyone. Why is A.J. in on hiring the next GM. That's very Lionesque right there. A.J. should be gone too. How people aren't lumping him in with this disaster is shocking to me. Several veteran players all having their worst year and a #1 draft pick that was mishandled from day one...........that's on him as much as anyone else. I'll stick by my assessment that if they don't fire every single scout and every single coach/trainer/evaluator, then they aren't serious about making things better. This has been going on for decades and the only time this team has been respectable since the late 80s was when they had an owner who was willing to spend stupid money to get guys here. Well we don't have that anymore and unless they sell the team, we won't ever have that again. They've hit on some pitchers in the draft, but not enough and well.........the last position player to make more than one All-Star team is Curtis Granderson (2009 & 2012). Either they can't recognize talent or they can't develop it - or in the Tigers case - I think it's both. I won't say Torkelson is a bust yet, but unless we get some different people working with him, he will be. I had a soft spot for Chris Fetter and the job he's done with the pitching staff, but with the unfathomable amount of pitching injuries on this team, I think you have to wonder if he has played a part in that. They aren't just unlucky, they're pathetic and the owner couldn't give a fuck. Well, I haven't watched a game since the day my dog died (July 6th) and I haven't missed it. Look at the post count on Game Threads in this universe of ours. Look at how low it is. I know we don't mean much of anything in the grand scheme, but we're the fucking die-hards and if we've turned away, it's a worse-case scenario because the passive fans will follow. No more cards left to play, the big prospects are here now, all they have left is Miguel Appreciation Day (which should be the last home game this season). What are you gonna sell us next year? Harold Castro is literally our best hitter.
  10. I don't know how nobody at Maryland knew what was going on and they had medical personnel there and I wonder if they were prevented from helping the kid out. I can't understand how medically trained people on a hot day would not have spotted a heatstroke immediately. I remember watching Real Sports and a high school coach in Texas had a kid collapse and he did not hesitate, he had the kids teammates pick him up and run him right into the showers where they got cool water on him as fast as possible......saved the kid's life. How do all coaches not know this? How are they not looking for it on these hot days? The days of Frank Kush and Woody Hayes are over, man, thank goodness. Yeah, Brian Kelly should have been fired. At any point did Kelly himself tell that kid to get up there? I think that was the question and Kelly is like Michael Corleone, he had a lot of buffers. The fact that the kid texted "Gust of wind up to 60 mph will be fun at work, I guess I've lived long enough." and "Holy fuck this is terrifying" says all you need to know about how obvious it was that he shouldn't have been up there. And you know what, the guy in charge has to take the ultimate responsibility, but not when the football team is good, right?
  11. If it was the Detroit Lions they would have run 10 seconds off................because reasons.
  12. No it's not. Look at how many scumbags there are in LEADERSHIP positions. Including our own school Bo knew a predator was around and not only did nothing, but used the leverage to get him to do whatever he wanted.
  13. Brian Kelly killed a kid. Urban Meyer allowed a future murderer to hone his craft in college with no punishment. Great guys.
  14. Screw you, Brian..............LOL
  15. I don't know, the foul ball off Greene's foot.................safe to call it an Omen now, ain't it?
  16. They have to go 12-16 the rest of the way to avoid 100 loss season. I don't see that happening.
  17. Just give Miggy his money for next year and have an appreciation day. Hopefully they have a home game April 18th next year and they can have a 40th birthday party for him and new Tigers GM Atanas Illitch can bring some of the game's superstars in to celebrate it and then we can all move on. This is such a long, sad slog to the end.

  19. in his defense, he stopped running because he thought it was caught.
  20. Didn't Sean Casey have a 7-3 out once?
  21. Am I a petty person if I say I enjoyed Dylan Cease giving up the hit with 2 outs in the 9th. Revenge for Milt Wilcox in 1983 !!!!
  22. vanilla today. lots and lots of vanilla. hard to tell if they are really good.
  23. not a very exciting game, but Michigan is not going to show any new wrinkles.
  24. Karsch & Jansen are much much better than Brandy & Dierdorf, and it's only Game #1
