I personally have no problem with Baez, Id prefer Correa and Seager over him or if we could get Semien on a short term deal but if those scenarios don't come to fruition I'm fine with Baez. I gave my reasons before why I'm fine with him, I know many worry about him in the clubhouse and his lack of walks and high K total but I think his positives out weigh that. Story I'm just weary of due to his numbers away from Coors. I do concede that the opposing parks in the NL West outside of Coors are some of the more pitcher friendly ones in all of baseball so it would make sense for a Colorado player to have bad road numbers but Story's 220 point difference in OPS is pretty damn drastic. With that said if there is batted ball data or other analytics that suggest that it isn't something to be concerned with then I would be fine with him but otherwise I'll remain skeptical and view him as the worst option.

I've read reports from some scouts that say they don't see Semien as a full time SS right now let alone 3 or 4 years from now. Of course we really don't have a 2B after next year either so if he can only play 2B from that point on it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for us.

#141 Indiana at #17 Michigan in a football game

This isn't just a Harbaugh criticism because this is a pet peeve of mind that seemingly all coaches do. It was 4th and 1 there and they were trying to draw them offsides, fine try it but if it doesn't work just take the 5 yard delay of game penalty vs. using a timeout. A 2nd half timeout is way more valuable than potentially 5 yards of field position. -
Personally I really don't either as far as being a frontline guy but I do think he is more than capable of being a league average starter which would be an upgrade over last year.
-
It would be but I don't think its that far fetched. Mize's numbers were terrible in 2020 and he rebounded.
-
Gausman is another potentially great starting pitcher. Some may feel he is a product of SF and their pitching whisperers though.
-
Yeah I know at some point myself nd I'm sure others on here even suggested taking him in the first if we were able to trade down.

I missed a few portions of the game but watched most of Cade's time and the downside of the game for him is that he did get a bit passive after beating a defender. Last night he drew a bunch of fouls, tonight not so much. Also his defense didn't look as good. That could be attributed to tired legs and getting in early foul trouble though. -

Definitely better than he was, especially from outside but he missed a few too many from mid to close. Can't make them all but going forward he'll need to make a couple more of those misses. What I like is that he has shown no problem getting himself good looks off the dribble, may not have the athleticism to dominate around the basket but he has shown he is good enough to get his own good look. Just has been missing too many thus far, even if he hits 45% of those he'd be at like 25pts tonight. -
I always been of the mindset of peak over career totals. If at one point you were considered the best at your position and/or top 5 player in the league for atleast a handful of years you should be in regardless of how you aged(extreme examples aside). That's why I was so upset with Johan Santana being knocked off the ballot his first year. He was the defacto best pitcher in baseball for 6 or 7 years, to me that is more worthy than a really good player compiling stats for a bunch of years.

Yeah in baseball an albatross contract isn't the worse thing in the world and really shouldn't set you back much at all. All it may prevent you from doing is spending big money on other free agents.

28-23 Nets after 1, Cade finishes with 9 pts on 3-6 shooting but again I feel he was cheated out of a 3 so should be 12 pts on 4-7. Also he got by Durant twice on isos and atleast once that I saw against Bruce Brown so that is a plus. -

Cade 7 pts in the first 9 minutes plus he made a 3 that was negated cause they said he was out of bounds when he shot it but looking at the replay I thought it was a bad call so he should have 10pts right now. -
If he gives us 160 innings of say a 4.25 era that is a big net gain vs. the 80 of a 6 ERA that he gave us this year. That was what I was getting at, he doesn't have to be the ace that we hoped he would be for him to bring us extra value next year.
-
They're also counting on some extra 120 or so innings from Manning, Mize and Skubal with hopefully some progression. If they can produce a mid to upper 3ish ERA for those 120 innings that will go a long way.

I have only watched 5 quarters of Cade but what has impressed me is that he just looks like a seasoned vet out there. Just the poise and confidence he exudes makes you believe that he belongs. Like last year Killian pre injury just looked like this nervous rookie that shouldnt be out there, I don't get those vibes from Cade. He doesn't have that deer in the headlight look to me, he has a certain swagger about him despite being only 19 and playing 3 games. -
I think many of us were high on him going into the draft and were surprised when he fell. Just like I felt at the time of the draft, I wish we would've pounced on him with our 2nd pick.
-
Oh that's cool, I wasn't sure how the whole NFL waiver wire worked. I was under the assumption that you only got the player for the rest of the year, knowing that we control him for multiple years definitely changes my perspective.
-
That's what I was thinking but would OBJ decide to play for us or would he just sit out instead?
-
He definitely outpitched his peripherals last year but even if he is only a low 4 ERA like they suggest instead of the actual low 3 there is some value there. He's been pretty consistent in his innings pitched throughout his career so you could probably rely on him giving you 150+ innings of league average pitching at worst. I think that is well worth the 10 million but perhaps this means that Avila is aiming higher for his starting pitcher that he is after?
-
I guess their GM said they tried to trade him the past couple weeks but there were no buyers. Idk I find that a little hard to believe but at the same time I guess he really doesnt have a reason to lie about it. You think though that Avila would've tried to get him when he got Barnhart if that were the case.

Reds passed on Miley's 10m option but unfortunately the Cubs already claimed him.

I only watched the 3rd quarter and he looked good there but right after I posted that it seems he fell off a cliff. The good news is he drew some fouls and got to the line and still worked on defense and contributed in other areas despite his shot not falling. He was touted as a good shooter ever since his High School days so a week of bad shooting isn't going to change my opinion of him and assume that he has a terrible jumper. Also he led the team in plus minus at plus 7. I know that isn't a perfect stat but its good to see the team outscore the opponent while he is out there despite his shot not falling, I think it shows that he contributes in alot of different ways namely getting guys like Grant much better looks. -
