  1. If you're drafting a QB 6th, you've already made that decision. A top 10 pick is someone who should be a foundational piece. Not an insurance policy. I also like how the article says it's not a shot at Goff. Of course it is. You're saying you don't have confidence he's good enough. I'm guessing this same writer isn't writing articles about Kansas City, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Philadelphia etc to take 1st round QBs. He's probably on the side of Baltimore signing Jackson instead of drafting a QB. Not sure why so many people go through the hassle of trying not to say they don't think Goff is good enough.
  2. You draft a QB 6th to replace Goff. I love how people just want to dance around the obvious and not say they don't think Goff is good enough. Nobody said Baltimore should draft a QB even with the Lamar Jackson contract situation. No one is saying Cincinnati should draft a QB instead of paying Burrow $50 million. You're not drafting a QB 6th to be a backup or for cap savings. It's because you don't think Goff is good enough.
  3. Ummm, that doesn't at all say the Lions are in the market for a QB. It's that writers opinion.
  4. And I trust Brad Holmes not to do something foolish like draft a backup QB in the 1st round. If a QB is drafted in the 1st round, Goff will be gone within one year.
  5. Just keep drafting QBs. Eventually one is bound to turn out good, and if they do, keep drafting them because eventually you'll have to replace them.
  6. When Alex Smith was the same age as Goff, Kansas City traded a 2nd round pick for him and signed him to an extension. It was years later before they drafted Mahomes.
  7. Your logic appears to be to find a castoff QB like Steve Young or Brett Favre. Is there a QB that was castoff from his team, maybe one where the team paid a 1st round pick to make him go away? Hmmm can't think of a QB that fits.
  8. All of them except for Bledsoe are older than Goff and Brady was a 6th round pick. That is such an outlier and no QB drafted in the 6th round has done anything similar. If Holmes drafts Richardson 6th and his 53% completion doesn't work in the NFL and Goff continues to play at this level for another team, then there is certainly a point. The Lions would be the Bucs in the Young comparison and the team that acquires Goff would be the 49ers.
  9. I'm surprised Elon Musk hasn't wiped these tweets from the server yet. Guess the cat is out of the bag now.
  10. Maybe you should think about the teams that let Young and Favre get away and how they didn't identify the QBs they had.
  11. I was talking the Favre to Rodgers transition but yeah Atlanta drafted Favre in the 2nd round and then gave him away after one season. A waste of a pick.
  12. Don't draft a QB when you have a 28 year old Pro Bowl QB. Brett Favre was 36 when they drafted Rodgers. He had flirted with retirement. Tom Brady was a 6th round pick who has a 3rd string QB. It wasn't some genius plan. The Patriots got lucky.
  13. Glad you brought up Steve Young. The 49ers didn't draft Steve Young. He played in the USFL and then was on Tampa. He was then traded to the 49ers because Tampa drafted Testeverde. That worked out well for Tampa.
  14. Well your welcome to leave the conversation then.
  15. Or hopefully we have a front office who can identify the next Drew Brees. Keep in mind that Holmes was part of the front office that identified Goff as the best QB in the draft and traded multiple picks for.
  16. Drafting a backup QB in the first round may be even dumber than drafting a QB for cap space. If you are drafting a QB in the first round, you are drafting him to replace Goff. Sooner rather than later.
  17. And Goff has been resurrected but that's not good enough for some people.
  18. Orlovsky was also drafted at a time when everybody thought they would be drafting the next Brady. What a time that was.
  19. I mean, I originally said the Lions could have drafted Goff and not signed Stafford to an extension. It's a similar comparison but yeah they likely wouldn't have signed Kitna if they drafted Rodgers. Guess it's better to play in the fantasy world where the Lions draft Mahomes.
  20. Holmes passed on a QB who was better than Richardson to draft a tackle.
  21. Well this doesn't make any sense since Rodgers was drafted while Stafford was still in high school and Jon Kitna was on the Bengals at the time. When Goff was drafted, that a year before Stafford signed his extension. Think of the cap savings!
  22. Brad Holmes was in the room that drafted Goff and the guy that drafted Mahomes drafted Baker Mayfield. Ligthning doesn't strike twice and the grass isn't always greener.
  23. Once upon a time the Lions could have drafted Goff and played him on a rookie contract instead of extending Stafford.
  24. Everybody thinks they are going to draft the next Mahomes.
