  1. You can still draft a QB but only if they run fast and are very inaccurate.
  2. No, we can only draft QBs when we have multiple 1st round picks and an already established youngish QB who we don't want to pay.
  3. Your baseball analogy makes no sense. Why is hitting a HR on a 3-0 count the equivalent of drafting a QB? Why not swing for a HR in Bijan Robinson? I was talking about when they drafted and then when they signed Stafford which was 2017.
  4. We can only draft QBs now if we have multiple 1st round picks.
  5. Can you assure me that a rookie QB will be nearly as good as Goff in 2022? Can you assure me that in four years if the rookie is as good as Goff he will not ask for a very large contract? Can you assure me that a rookie will not have a career ending injury? What I can say is that Goff has played at a high level like this over multiple seasons in the NFL on very good offenses that went deep in the playoffs. I can also say that Goff has been very durable throughout his career missing minimal time due to injury. These assurance are just silly. There's a lot more risk moving from a known commodity like Goff to a rookie. I never said anything about the 2015 season. I said Stafford was signed coming off a 9 win season. Your logic makes no sense. Because the Lions weren't stacked with picks and Quinn was new (Holmes only has one more year of experience) that the Lions should just say fuck it and give Stafford the largest contract ever. The Rams didn't have two first round picks when they traded for Goff.
  6. The 2011 Tigers started 3-7 and finished the season with 95 wins and an ALCS appearance.
  7. Well I'm sure the 4th or 5th best QB in this draft is more talented than our current QB who was drafted number one overall an scouted by our GM.
  8. Justin Fields was sitting there for them to draft and they leapt out of their chairs for Sewell and now they are going to take a worse prospect at QB after Goff is much better than he was in 2020?
  9. The college prospect is always more talented than your current QB.
  10. The offense was 5th in the league and Goff was top 10 and a Pro Bowler. Meanwhile the defense ranked 28th and for a stretch was worst in NFL history but sure we're in a situation where we can draft a QB. I would also add that Quinn was in his 1st year as GM when Goff was drafted and when Stafford signed his contract. They were coming off a 9 win season just like they are now so there was faith in the GM at the time. Stafford's contract was running out. He had two years left when Goff was drafted. Same as Goff has now. Stafford was the same age as Goff is now when Goff was drafted. Stafford was similarly coming off a good rebound season after a few sub par seasons.
  11. Using this logic, the Lions should have traded a bunch of picks in 2016 for Goff, sat him in 2016 behind Stafford, and then traded Stafford before the 2017 instead of signing him to an extension. Rinse and repeat with Goff in 2018. Got to have those rookie contracts.
  12. The being cheap at the most important position on the field is another of my favorites.
  13. I old enough to remember another Lions QB who supposedly couldn't beat good defenses.
  14. Goff also made multiple Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl before coming to the Lions so his body of work isn't just a half of season with the Lions.
  15. So which half was the easy half? Goff posted a 99.9 QB rating in games 1-4, 81.9 in games 5-8, 104 in 9-12, and 107 in 13+. Games 5-8 he had some real clunkers against the Patriots and Cowboys but had a really good game against Miami and a meh game against Green Bay than he won. Seems like it came down to two bad games. Seems like the argument that Goff was bad in two games so we should draft a QB is not a good one. Meanwhile Anthony Richardson had 4 games where he completed 60% of his passes but he runs fast.
  16. I like the argument because the Lions won't be drafting this high because they have a good QB and will be winning games so they won't be drafting high to draft a QB.
  17. Goff has an optics problem. The way he departed the Rams he had a lot of labels and some people made up their mind in 2021 on Goff. No way there would be a pro Richardson crowd if he didn't have all the athletic measurables. I would love to see the person who would be a pro 53% pocket passer.
  18. It's not that Calvin Johnson retired, it's that he still expects to get paid and acts like a petulant child over it. Calvin Johnson decided to take the huge contract WCF and the god forsaken franchise offered him instead of doing what Suh did and sign elsewhere.
  19. I read again what the Lions did to Charles Rogers and it makes me even madder at Calvin Johnson. The Lions filed a grievance with Rogers for violating his contract for being suspended for drugs, drugs in which the Lions team doctors gave him. They took him to court and won a $6.1 million judgement. Johnson, meanwhile, had $113 million in career earnings, was the highest paid receiver ever at the time, and quit in the middle of the contract and thinks he's entitled to money he didn't earn. He can get lost.
