  1. Guess I'm not sure how people expect rebuilds to go? It's going to be for a few years before it gets better. I think the problem is the Tigers just don't seem to have the depth of the talent they should have after going through 4 years of tanking.
  2. I like how keeps saying the Supreme Court would rule 9-0 against them. He has a lot more faith in Thomas than I do.
  3. After listening to this testimony, it comes off to me as Pence was desperately trying to find a way to overturn the election legally.
  4. Are you saying that in Pennsylvania, a state with closed primaries, that registered Democrats changed their registration to Republican just to vote for Mastriano?
  5. I'll expect everyone here when Correa signs for 9 years $225 million next year to praise Avila for reading the market and knowing that they could get him for less the following year.
  6. I mean, the Tigers could still sign Correa next year and move Baez to 2B.
  7. Wait, you keep saying the Tigers lowballed at $275 million, now you are saying there health risks with Correa which is why no one beat the Tigers offer, and somehow the Tigers not paying $340 million is lowballing? And you go on to say he has to prove he is worth $340 million, which he clearly did not, and the Tigers lowballed by not giving him $340 which you are saying he wasn't worth? The Tigers didn't go above $275 million because of the health risks. It was a fair offer since it was more guaranteed money than any other team was offering for a guy who has a bit of an injury history. I would also be shocked if it didn't include an opt out after two or three years in which he could test the market again.
  8. It's come out that there are now four kids where he hasn't been involved with creating four separate childless homes.
  9. I still struggle to find what is so extreme about universal health care, gun control, LGBT rights, pro-abortion, affordable college, etc? These are all things offered in modern developed countries. Is Norway extreme? Canada? Australia? Sweden? On the flip side, what countries want to ban abortion, encourage more gun ownership, restrict what can be said in schools, ban books, anti LGBT, no universal health care, no affordable college, etc?
  10. Again, nobody paid him what he wanted. That means he wasn't worth what he wanted. The market states he was only worth $275 million. If I ask $250k and the most anybody will pay is $190K, it doesn't mean I was lowballed. It means my house isn't worth as much as I thought it was and I could either accept it since it's the best offer or I can rent it for a year, hope the tenants don't destroy it, try to sell it again next year. There's no guarantee next year I will get the $250k. Lowballing would be if I asked $250K, houses in the neighborhood were going for $220-230k and I was offered $190k when other were offering $230k. I would then counteroffer for $235k because I have other offers. The thing is, Correa didn't have counteroffers. There was absolutely no need for the Tigers to just give Correa an extra $65 million because he wanted it.
  11. The one son that Herschel Walker did raise is batshit crazy so I'm thinking the other kids dodged a bullet.
  12. The first Cabrera extension was a steal and worked in the Tigers favor locking him up early. I would say the difference is they were signing a 24 year old Cabrera to a long term extension vs a 30 year old Cabrera.
  13. This is how negotiation works. The Tigers offer $275 million and then Correa gets an offer from another team for $300 million and either the Tigers beat it or walk away. The thing is, the Tigers offer was the highest one he got. No team was willing to go higher so why should the Tigers? The market was established. Correa either takes the Tigers offer or settles for one that guarantees $170 million less and try again next year if you don't get injured or underperform.
  14. Right the shorter contract comes with more upside but higher risk. That doesn't mean the Tigers lowballed with their $275 million offer considering no one offered more money. It wasn't until after he didn't get more money did he settle for a riskier short term contract. I'm also convinced the Tigers contract had an opt out so he could have still tested the market. All that aside, I'm not even sure the point of the Tigers signing him to that contract. What point would there be to sign Correa for one year? The Tigers were only considered a fringe playoff contender so really what point would there be in having Correa for a year?
  15. If we are going to the Dombrowski years, I would rate Granderson over Avila.
  16. He thought it was a good deal and thought Baez would get a lot more. In fact, he thought Baez would get over $200 million from Detroit. Now he's complaining that the Tigers are locked in for 6 years and didn't get Correa for $105 million even though he thought he would get $350 million. He's a pretty good hindsight GM.
  17. You're free to add me to your ignore list since you like to bitch about my posting so go ahead. Your move.
  18. Guaranteed when it came out that Avila paid $65+ million more than any other team was willing to pay you would be the first to criticize that decision. Ironically, the complaint would be that Avila misread the market because he vastly overpaid.
  19. What is so bizarre to me is Avila is being criticized for taking a shot at Correa by offering him more guaranteed money than any other team and yet it was lowballing because Correa wanted more even though no team was willing to pay it.
  20. There's a difference between what you are worth and what you want. My house has a market value of $250,000. I want to sell it for $600,000 but if the most someone is going to offer me is $250,000, it doesn't mean I was lowballed. It means I misread the market and had an overinflated sense of what my house was worth. Meanwhile, while I was demanding more for my house than every other house in the neighborhood, people started buying up the houses in my neighborhood and mine remained stagnant. Now there are fewer buyers left for my house so I decide to rent it out for a year and hope next year the market will be better.
  21. I guarantee the Tigers offer had an opt out and he wasn't locked in for 10 years. Players these days don't sign big contracts like that without an opt out. I mean, the Tigers gave Baez an opt out. I'm sure that was available to Correa. Even putting the opt out aside, one contract guarantees him $170 million more no matter what. The other comes with some risk. It's reasonable that if you are going to make a long term commitment, you get a discount on AAV.
  22. You keep saying lowballing when the Tigers offered him more money than anyone else. That's not lowballing. What Avila was thinking, or more appropriately Illitch, is that if no other team was willing to pay more, why should the Tigers? It's well understood that Correa was never going to take an offer $65 million below his asking price but yet accepted one $235 million below his asking price and $170 million below what the Tigers offered but somehow the Tigers lowballed him. This is insanity.
  23. I would be afraid a Tiger pitcher would go out the next day and drill an opposing hitter in the knee.
