  1. i caught some of the mudhens game on mlb network last night (i was able to watch -- i don't know how). the announcers didn't identify the pitcher and i didn't bother to look up who it was but he looked pretty bad. memphis was hammering him
  2. i never understood the reasoning for cutting this guy loose as nonchalantly as they did. he seemed like a great fit for tiger stadium and early comerica park. 'randy smith' is all i can say
  3. still dry in the fancy 'burbs where i work
  4. i wonder if they are demoralized after the skubal news. i could see how they would be, but also how they would rally. who knows
  5. zack short is up; jace jung is southbound
  6. me too. if the dh is hitting 9th, that dude shouldn't be the dh
  7. all the homers he's surrendered feel like a kick to the groin for me for sure
  8. he's proven himself as a swing-and-miss reliever
  9. Jung is DHing today, which is his best defensive position
  10. what's that saying, you can't fire all the players, so fire the manager
  11. Then Chris Ilitch will use the money to finance a new show that will be featured at the Fox Theatre, called Lately My Friends, which will be about Chris, several City of Detroit officials, and several from the State, all of whom end up at a condo in The District Detroit™ with hilarious consequences.
  12. i got my picture taken with skeeter barnes once when he was manager of the lakeland tigers, circa 2000. sadly i have misplaced it
  13. i have done it, but not for maybe 16 years. it is as oblong describes. the line sometimes wraps all the way around the concourse, so it might add 45 minutes or so onto your game-day experience. back in the mid-2000s, parents could run with their kids. once i did it just so that i could run around the diamond at comerica. my most recent experience is that parents are not allowed to join, and there are like ushers out on the diamond to keep the kids moving. i don't think they're actual ushers; it might be the dte girls. i would crash into a few of them. anyway, enjoy!
  14. sunk cost. pay him or don't. the question is whether the team is better with or without him
  15. i don't know the conditions at comerica but we just had a 5-minute downpour in the fancy 'burbs. now the sun is out again
  16. i've been thinking about this thread and there are so many games i could list. i'll just offer a few that stand out to me. first, ones i was fortunate to attend June 1994 -- Lou's grand slam to win the game September 2003 -- Tigers avoid infamy by beating the twins October 2006 -- first playoff game at Comerica Park October 2006 -- Magglio's homer game October 2012 -- Miggy K's to end the world series September 2014 -- Tigers clinch the central i have a practice of going to the last home game of the year whenever possible. i've seen some cool stuff. the Tigers clinch, other teams clinch, the Tigers dither away a division on tv, game 163 from 2009, game 5 of the 2011 division series, and game 5 of the seattle series last year stand out to me.
  17. some guys will put their wedding ring on a chain when they're playing, because it is uncomfortable (and can actually lead to injury) to wear a ring inside a glove. i don't know if that is finnegan's thing but it is a possible reason for what you saw
  18. it is absolutely pouring on driveways in birmingham
  19. only if you're pitching to yourself like you're ted williams
  20. i agree on maggs being iffy. my thinking was between his home run in 2006 and the batting championship in 2007 he might qualify. gibson seems higher in the pecking order to me, as is lance parrish for being such a big part of the 1980s teams
  21. am i not seeing kaline there? he might be a good choice EDIT: is that him way in the back? i think you could reasonably have any number of others. gibson, magglio both come to mind as being big parts of tigers lore
