  1. "some scouts believe that Samuel is a good athlete," others, meh, not so much
  2. Is anyone concerned that the league has now figured out how to minimize Carpenter? He hasn't homered in over a month. His OPS in that time frame is below .700. His OBP is still pretty good, in the .330s, but his slugging isn't much more than that. Maybe it's just a slump, but the duration is starting to worry me.
  3. I recall that Chris Brown was the guy who couldn't play a game because he slept wrong on his eye. He came in a trade with Keith Moreland, for Walt Terrell
  4. Dan was saying on the broadcast that the team will be in Oakland next year no matter what happens. After that, TBD

Something identifying the most common wrong answer for each square. I blew it on the Dodgers pitcher with 3,000 K; two wrong picks before getting it.
  6. This suggests to me that GM is not going to be a baseball-focused position. Harris will retain responsibility for all that stuff I presume. EDIT: Time with the Cubs shows that perhaps I was too hasty . . .
  7. Going to the closing game is a big priority for me. It is the last chance to see the team before the days get short, the weather gets gold, and the daily rhythm of games is gone. Plus, being at the last Tigers home game, I've seen some cool stuff. Shane Halter play nine positions, the White Sox close out the division in 2005 (not that cool for us but kind of a cool event), 2014 clincher, and others. Everybody loves opening day but I think closing day is better.

  9. I hate all the shoes, too. I miss black cleats. I remember a quote from (I think) Mark McGwire when he got traded to the Cardinals, saying he thought a big difference was going from white shoes to red.
  10. You can still get those from retailers like Mitchell & Ness. Banishing that version of the olde english D was one of the dumbest moves of the Avila regime. And they tried to sell us on MLB pushing uniformity. Yet the Yankees still have multiple different interlocking NY logos.
  11. I sucked today. How is it that Hank Aaron never won a silver slugger? Did it not exist back then?
  12. He was a much better candidate than his contemporary rotation mate that did!
  13. I was thinking it was storm davis, who would have been an underserving candidate, but it was that other fella
  14. if we had as much to cheer about as Phils fans, we would be
