  1. These are great, thanks for sharing. I thought I knew a lot of Tigers from the 1990s but I couldn't come up with their names. I had a lot of instances the way I remembered Dave Borkowski -- local guy, pitcher, later played for Houston -- but I couldn't remember the names.
  2. Meh, he's too likely to wind up injured
  3. Ah, memories of Karim Garcia. He was the best player in Mexico, y'know
  4. But only if they won. Losers don't get juice boxes
  5. I remember being puzzled by that, too. Hamelin's LH power seemed like a good fit for Tiger Stadium. I always just chalked it up to Randy Smith being a bozo.
  6. that outfield looks . . . short
  7. he hasn't hit LH pitching much since 2019. i'd sooner roll with Vierling-Ibanez
  8. I don't think the Tigers really ought to be interested in Arenado. The point of a RH third basemen is to hit LH pitching, and for a few years Arenado has actually hit RH pitching much better than LH pitching (and hasn't hit LH pitching very well). Unless they just want somebody who can actually play 3B, he isn't the solution.
  9. it is time that should be in the best shape of his life
  10. Law hates the Tigers and only complimented the team in this manner because he knew it would sow discord among Tigers fans
  11. I am happy for faster games but I also think the 6:40 start time is bad. I can virtually never make first pitch because I work for a living, and not downtown.
  12. Jones is a basketball name
  13. A lot like George Best: ‘I spent a lot of money on booze, birds, and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.’
  14. The holidays got in the way and I never continued this conversation. The "have some fun with it" was in reference to fans, like me, who bring this up. But I bring it up because Verlander, at least, compares favorably to somebody like Alex Cobb. They both stunk in 2024. But they were pretty similar in 2023 (Max was a little behind but not too far). So if that is the type of guy the Tigers are looking for, yeah, it appeals to me to bring back Verlander. And if we think Fetter & Co. can coax more performance out of Cobb, why do we not think that about Verlander or Scherzer? I don't really expect that it's going to happen, but I like the idea.
  15. MLBTR suggests Colt to 3B but who knows
  16. Tigers are reportedly signing Gleyber Torres. Discuss.
  17. I don’t know if I’m knowledgeable, and I don’t think I’m salivating, but the reason I bring it up, is that the pool of available guys is dwindling, and if the kind of guy the Tigers are after is some sort of reclamation or salvage, why not have a little fun with it?
  18. Walker Buehler reported to Boston and Manaea back to the Mets. There aren’t that many arms left out there. I wonder if a reunion with Flaherty, Verlander, or Scherzer might be a possibility. The latter two are more about nostalgia than results, but I still wouldn’t mind
  19. Suzuki’s OBP would definitely be welcome
  20. details like what team they play for? 😉
  21. It sounds like the $15M is coming from sources other than the Rays
  22. they could've been the wet sox. afterward the giants threatened to leave SF to go there. i think that was more like '89
  23. For me, he needs to OPS .750, but with a good component of that coming from slugging and not OBP. The problem is that the team will find out too late if he can do it, i.e., they have to spend now
  24. I like this too but with Tork in the fold and Walker requiring the Tigers to sacrifice a draft pick (or perhaps two? I'm not sure) because of the QO, I have a hard time thinking it will happen. I think they're more likely to bring in somebody who can play 1B on the type of contract that they can eat during the year if Tork finds himself
