I wouldn't be surprised if you broke down actual fraud you'd find many stories that aren't all that horrible sounding. I 'may' know someone who legitimately got hurt at work. Hurt in a manner that will affect him physically the rest of his life and prevented him from keeping his job. He does cash jobs on the side that require physical work. It helps him contribute to his family more. If this person actually exists, he's a 'double dipper' and committing fraud. In the long run, he will probably save the government money because he is absolutely wrecking his body which will affect his life span. He's also doing something that most hard working people I know would do, sacrifice themselves for their family.

Should I ever be homeless, I would choose to be homeless in San Diego. To be fair to Oblongs cousins, the homeless issue is crazy in some cities, my BIL (progressive dem) even feels homelessness is out of hand in Seattle (where he lives) and Portland (where he visits regularly due to his wife's family. My cousin in Portland (progressive dem by midwest standards, probably just a dem there) won't ride his bike to work anymore because so many encampments have pushed bikers out of bike lanes and into the street and during rush hour he says he doesn't feel safe with traffic. He biked to work since he's moved out there (15 years ago or so) until last year. Note: neither have said they want to leave their locations and love living there. It's just one side note they aren't happy about.

Funny you say this as this as I was saying similar stuff. I said we’ll eat at a restaurant (something ‘Merican like Buddy’s) and he might see folks in full body clothing and in the next booth you’ll have a 2nd/3rd generation Middle Eastern family with a teenager wearing less than I would let my own daughter walk out of the house with.

Serious question, why do you want them there? What do you feel is going on in Portland that requires the National Guard. Also as someone that claims to be conservative, aren't you generally looking for the most cost effective solution? Sending cash to blue cities to help them hire more cops (which blue cities actually would love to do if they could afford too) would be much more cost effective then sending the National Guard. My MAGA brother wants the National Guard in Dearborn, because you know, Sharia Law, ISIS, all the terror attacks that originate from their apparently...etc. He doesn't live in Michigan, but I told him next time he's around, we'll head to Dearborn. He is fully convinced every women is in the full garb, getting beat on the street if they don't maintain the correct distance behind their husband. He seriously needs to work on his algorithm.

There are many state level republicans and even some national level ones that are keeping their head down and doing good work. The only issue I have with many of them is when it comes to their primaries, it's hard to differentiate their talk from Trump as they want to win their primary. Also why I won't support them.
-
I mean, I don't want to get nitpicky with that whole 'law' thing, but pretty sure he doesn't have the power to pay anyone unless congress acts. So essentially what you're getting is exactly what Trump loves to do, he loves to talk out of his ass and when it fits his purposes, he gets his minions like you to point out 'but Trump wanted to pay soldiers!!!!'.

He's different for sure. His 'I think you should leave' skit show on Netflix at times had me wondering why I was watching it at times, yet other times laughing so hard that I'd wake up my wife from the other room.

Wow, you got me. This is exactly what a sane person would start rambling about when honoring a guy that got shot and killed. You win, so much winning for you.
-
You see Trump when he posthumously awareded Kirk the Medal of Freedom? I think the best part is when our sane, completely with it president started bragging about how he was better at getting out of the way of bullets than Kirk.

She should go for jail for her silly attempt at 'fraud'. $18,933 in 'ill-gotten gains' over the life of the loan, probably a 30 year loan. so probably around 2500 in gains so far and certainly that has stopped now too. Is it right? No Could it have been a mistake? Yes Do people generally get criminally charged for mortgage fraud? Nope, per the following link, of the 38 people sentenced in 2024 for this, most were for dollar amounts in excess of 550k. Donald Trumps calculated 'ill-gotten gains' for what he did, $354,800,000. I didn't agree with her going after Trump on this. Very large loans are not negotiated the same way as a bank loan which you basically just shop for the best one around and take it. Still though, looking at the facts of each case, you'll see Trump did in fact defraud his bank by lying to them to get a better rate. But.. no one is above the law, or so I'm told. Which is why i'm sure Pulte is going to announce his parents are going to be prosecuted next as they somehow had primary homes in Michigan and Florida. I have this funny feeling the ill gotten gains are significantly more for whatever home the Pultes live in. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/10/us/politics/letitia-james-mortgage-fraud-charges.html

The old school conservative in me, you know the one that hates kids (once they are born). That voice inside of me says we should allow parents to opt out of vaccines, but if an outbreak for something you chose to not vaccinate on happens in your area, you are required to have a 'playdate' with the kids that have the disease. We might lose a few, but with their parents, they probably weren't going to really be that much of a benefit to society. Plus it would help keep herd immunity, so it would be a benefit to the population. I kid, I kid ..... kinda.

If the Tigers don't sign him by winter meetings, they should deal him. This org is serious in that they want to win on their terms with their guys and until those guys are helping the big league club, don't expect any additional help. So if we can get him, maybe 8/350, go for it. But if you can't find a deal that works, no point sending this team out next season without any improvements just to watch us compete for the wildcard again and likely get bounced early. Sucks that we've made it to the divisional series two years in a row, are a relatively young team, and we're told there is no reason to try to improve this team with outside help, it's preferable to wait 2-3 years for the 'calvary'.

Olson, Mize, Melton, Flaherty, Monteiro This is after Cobb turns down another 1 year deal and stays retired this time.

I agree, which is why the Dems need to fold immediately and not give him the chance. I am already seeing signs from some of my MAGA friends that of course there would be some struggles in the economy, of course there is going to be a little pain before the true Trump economy gets rolling. All of this despite the last 6 months of the economy being the best ever and bragging about any company that says they are investing money in a new factory which proved more MAGA winning. It's a cult, so they will bend to whatever dear leader says, but at some point, continued high prices on food and now large increases in healthcare would be tangible items Dems could use in the mid-terms.
-
For some reason I thought if the GOP got their way, healthcare premiums wouldn't go up until 2027, after the mid terms. But just read something today indicating they would go up this upcoming year. As such, maybe just capitulate on the budget. Tell supporters that elections matter and they simply don't have the votes and keeping the government shutdown is only going to hurt more people and not change anything. Maybe demand something unrelated to the budget, like the video/audio of Homan and the Epstein files. Even if you cave on that demand, it will only intensify the scrutiny. Plus the optics on the GOP, extending a shutdown because they refuse to release information which they claim clearly shows no criminal action.... seems like an easy thing to produce if everything is on the up and up. Then heading into the mid-terms you have a tangible item you can point to on healthcare costs which is going to hurt both sides of the aisle.

This will absolutely happen. Note: In my companies AI, roughly every week or so I give it 'resume' type information on me and say that if our CISO ever leaves, I would make a great candidate. I'm hopeful that in 2-3 years if she retires, by then upper mgmt will simply go to AI to determine some candidates and they are all going to wonder why our AI keeps putting me on the shortlist. Even better if they simply just give me the job!
-
I am a bit of a dreamer and i'll admit that I'm hopeful about what I wrote, but not necessarily confident of what I wrote. I will say that for a few hundred years now, man has developed new technologies that society has often been worried about how they will wipe away jobs, shut down industries, etc. And throughout all of it, we just discovered industries and areas to focus on. I do believe many things won't be replaced by AI either, but just hopeful that maybe we can get back to a place where facts are agreed to. I still use Twitter (x) and Grok really is good at deciphering bull****. If every AI can decipher basic bull****, maybe we'll get to the point where the misinformation is useless to even try and spread.
-
I'm skeptical about AI, but I'm also a fan. Part of that is because I'm rooting for it to solve some issues that currently are political issues, but once it's 'settled' by AI, we'll work towards that solution. Right away I understand the concern about 'settled', there is no such thing as settled science! But that's not what I'm talking about, I'm talking about AI getting to the point that the normal human expects it to solve that problem, track its own progress, and self correct as needed. There really are so many issues that both political parties are so close on and each have good ideas to help the problem. It truly could usher in an era of common sense policies that are based on facts, not ideas.

Trump is actually doing what he said he would... at least on this issue and in this instance. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/trump-administration/us-expand-intelligence-assistance-ukraine-strikes-russian-energy-facil-rcna235313

Ro isn't serious with this. He's just driving home the point that tariffs are a direct tax on consumers.

I supported AOL (and other dial services) until 2012 and in an advisory role until 2015. It was my understanding Level3 (Lumen now) was the only other dial network and they were shutting down soon after us. Crazy how long it stuck around.

Last nights NFL game faded out to one of its commercial breaks with a Goldfinger song, that led me to listening to some old songs of theirs. This was one of my favs:

I just did a quick lookup and the last superbowl was watched by roughly 210 million people in the US (plus another 62.5 million globally). Hispanic viewship was estimated at 14% and the spanish language broadcast was below 2%. The vast majority of viewers are English speaking, so it doesn't seem that outside of the box to think that entertainment for the group would match. The NFL is pushing their product to Latin/South America, as well as Europe, but they are making significant gains within our hemisphere. As such, I understand why Bad Bunny was picked, but I have no issues with the majority of viewers which this won't resonate with wondering if the NFL is turning their back on them either. My guess, the NFL figures it won't lose fans over this, but can gain fans with Bad Bunny. Think of it like Democrats and their constituents in large cities, they throw some talking points to them once in awhile, but by and far they ignore them just like the Republicans because they already have that market controlled.
-
To be fair, I'd probably enjoy that more than Bad Bunny.
