  1. You know what they say, vote for your interest.
  2. MTG was on Maher and honestly, it wasn't that bad. I'm not saying she's smarter than I thought, but I got the feeling that while she may have headed to congress based on some incorrect views, she really is trying to do a good job. (Not saying she's going about it correctly, just saying I got the vibe she wants to do good work, she not there just to grift/troll) The other guy on the panel, several times, seemed perplexed, not because what MTG said was so ridiculous, but because he was shocked what she said actually made sense. I will admit I was a bit perplexed too. We definitely don't need to worry about President MTG though, she is not smooth in front of a camera.
  3. Whoa now, I just reread everything I posted about Bari and some of the generalities discussed as a part of that and no where can I see where I said anything like this. All I'm trying to say, and it is only my opinion however I do feel many agree with me, is that a Journalist from 25 years ago had a very defined role, just as an editor, just as a columnist, etc. Because media has changed so much, and not for the better (IMO again), those roles are often blurred, sometimes even on purpose. For example, where a person will act as a journalist on a story and later act as a columnist to discuss their own story. As for the major MSM orgs, my guess is we would be pretty close on the ones we trust. As for CBS, I'll watch to see what comes of it, but I already have a distrust for any news organization that is owned by a larger media corporation. As for Weiss, I have no idea if she'll be good or not. She wouldn't have been my choice if I were Ellison, but I'd also like to think that if I was Ellison I wouldn't give a **** about what Trump thought of how I was running my company.
  4. Well, journalists/editors have long had ideas of what integrity meant and many have often found ways to convince themselves that they aren't putting their own bias into their stories. Overall, journalism was much better years ago. 1) There was more money in that field and 2) there wasn't direct competition from clickbait style journalism. As a result you also had a higher percentage of folks educated in journalism doing the job back then too. I'm not saying Bari is a good journalist. I think she's done some good work on articles i've read of hers, but I also think when she gets passionate about something, she focuses too much on the evidence that supports and underlying belief. That's not unheard of in that industry, but it is what has separated the best from the hacks. In the end, not much will change. When CBS puts out a story that sides with your beliefs, you're going to say 'heck, even the CBS agrees with me.' and when they don't, well of course it's because of Bari destroying the CBS brand in your view.
  5. I do think Bari believes she's an honest actor trying to shore up CBS, but I think she understands the reality that media is no longer about Integrity, it's about ratings. So I do think that's what she's trying to shore up. I do think she cares about integrity as well, but that's more of a 'plus' than a feature. Plus I don't think she's got a great track record of not showing bias, so that's not a plus for her. As far as decades tenured news chiefs, they were pissed off someone without extensive mgmt background was picked. Everyone either has a story, or knows someone well, that has a story about a company choosing someone for a position over someone else that on paper seemed to be a more obvious pick. People leave jobs every day for that reason. There are also stories where that decision turned out to be great, and others disastrous. Based on the trend of media today, my guess is if it's 'successful', that will still be disastrous for a society that needs good journalism. We need good journalism under democrats too, God only knows how much better a position we'd be in if some of those decades-tenured news chiefs bothered to force Biden to account for his positions. Might have led to him not running and giving the dems a chance to mount a legitimate race against Trump.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if Boras is putting on some pressure. That said, 4/80 could have been a legitimate offer last year, but not 1 year ago last year. Prior to the 2024 season, I could see the Tigers offering this. Get it leaked out now with a 'last year' comment to make it look like this is what the Tigers offered after he won his first CY and it definitely makes them look absurd.
  7. I initially was a little put off that you would say I was disingenuous, sarcastic...yes, disingenuous isn't something I feel I am though. That said, I looked it up: definition - not candid or sincere, typically by pretending that one knows less about something than one really does. I do find myself often pretending to not know as much as I do so I don't sound too smart. That's the cross I have to bear because of my intelligence. 😉 In this instance, I can assure you I wasn't being disingenuous though. I can't remember the last time I watched the nightly news and when I did, I don't think I could tell you which station it even was. I do know O'Donnell was brought in to revive the ratings, but she didn't. She was let go because of that. I know nothing about this new duo that replaced her, except that ratings haven't improved. You could argue they deserved more time, but we all got to this political forum based on our love of sports, so a new president/GM/owner coming in and putting in the folks they want, doesn't seem that crazy to me. Just like not every decision Trump makes is some masterful 4d chess move, despite of all the 'proof' Archie and Tigerholic provide to support the brilliant 4d chess moves, not every decision made by someone that doesn't fully side with democrats is some brilliant 4d chess move to help provide the crowning of King Trump.
  8. I'm not saying i'm confident in anything Weiss does, but I didn't see the left calling this the 'foxification' of CBS when they took O'Donnell off of the air due to bad ratings not that long ago. They tried something, it didn't work, they are going to try something else.
  9. That's less AI and more of the path education has been on recently. More focus on results than how you got the results.
  10. Same here, the way they went through it from each persons POV helped hide some of the plot holes, but dude, the teacher obviously has been through the ringer for a month yet the other kid apparently made it through without his parents even having to talk with the cops/school during that same time frame....gtfo.
  11. If Boras/Skubal have not even countered, then I want Hinch fired as well as Harris for not already firing Hinch for not sending him out for the 8th inning.
  12. Exactly, there is no 'right' choice on pulling the trigger now vs pulling the trigger at the deadline. Much of it will depend on circumstances/injuries affecting other teams and what they determine to be their biggest need. Regardless, a guy in his prime coming off of 2 CY's will be the belle of the ball. I'm still in between on what I want to see done. Part of me says that if these prospects are as good as Harris keeps on indicating, you pay Skubal AND put a veteran bat or two in the lineup as well.
  13. Boras is already discussing an extension with the Tigers, he would have no issue doing that with another team. That said, Skubal would need to sign in order to get a better return. Otherwise he's just a rental and you might get more value from him at the deadline with a team willing to overpay for a rental.
  14. I wouldn't be surprised if you broke down actual fraud you'd find many stories that aren't all that horrible sounding. I 'may' know someone who legitimately got hurt at work. Hurt in a manner that will affect him physically the rest of his life and prevented him from keeping his job. He does cash jobs on the side that require physical work. It helps him contribute to his family more. If this person actually exists, he's a 'double dipper' and committing fraud. In the long run, he will probably save the government money because he is absolutely wrecking his body which will affect his life span. He's also doing something that most hard working people I know would do, sacrifice themselves for their family.
  15. Should I ever be homeless, I would choose to be homeless in San Diego. To be fair to Oblongs cousins, the homeless issue is crazy in some cities, my BIL (progressive dem) even feels homelessness is out of hand in Seattle (where he lives) and Portland (where he visits regularly due to his wife's family. My cousin in Portland (progressive dem by midwest standards, probably just a dem there) won't ride his bike to work anymore because so many encampments have pushed bikers out of bike lanes and into the street and during rush hour he says he doesn't feel safe with traffic. He biked to work since he's moved out there (15 years ago or so) until last year. Note: neither have said they want to leave their locations and love living there. It's just one side note they aren't happy about.
  16. Funny you say this as this as I was saying similar stuff. I said we’ll eat at a restaurant (something ‘Merican like Buddy’s) and he might see folks in full body clothing and in the next booth you’ll have a 2nd/3rd generation Middle Eastern family with a teenager wearing less than I would let my own daughter walk out of the house with.
  17. Serious question, why do you want them there? What do you feel is going on in Portland that requires the National Guard. Also as someone that claims to be conservative, aren't you generally looking for the most cost effective solution? Sending cash to blue cities to help them hire more cops (which blue cities actually would love to do if they could afford too) would be much more cost effective then sending the National Guard. My MAGA brother wants the National Guard in Dearborn, because you know, Sharia Law, ISIS, all the terror attacks that originate from their apparently...etc. He doesn't live in Michigan, but I told him next time he's around, we'll head to Dearborn. He is fully convinced every women is in the full garb, getting beat on the street if they don't maintain the correct distance behind their husband. He seriously needs to work on his algorithm.
  18. There are many state level republicans and even some national level ones that are keeping their head down and doing good work. The only issue I have with many of them is when it comes to their primaries, it's hard to differentiate their talk from Trump as they want to win their primary. Also why I won't support them.
  19. I mean, I don't want to get nitpicky with that whole 'law' thing, but pretty sure he doesn't have the power to pay anyone unless congress acts. So essentially what you're getting is exactly what Trump loves to do, he loves to talk out of his ass and when it fits his purposes, he gets his minions like you to point out 'but Trump wanted to pay soldiers!!!!'.
  20. He's different for sure. His 'I think you should leave' skit show on Netflix at times had me wondering why I was watching it at times, yet other times laughing so hard that I'd wake up my wife from the other room.
  21. Wow, you got me. This is exactly what a sane person would start rambling about when honoring a guy that got shot and killed. You win, so much winning for you.
  22. You see Trump when he posthumously awareded Kirk the Medal of Freedom? I think the best part is when our sane, completely with it president started bragging about how he was better at getting out of the way of bullets than Kirk.
  23. She should go for jail for her silly attempt at 'fraud'. $18,933 in 'ill-gotten gains' over the life of the loan, probably a 30 year loan. so probably around 2500 in gains so far and certainly that has stopped now too. Is it right? No Could it have been a mistake? Yes Do people generally get criminally charged for mortgage fraud? Nope, per the following link, of the 38 people sentenced in 2024 for this, most were for dollar amounts in excess of 550k. Donald Trumps calculated 'ill-gotten gains' for what he did, $354,800,000. I didn't agree with her going after Trump on this. Very large loans are not negotiated the same way as a bank loan which you basically just shop for the best one around and take it. Still though, looking at the facts of each case, you'll see Trump did in fact defraud his bank by lying to them to get a better rate. But.. no one is above the law, or so I'm told. Which is why i'm sure Pulte is going to announce his parents are going to be prosecuted next as they somehow had primary homes in Michigan and Florida. I have this funny feeling the ill gotten gains are significantly more for whatever home the Pultes live in. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/10/us/politics/letitia-james-mortgage-fraud-charges.html
  24. The old school conservative in me, you know the one that hates kids (once they are born). That voice inside of me says we should allow parents to opt out of vaccines, but if an outbreak for something you chose to not vaccinate on happens in your area, you are required to have a 'playdate' with the kids that have the disease. We might lose a few, but with their parents, they probably weren't going to really be that much of a benefit to society. Plus it would help keep herd immunity, so it would be a benefit to the population. I kid, I kid ..... kinda.
  25. If the Tigers don't sign him by winter meetings, they should deal him. This org is serious in that they want to win on their terms with their guys and until those guys are helping the big league club, don't expect any additional help. So if we can get him, maybe 8/350, go for it. But if you can't find a deal that works, no point sending this team out next season without any improvements just to watch us compete for the wildcard again and likely get bounced early. Sucks that we've made it to the divisional series two years in a row, are a relatively young team, and we're told there is no reason to try to improve this team with outside help, it's preferable to wait 2-3 years for the 'calvary'.
