Does that sentiment hold true even if they keep him and miss the playoffs and have only a draft pick instead of two or three potential solid players for 2027 ?
-
Fair point. Which is why Harris is indeed stuck between a rock and a hard place.
-
Additionally it has been mentioned on this board that Skubal is our only true superstar on the roster. Which I agree but in that case doesn’t it mean you have to trade him since you can’t expect to win a championship with only one ? Harris is in a tough spot.
-
I have no idea if Skubal will be traded or not but one thought keeps entering my mind and that is if Detroit has determined they can not or will not pay his Boras price, and I’m sure they have a good idea what that is, then what’s the difference if you lose him this year or next ! Your going to get hammered by fans and the press either way.

Slowly back away from the ledge.
-
Everybody Loves Scooby doo but he is OUR Scooby doo so it will take a "Louisiana Purchase " return to trade him.

Brains are better than physique so it seem you got the better of it..for me "Average Joe" fits a bit too well but as you say 'cie le vie"....

I figured as much and was also joking. I kind of remember the song and probably because I am also a short Man and getting shorter. I never thought 5'10' was short until I walked into bars at 18. But living in Taiwan for seven years I was "tall for awhile" and that was nice. Taller is better for sure. Oh well.

Well that's a broad extrapolation 🤔

Overpaying sets a bad precedent so I doubt a new GM like Harris would do that. As for the Big 5 spenders we can’t compete with their budgets so we have to choose players they are not bidding on or make trades. Just a mid market reality.
-
Harris seems very disciplined with his approach. I doubt we see many trades and all free agent signings under 50 million with the exception of a rare “ check all the boxes “ free agent like Bregman last off season. I don’t think there are any free agents this year that meet that criteria for Harris.
-
Personally I am not interested in any of the Japanese players this year. Imani is too small and too expensive for the risk and the hitters are all bat first DH or so so fielders even at first and we have one of those. Let’s add dual threat players if we can. I’m not paying big dollars for pitching period. I don’t think Harris will either.

pass on Valdez. too old too much $$
-
Do you really think Finnegan will sign for one year and under 10 mil ?
-
I hope you are right and I tend to agree but it would not surprise me either.
-
I think there was some deferred salary so it was closer to 30 something but still yeah he’s gonna want 170 million so that in total he’ll get 200 million that he’s got the hard on for.
-
Considering this is a very plausible evaluation that Harris as a conservative GM might agree combined with the valid argument that paying pitchers 350 million for 8 plus years is fools gold it could lead to trading you know who and just continuing the step by step approach to building a winning team while evaluating the fallout of the new labor agreement

The Bregman buzz 🐝 is heating up but doesn’t it just put Colt Keith on ice developmentally as a DH ? It seems we should just play him at third base and see what we have at this point.

So funny and so true....My kids are in their 20's..need a bike or skateboard ? It reminds of my theory as to why we have a trading deficit with Asia..it's because we have garages.

Al Avila was a dinosaur dealing with far more advanced GM's using analytics. As mentioned above he could have drafted Neto or Mayer for shortstop instead on Jobe or Jung. He signed Baez to bookend with Zimmerman to show he did not know how to sign free agents. When the pressure built he traded Parades for a declining outfielder with a rising salary. He could have built a super left side of our infield. He failed. His game plan was to present us fans many years of terrible baseball and collect number one picks. Anyone could have done that and of course he "hit" on a few. You can "hit" on a few in Vegas and still lose your shirt. Yes he hired Hinch and Garko and I would much prefer having a beer with Al than Scot but Scot is Worlds above Al at building an organization and team and we are lucky Junior got that one right.

Except Olsen is as fragile as toilet paper in a rain storm. He can't stay on the field.
-
That's a head scratcher for Elias for sure who normally grips on his controllable players.
-
I actually think we will and McGonigle will play shortstop. Add Bregman, Devon Williams , Finnigan, King and keep SkUUB.
-
Good news. He was our best hitter through the first half of the season. Solid two hitter.

As usual
