agreed but in a way...so what? if they were in a position to make a cup run then maybe. honestly, did you want them to pay first round picks for depth defensemen this year? i didnt. it was wise not to. the real question is why they are still not in the position to do that, and as you point out, the blame for that lies with yzerman's regime. here's a question about yzerman: he brought in brisebois and verbeek to tampa and helped build a juggernaut. both those guys - especially brisebois, but verbeek has been off to a solid start in anaheim - have been successful elsewhere. perhaps yzerman made the wrong hires in detroit simply to placate the red wings "alumni" club? draper, kronwall, lidstrom, cleary, fischer....perhaps these guys arent good enough? whomever brought you this offseason should be sacked for sure.

i think duren's defense and ausar's shooting will be exploited in the playoffs. heavy doses of doubles for cade. lots of instances where duren gets sucked outside on d and has to move his feet. lots of rotations that leave ausar open to shoot. the playoffs are when coaches really matter. we'll see if JB can step up. the "rah rah" detroit v everybody stuff works in the grind, but not when the other team is actively trying to beat you every night. i think that's when they'll really miss ivey. somebody else who can get his own shot.

i dont disagree with you, although i think he's been better than "fine" in drafting. but the results on the ice are the results on the ice. not good enough.

ottawa signed linas ullmark and we signed cam talbot. i still think this entire season boils down to letting replacing ghost, walman, and perron with tarasenko, motte, and gustafsson. the BIG PICTURE future of the wings hasnt changed and is still on a positive trajectory. but THIS SEASON was a failure because those signings have been awful and the team quit on lalonde.

if soderblom becomes mantha or ras he is a great 6th round pick. that would be an amazing result. i cant ever see him becoming what mantha was when mantha wanted to play hard (which, as we know, didnt occur all that much). but if he becomes a solid third line checking forward who offers a little offense now and then, that's a win. that's much more of an indictment on rasmussen than soderblom considering where they were drafted.
