i'm not convinced about goff. but i did enjoy him playing a very well for much of last season. fwiw, i dont think they will draft a qb high this year. i think they believe in goff as a player and a leader.

i dont think much of prospect lists anymore. i enjoy reading about prospects (which is certainly why they make the lists), but after years of seeing guys on such lists be total busts, im not convinced they mean anything. i remember chris illitch crowing about all our prospects because they were on some lists. what did that get us? nothing. im looking forward to the new crew and hope they can develop talent better than the old crew. that's all we can hope for now. lists schmists.

if the lions think they can develop richardson (or levis...or hooker) into a top qb in 3 years they should draft one of them.

any football player that isnt tom brady or a player who has earned generational money should NEVER take a discount to play anywhere. football players' careers are so short, they should get all the money they can as quick as they can get it. because it is over very soon for 90% of them.

if they want a qb to be a clipboard holder, take a flyer on one late and pray he works out. if they want a qb prospect, take one early. the more i read and think about the qbs in this draft, i would go against my ohio state bias and take stroud. he's big, he's accurate, and he showed a lot in that georgia game of being able to move and create. young is a better college qb but he's really too small for the nfl. levis is too much of a risk. richardson has a very high ceiling but ticks all of the boxes for mitch trubisky 2.0 (lack of starts, poor accuracy). they wont have a shot at stroud unless they trade up and i'd rather have them take defensive players if one is there. like most of you, i think holmes has earned our trust so i'm ok with what he does.

the lions had one of the worst defenses in the league last year. they need major upgrades at almost every position, but especially cornerback and linebacker. some of that will hopefully come from improvements to young players. but not all of it. they need a lot more talent in the back seven to compete. hopefully they get two starters out of day one and holmes finds a couple diamonds in the rough in the later rounds. im not counting on levi for anything. i thinknhe gets cut or an injury settlement. they'll need multiple dts. im not counting on okudah to be anything more than serviceable. walker is coming back from missing an entire year to injury. jacobs was ok, but nothing more than that. they need upgrades almost everywhere on defense.

late round flyers on qbs fail 90% of the time. remember brad kayaa and jake rudock and kellen moore? if youre taking someone to be a glorified clipboard holder and potential emergency 3rd qb, then ok. but 9 times out of 10, youre getting nothing and would be better off with sudfeld. yeah yeah yeah brock purdy. brock purdy is a product of kyle shanahan, imo.

johnson must have a lot of faith in himself to come back, or maybe not a lot of faith in himself as a head coach? the lions are one jared goff injury away from having a really bad offense. strike while the iron is hot. take the money and run. otoh, he may feel he's not ready to be an nfl head coach? that might show a level of self awareness most individuals dont possess.

pronman has his u-23 rankings out. wings well represented but only seider in the borderline elite category. i like pronman because he's a prolific writer and always puts out content, but there is no way to differentiate between a lot of these guys and no way he's scouted them all thoroughly. i take his rankings and ratings with a big grain of salt and the way he ranks them "poor, nhl average, nhl above averge" seems so random. he has about 100 players with almost the exact same ratings.
