  1. as someone pointed out already, luhnow is in the ownership group who just bought a lower level soccer team in mexico and a second division team in spain. that might keep him busy. not sure what his role is on those teams.
  2. the tigers did not have to trade verlander or martinez. verlander was under contract for two more years. the real criticism i have is not that they traded them, but the very poor return they got, especially for martinez. one can argue that the verlander return was decent on paper, but the martinez trade was abysmal and universally panned at the time. you dont have to trade him just to trade him. they chose to take that return because avila considered it a good return. the cubs just chose to let wilson contreras walk foe a draft pick rather than take what was offered. is that better than dealing martinez for junk rather than keeping him? dunno.
  3. i bet someone thought they were in 1998.
  4. jeff weaver? brandon inge? cody ross? rob fick?!?!?!?
  5. prodigy, "smack my bitch up."
  6. the nets make the lakers look loveable.
  7. wait a second, arent you angry that the guy who built this AMAZING farm system full of future lou whitakers, alan trammells and jack morris just got fired? you've been telling all of us for the past two weeks how wrong we are and that the tigers system is awesome and full of future stars, and the guy who built it is fired. arent you pissed? 😉
  8. at this point i wouldnt want theo epstein. go get the next theo epstein. look at the orioles, they went out and got a guy who headed scouting for the cardinals and then moved to houston. now theyre a viable team for the first time in 20 years. as many have said here, look to tampa, LA, Houston, St Louis. teams that have been continually successful and have reinvented themselves many times. the lazy thing to do would be to promote from within, which is why i expect him ti do that. but then again, i didnt expect him to fire avila so what do i know?
  9. theo epstein is not coming to detroit.
  10. 1) hooray! 2) about fucking time. 3) now they have some hope.
  11. i cant wait until david chadd is promoted to gm.
  12. no "stand by your man?"
  13. the thing i like about campbell is that he took over the offense last year and it got better. he also went for it a lot on 4th down and comes from a good coaching tree. i was telling my wife last night that i hate feeling good about the lions because they always let me down. the patricia era was easy because i knew they sucked and i hated quinntricia, but i like campbell and i like holmes so i want them to do well. so it'll suck when they break my heart again.
  14. tork in toledo looks exactly like tork in detroit. 197/293/364
  15. chris shelton or jd martinez....the tigers world is watching.
  16. hbo max is awesome. i love it.
  17. hey, i think Al has been horrible. my only point was that this particular failure this year was a bit unforeseeable. not unforeseeable in that they didnt have a winning record or make the playoffs but unforeseeable to have fallen off the cliff so badly. but i agree that the lack of talent in the system is a direct indictment on the guy who has been in charge of it since 2015-16 and was a major part of it even before then. all this talk of "re-doing rhe system" in the last few years shouldnt save him either. what took him so long? and the results havent been that good as to make a huge difference. if avila isnt AT LEAST kicked uostairs aftet this year you really have to wonder about illitch's ability to run the organization. i mean, i already do but that would just confirm it for me.
  18. i dont want to defend avila because i think he should have been fired after the jd martinez trade, but this season really has been a bit unforeseen. meadows' injury, candy and schoop falling into oblivion offensively, all your pitching injuries belonging to us...it really has been a catastrophe of biblical proportions. im wondering when the frogs are going to start falling out of the sky at comerica. what i cant understand is how the hitting coach hasnt been fired yet.
  19. i dont necessarily think the league should do anything for what players do in their private lives. that's why we have a criminal and civil justice system. unless the player is deemed to be a threat to others in the organization, what they do on their time is their own business. but i am an outlier in this, for sure.
  20. what about cephus? he was accused, denied it, went to criminal court and won an aquittal. is that enough? watson was sued in civil court, then criminal charges were taken to two grand juries, both of which did not choose to indict him. what's the difference? because a jury believed cephus and not the women? a grand jury didnt think watson committed a crime, so should be be suspended for effectively two years? billups came into the league in 97 and was accused of rape the same year. should he have been suspenses for a year because someone accused him of rape? its a difficult question to answer for any league.
  21. if you do, you'll have to sign him to a huge deal. darius leonard money. not sure you want to put that kind of money in the basket of an off ball linebacker. which is probably why the bears are shopping him. resource allocation. the bears will have the most cap space in the league next year and they arent going to use it on him. the lions seem like they will have cap space; however, a lot of it is going to be used up with raises coming to players already on the roster. not sure you want to spend $20m per year and $55m guaranteed on a linebacker in today's nfl. otoh, smith is one of the best lbs in the league and fills a definite position of need. bears will want a #2 pick, of course. would you give up a 2 and a 5? or a 3?
  22. how about quintez cephus? are you ok with him being on the lions? chauncey billups with the pistons?
