  1. how many chances does avila get to rebuild this team? it is amazing that anyone thinks avila deserves the shot to tear this down and rebuild it. i cant believe illitch would be that stupid.
  2. yeah, we might trade him for a young, cost controlled pitcher. not sure where we could find one of those. trading skubal makes little sense to me for a team that's far away like detroit. it makes even less sense for the tigers who were supposedly done rebuilding, let the guy who built this tire fire of a team then trade it away and build another one. that seems like a recipe for continued failure.
  3. you realize who is doing the shopping, right?
  4. that would be incredibly stupid.
  5. from what ive heard, oregon and washington dont bring much to the table money-wise and may actually be a drag on the conference. seems hard to believe but that's what's been out there. and we all know the next expansion is all about notre dame.
  6. but all those people in new jersey and new york really care about college football now! got the btn onto nyc cable? i dont know if that's actually true or not. but expanding to rutgers and maryland was really dumb.
  7. the nets rebuilt completely from yhe ground up after the disaster of the garnett/pierce trade. they brought in a great coaching staff, stuck to a philosophy, and began to build a winning culture. then they tore it all down to sign an injured durant and a petulant shit in kyrie. and then doubled down by trading for fat james harden. topped it off with a ridiculous coaching hire. they made this bed and now they can sit and die in it.
  8. grossman is hitting .366 against lhp this season.
  9. i think this could very well be the issue.
  10. he was sent down the first time for a reason. that has not improved since he came back. if anything, its gotten worse. i'm fine with playing whomever because the season is over, but i suspect the reason grossman is playing is because he gives them a better chance to win than any of the other alternatives. or it could be a matchup thing. baddoo should really be in triple a honing his craft rather than at the majors struggling. is it really conducive to his future to be here at this point? its possible the tigers are picking and choosing their spots to play him depending on the matchup and what they think he needs to work on. i dont know if thats true but it seems like a plausible explanation to me.
  11. this board has clamored for a variety of minor leaguers to be brought up to the big club, and every time they are finally called up they proceed to suck. baddoo and clemens being the best examples. hill also. you can throw torkelson in there as well. greene has been ok but his lack of major league time was due to injury. grossman is playing because there are no major league ready alternatives in the organization and meadows is injured. that's it. that's the reason. he hits higher up in the lineup because historically he has been an on base machine and the lineup is so bad that his current .312 obp puts him in the top third of tigers hitters. the chances are very good that anyone they brought up from toledo would be worse than grossman. once september comes around and the team is still in last place, perhaps we'll see some minor leaguers get a shot. or perhaps meadows will be back. until then, grossman is probably the best choice they have. sadly.
  12. package them to the same team? is there a team that would have room to add three slightly above average relief pitchers to its roster? and if there is, is that a team actually in contention? i'd keep lange and soto but would trade fulmer if i could. problem is, like chas said, youre not going to get anything for them other than a lottery ticket guy. you might as well keep the lottery tickets you already have. unless theo epstein is advising some team and telling them to sell decent prospects for average to bad pitching.
  13. here's one thing about that trade: it will make the flames' position really weird come trade deadline next year. they should have enough to be in a prime spot to make the playoffs next year, but its already clear huberdeau doesnt want to sign there. so they're going to be right back next year where they were last year: superstar players who wont re-sign. do you ride it out with huberdeau next year and try to make a run and let hin walk? or deal him at the deadline for futures even though youre in the hunt? i think they'll keep him and end up giving up tkachuk for only a late first rounder from florida in 2 years. its a tough call if youre a team like calgary.
  14. akil baddoo has an ops+ of 6. as a corner outfielder. yeah, aj hinch is an idiot for not playing that guy. lol.
  15. contreras is the best catcher on the market and will not be cheap to obtain. i would love to see them sign contreras in the offseason on a 2-3 yeae deal if possible.
  16. i dont have mlb.tv. its the directv free preview.
  17. mlb free preview. i dont know how you guys listen to the tigers broadcast. i watch the twins feed so i dont have to listen to them.
  18. you guys off the dillon dingler bandwagon already?
  19. yeah, but franklin perez, daz cameron, and jake rogers.
  20. when you're one of the highest paid state employees in ohio, there's no rush to leave.
  21. you would take huberdeau and weegan over tkachuk and gaudreau? i think calgary did really well in the tkachuk trade if their goal was to be competitive next year. but are they really better than last year? and there will be a lot of pressure on them not to let this happen again next year, so they will be asked to either overpay huberdeau on term or trade him at the deadline lest they get nothing for him.
  22. and the division just got THAT much tougher.
  23. holy cow calgary. that's quite a haul. there is no way the wings could have or should have matched that.
