  1. vikings 31 Lions 27 close, but not there yet.
  2. i'd put steph at 2 behind giannis.
  3. sure, but is denver happy with russell wilson? how's baker mayfield doing? teams dont usually deal great qbs unless they are broken or about to be. deshaun watson is an obvious exception but had...ummm...other things going on. as was pointed out in other threads, the ravens can franchise lamar rather than lose him if they so choose. or you can trade more picks than denver got for russell wilson in order to get him. and no, i dont think trading goff means they get less picks. for every trubisky and lance, there is a jalen hurts. i'm sure the chargers are good with herbert and the chiefs like mahomes. the bills probably arent dealing josh allen and trevor lawrence is looking pretty nice. even tua is better this year. i dont think the lions MUST draft a qb. and i do think the bust rate on highly drafted qbs is higher than people think, but i always assumed the plan was to draft a develop a qb once the team had enough talent in place to make the transition easier. and to keep goff as a holding place starter for a year while that development occurred. last year would have been the ideal time to do it but the qb class was rated poorly. so maybe next year is the time? whatever the decision is, i trust holmes to make it....as long as it isnt a second round pick. not even brad holmes has been able to avoid that curse. 🙂
  4. lots of risk in drafting a qb for sure, but there's risk in getting a higher paid older qb as well. and what drafting a qb allows you to do is to spend money on other positions while that qb is on his rookie deal at less than market value. trading multiple first for a known commodity not only costs you the cap space to sign him, but also takes away multiple players (through the draft picks) who are potentially below market value talent. you can manipulate the salary cap for a while, but it does exist.
  5. athletic preview
  6. he would cost you two first round picks and simon edvinsson.
  7. but what available qb? if the decision comes down to trading three or four first round picks for lamar jackson or trading three or four first round picks to move up for bryce young.... is this lions team with lamar jackson a super bowl contender?
  8. because he's been poor throwing deep balls. he also has no mobility and we can see how valuable that can be (like against philly). goff has been serviceable so far. that's an improvement over last year so that's a positive. and really, the issue with this team so far is not the offense, its the defense. it has been enjoyable to watch a lions team with a reallt good coaching staff and front office for the first time since....hmmmm....that's a tough one.
  9. casimir, playing out the string. just like the orioles....i mean white sox.
  10. soderblum has exceptional hands. hopefully he cant move some of that to his feet.
  11. suspended for a year. that was an awfully expensive piece of ass.
  12. utah had really fallen behind on their "big white guy" quota. olynk proved too valuable to pass up.
  13. i think that's a testament to how good aaron glenn is. they've schemed a ton of pressure on teams. blitzes are getting home and seem to surprise other teams. i cant see him being here next year because he'll be in line for a head coaching job. other than harris' strip sack on wentz, i dont remember too many plays where lions pass rushers immediately beat a guy off the ball and got to the qb. all 3 of hutch's sacks were either schemed (his third came on a stunt up the middle), or were clean up sacks where he was blocked but just kept coming and coverage held up. which is nice to think about the lions coverage holding up, which is also a testament to glenn, imo. two game caveats apply, of course. but i still see hutch as a "hard worker" who does what he's asked, crushes the pocket, and plays solid positional defense more than a natural bendy pass rusher who beats nfl left tackles with speed regularly. the lions could still use that guy.
  14. saben wasnt much of anything anyway.
  15. did he pull a delonte west and bone lebron's mom?
  16. cant be dipping your pen in the company ink.
  17. watch out or he'll start asking where the beef is.
  18. watching tristan mackenzie blow away white sox hitters with 96 mph in the 8th. why cant we draft guys like that?
  19. he is the weakest link, goodbye!
  20. that doesnt mean he cant be an exception to the rule. he's shorter and smaller than cooper kupp but he could be a "cooper kupp" type receiver.
  21. i think st brown isnt a top 10 receiver in the nfl because he's small and plays in the slot. top nfl receivers are big guys who can beat you over the top. that said, he's a really good slot receiver and the lions use him really well. i think it will be interesting to see if he gets even more looks when they get a burner like jameson williams into the lineup.
  22. i once worked with a girl who did PR briefly for the avalanche. she said bob cole tried to hit on her before a broadcast once. she declined.
  23. chris davis says hi.
  24. that's multiple acl's for fabbri. i dont expect anything from him if he comes back.
