  1. nagy looked great when he had andy reid and patrick mahomes. when he went to chicago he was terrible, and the bears offense was better when he gave up play calling duties.
  2. lotteries do not eliminate tanking: see the nba. only getting rid of the draft entirely or having a true system that punishes teams for failure (like relegation) will do that. if your goal is to end tanking - or reduce it - in a fashion in keeping with the traditions of american sport and politically possible with themz then increase the number of teams who can make the playoffs.
  3. super bowl winning coach gets hired = moar racism.
  4. call me skeptical that" cant we all just get along" will work as a judicial philosphy.
  5. i dont know if it would have changed their mind. but like mb says, there is a big difference between one unsubstantiated allegation in a case that was dropped and mutliple allegations of all types of wrongdoings. there is an issue with black coaches not being hired, eric bienemy shouldnt be the poster boy for that.
  6. saber guys bug me, so smug. but maybe that's because they wont let me into their cool parties? (actually that's not true. i've been very drunk with many of them.)
  7. i'd probably put cobb ahead of aaron too. but i'd put bonds ahead of both of them. williams is interesting because he missed significant time to two wars. if he hadnt, he might be #1 on the list. but ruth (and robinson) are both highly rated not only because they were great players, but also because they transcended the game. they were more than just baseball players. in that way both are a bit overrated, especially robinson.
  8. the wings beating the flyers was the happiest ive ever been as a sports fan. i was too young for 1984 (only 12). i remember 1984. i remember being happy, but was too young to appreciate it because i hadnt lived with the pain of losing (although i do remember losing out in 83 to the orioles and 81 to the brewers). the bad boys beating the celtics and michael jordan was probably more meaningful than actually winning the title. the 2004 team was fun but not the same as isiah finally getting them over the hump. the lions? well....tbd. michigan winning in 97 was right up there in great moments, but strangely enough, beating ohio state this year was just as satisfying. after waiting so long and nobody giving them a shot, to finally do it was very satisfying. but the wings finally winning it when i was in my mid 20s and had gone through the pain of being so terrible, then be so good and never winning, and then getting manhandled by the devils and upset by the avs and everyone thinking we'll never win and then no one giving them a chance against lindros and the legion of doom and then finally doing it. that was the best. the best ive ever felt as a sports fan.
  9. youre really straining to defend eric bienemy. i'll remember that the next time you go off on how no nfl team should sign kareem hunt.
  10. they didnt know about the patricia stuff.
  11. you do???? no way! i think the opposite. also not a surprise. lol
  12. the mainstream media overrates jeter, the saber community underrates him. he'a too high on that espn list, but he still belongs on the list. he had a great career, even if he should have been "younted" off shortstop when arod got there. arod should be higher on that list. bonds too. pedro is too high (even though he's better than koufax), harper doesnt belong on it at all. ortiz is too high. gerhringer too low. cobb is just about right. its funny that ruth at #1 is controversial now, but it is what it is. swap him with mays if youre concerned about defense and our supposed ability to track things like "runs saved" now.
  13. how do you prove something like that? i think we've all been in interviews where we knew were werent getting the job. half the thing is getting your name out there, that youre interested in moving up and - in the case of nfl assistants - getting your name on people's radars.
  14. i thought it was funny how the next generation of podcasters and writers were up in arms about derrick rose being signed while also genuflecting at how awesome chauncey billups was. ummmm...you all know chauncey paid off a woman who accused him of sexual assault, right?
  15. sorry, i should have said i think the educational opportunities offered to whites that black coaches may not have had is not the reason.
  16. i dont think thats the issue. white college football coaches arent any smarter than anyone else. i think the issue is getting qualified candidates in the pipeline. the lack of black candidates came from years of discrimination and not allowing them to coach. now you have more candidates slowly working their way through the system and more are getting hired. the nfl is trying to incentivize their hiring and that's a good thing. i think you'll see more of them hired in the future.
  17. and? eric bienemy was part of a cover up of sexual assault at colorado. you complain constantly about michigan's dr anderson problem but you want bienemy to be a head coach? dont be a hypocrite. sometimes black guys dont get hired for reasons other than their skin color.
  18. that was 1987...
  19. amd i dont think that should automatically mean bienemy doesnt get a job. the past is the past and if he's moved on and wont do that stuff again, it shouldnt be held against him. that said, i can see why a pr conscious nfl team wouldnt hire him because of it.
  20. i thought i explained this before about bienemy. he has a past that includes multiple duis, allegations that he physically assaulted women, and was part of a coaching staff that covered up sexual assault violations at colorado. you like to talk about banning players and coaches for past allegations, and you are all about eric bienemy? if bienemy hasnt gotten a job its not because he's black, its because he's got a rap sheet a mile long.
  21. they have one decent defenseman. seider. the rest are below replacement level, and that includes hronek. what happened to stetcher? is he hurt?
  22. meh on staal. he's fine but they could definitely use an upgrade. he's old and slow. the kings are fast and ran circles around this team again. every line but larkin's got left in the dust. they could barely get the puck into the kings' zone, much less do anything with it. the wings play the toughest schedule in the league in the second half. our lottery position is about to get much much better.
  23. i'm sure the same contract will be on the table.
  24. oesterle missed the puck and gave up a 2 on 1.
  25. rumors of matt nagy as the new oc? please lord no.
