  1. yes a multiple woman money grab. were talking past each other so i'm gonna bow out.
  2. im not saying that at all. you are under the assumption that im saying she shouldnt get any money because she is lying. im not saying that. i think this is a money grab even if she is telling the truth. if it wasnt a money grab, she would have gone to the police and had him arrested. instead, she went to a lawyer to make her money. it doesnt mean she's lying (although she could be). i had a case where our client was a large motel chain. they passed a "human trafficking" law in this particular state that says hotels are legally responsible if someone is "trafficked" in their establishment. so if a cheap motel has prostitution occurring in it (and most do), they could be civilly liable to the prostitute. same thing for the platform on which she was "trafficked" (they sued facebook craigslist, etc etc). this particular girl was being "trafficked," aka being pimped, by some local dude. he was arrested and got like 20 years. she founnd a very large and successful plaintiffs firm to take the case. she got a very nice settlement in the millions of dollars. all of a sudden, 20+ girls came out of the woodwork claiming they too were "trafficked." same thing with watson. one girl says he did x, gets with a very successful plaintiff's lawyer (tony buzbee, who once ran for governor) and then they extort money from watson and all of her friends come to get in on the game too. its how they play the game. and how they get rich. happens all the time.
  3. the criminal system should reflect society's values for placing punishment for a crime. honestly, its not the victim's decision, it should be the decision of the state to place its violent defenders behind bars and to place a proper punishment for the crime. the victim relies on the state to provide judicial and police services. its not an either/or proposition, the victim of the crime should let the state know of the crime. if the victim just goes to their lawyer (or the lawyer finds them because the lawyer wants money or publicity - see watson, deshaun) and only wants a civil remedy, its because its a money grab. like most of american jurisprudence. its an industry designed to make the participants - plaintiff and defense attorneys but mostly plaintiffs - money. as to criminal law, too often the state merely lets people go in large cities because of overcrowding, or gives people a harsh sentence because of politics, or other things. but the question isnt what the victim "should" do, its what the state should do.
  4. report that the wings, canadiens, and leafs are still scouting dylan cozens.
  5. the criminal system isnt designed to "do good" for the victims, its designed to establish appropriate punishment for behaviors society deems abhorrent. the civil system is designed to adjudicate disputes and provide the appropriate remuneration to make one party "whole" who has been injured by another. what does "whole" mean? $20 million for my "mental anguish"? my "suffering"? i'm cynical. ive seen the worst abuses of the system. but that's the system we have now. and this - like all civil cases - is a money grab because it is an attempt to make money off an event that may or may not have occurred.
  6. were talking about different things. i dont know if he did what they say he did. but i DO know that they want MONEY for what they say he did. to me, that's a money grab. if you were assaulted, then go to the police. why does he owe you money? why didnt you just go to the police? why hire a civil lawyer at all if it werent about money? i know, i know, that's unrealistic in today's day and age in the most litigious society the world has ever seen. but that's how i feel after having worked in this industry for years. ive seen many many many sexual abuse cases. many are legit (although i really question the damages people get for them, but thats another story for another post), but many, many, MANY are not. the general public would be surprised at how many fraudulent schemes there are out there to make money through legal abuse off companies and their insurers. check out the RICO suits in new york against plaintiff attorneys and their doctors if you are curious.
  7. psssssst....its a money grab. its always a money grab. deshaun watson was a money grab. this is a money grab too. if it werent a money grab, just go to the police and have him arrested and let the criminal justice system work.
  8. im kind of mad the wings only have one more game before this two week 4 nations stuff kicks off. i want nhl hockey!
  9. never been impressed with shroeder. seems like a head case and selfish.
  10. would you have done that deal for duren? as you've said before, they either need to pay duren or move him soon.
  11. bring the post up big man back into the game? just a thought.
  12. what about shrinking the paint?
  13. i got a feeling chet is always going to be hurt.
  14. lucas raymond currently sits 19th in the nhl in points. at 22, he is the youngest player in the top 49 players in points. and he's 19th!
  15. **** defense by ausar. lucky shot, but if he just stays in front or near him it doesnt happen.
  16. i hope the warriors lose and implode. but now they'll probably win a championship because life isnt fair. see lions, detroit.
  17. wtf are the bulls doing?
  18. i was beginning to have my doubts too. and this may be us getting too excited about winning a lot of close games and that worm will eventually turn. but for now, viva el stevie! raymond and seider developing into stars has been the biggest development to me. they desperately needed that. and at 8 mil aav!
  19. why? why cant they just trade for butler without doing anything with beal? oh yeah, the salary cap and all its minute, ridiculous rules and subrules.
  20. people getting traded for tax and luxury tax purposes, not because of basketball reasons. people traded into cap space or max exceptions and not traded because they bring 3pt shooting or rebounding. its almost all cap moves and money stuff. some of the big trades are fun, the other stuff seems hung up on financial details. like, jimmy butler wants out, but phoenix cant trade for him because they cant aggregate salaries and fit him into cap holds and exceptions and blah blah blah.
  21. the nba salary cap rules really have ruined a lot of the fun of the sport.
  22. check the last 15 or so posts before yours. 😉
  23. first of all, its not enough money. cozens makes $7 mil. he has 10 goals in 53 games. just like andrew copp. now, he had one season where he scored 30. he's only 23. in a sense he fits their timeline as a #2 center. but if i'm making that kind of deal and taking on that kind of money, i dont know if i'm giving up a first. otoh, someone else might. and buffalo isnt giving him up without getting a first in return. if stevie thinks he is a true #2 center, then a #1 plus berggren and velenonis a steal.
  24. saw it on twitter. i dont listen to detroit sports radio.
  25. who is this person we just traded for?
