I honestly think Bert needs to work his way up the lineup from the fourth line with how he has been playing. Just get in position to make simple plays and then we can give you some PP time, etc...
-
Vrana is up to 4 goals in his last 5 games in Grand Rapids, maybe rounding into form a bit? Edvinsson has continued his good play as well so that's great to see. Another interesting graph:

I think Raty has more potential than any of those players in that offer but also not a sure thing. But then again I don't really have a great view of player value I guess, I'm swinging back to Beavillier most likely being a negative addition with the cap hit he has so I've been all over in my thinking.

Hmmm... 25 year old former first round pick who doesn't seem to have a ton of points (Islanders though), former high second round pick with a little pedigree who is about .5 ppg at 20 years old in the AHL, and a protected first round pick.... interesting. I wonder if something like Veleno, Berggren (and/or Lombardi), and a non-protected 1st round pick would have gotten it done for the Wings. edit: misread Beauvillier's stats or something because looking back at him, probably would have needed Rasmussen instead of Veleno there to have a chance at the very least

I thought the play that Edvinsson made on the Vrana goal was pretty nifty if not a little lucky, really like how he won the puck here before dishing it: Soderblom had two goals, and Matt Luff is back! -

He annoys the hell out of me Get Bertuzzi off the top line and off the power play, he can't make any plays
-
Despite a lot of power play time for both teams, so far this Isles game is a snoozer (which they must be loving)
-
I don't think it was in the plans at all but with how the season has gone after the signings and the media chatter I wouldn't be shocked if those changed. With how much I've thought/talked about it the most likely thing is just that he re-signs I'm sure haha

Well Horvat was a 9th pick overall so by that logic wouldn't Kasper be a better prospect than him? I think that just shows that not all draft slots are created equal. You're probably right as far as his chances of becoming that good but for me Kasper has shown enough that I think it is a worthy gamble to hold onto him. He's shown good work ethic and plays a responsible game in the SHL against adults at age 18. He's currently on pace to be slightly ahead of Mika Zibanejad's age 18 season PPG: https://www.quanthockey.com/shl/en/player-age/18-year-old-shl-players.html His points are similar to Raymond's last SHL season and he's a year younger than Raymond was and Kasper is playing center. I also think he passes the eye test from what I've seen. He has really good skating and puck protection. His shot seems to be improving as well. Right now I see him as a potential top end second line center with a small chance to be a good 1C with more great development. That's tough to find so I am clinging to that for all I can until the Wings get some more depth in their system. To your last point, I imagine the Canucks would be interested in Rasmussen with how he has been improving especially as a local boy, but I agree they wouldn't want the rest. I think we all need to forget McIsaac's name he is awful in Grand Rapids. All those injuries really kept him from developing his defensive game he seems lost. I imagine Veleno is seen as useful to most teams but probably isn't much more than a throw in at this point. Honestly if it were me I do not trade for Horvat and I trade Larkin before this deadline. Horvat in and Larkin out feels like cycling deck chairs at the end of the day, and I can't imagine the Wings paying both of them 1C money but maybe they would? It would absolutely suck to lose their current best offensive player by trading Larkin, and it sets back the rebuild a bit, but I would rather do that than pay him like $10 million for 8 years. But then again I have no idea what he's really after moneywise.

I would be willing to part with anyone in the organization that isn't Marco Kasper, Seider, or Raymond. I would be hesitant on some other guys (and I'd like to sign Walman to an extension for example before exploring a trade) but would move them in the right deal. For some reason the vibe I get with Horvat is that it is going to be an overpay to acquire him.
-
Ya you nailed it, he looks reallllllly stiff and always seems a few steps too late to where he needs to be.
-
I thought it looked offside in real time myself but apparently not!
-
I feel like I never see Bertuzzi really doing much of anything anymore. Wings are tied in the third, they've taken the lead then given up the tying goal quickly the entire game
-
I would lose my mind if they were able to get Timo, I love his game.

The puck protection clip gives me serious Zetterberg vibes (just the style!!!) -

Red Wings looking for a Head Coach

I get what you're saying on one hand, but on the other the hardass approach doesn't work for every player....and no one deserves to be mentally abused at their place of employment. When Chris Chelios thinks you've gone too far...you've probably gone too far. I know it is the thing to label younger generations as woke and too soft but I think that just says more about the old days and the people who pine for them. -
Trading Dylan Larkin? Is it insane? Or..........
slothfacekilla replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in Detroit Red Wings
Eh he's a solid player and I don't think your estimation that he makes the Wings players better is wrong (makes sense, he is going to help the less talented roster of Detroit) but I personally am not looking to pay him like a Brayden Point or Matthew Barzal. I think it is quite a leap to say that he'd be a perennial point leader when his highest point total in his career is 73 points. Over the last 5 seasons he's 48th in total points, so he would have to make quite the jump based on these theoretical new linemates. I guess it isn't impossible, but that's a lot of faith to put into the hypothetical if you're giving him $10 million plus a season. I'd be willing to go around $9 million since the cap is supposed to go up a little bit, so ballpark of those two guys above, but anything more is going to really handicap the team imo. Can't pay him like a top center because he just isn't a top center in the league in my mind. I think he's right on the fringe of a middle of the road/lower end 1C. Maybe Yzerman is completely low-balling him but just based off of Dylan's own comments in the past I would be shocked if he wanted to be highly compensated for his lackluster time in Detroit. Yzerman has been able to get deals done with pretty much every other one of the free agents he wanted, so I dunno. Obviously this is all just speculation and my opinion. -

Welp. If there is any truth to this then it has to be coming from Dylan's agent. I am not too shocked. Reading between the lines in his comments and general demeanor I feel like Larkin is asking the Wings for way more than he is worth. I can't fault him for wanting to get paid (especially after having some tough years in Detroit) but it is going to have to be from some other crappy team overpaying him I imagine. Should be interesting to see how this plays out approaching the trade deadline... -
IIt is really looking like the Wings would have been best served unloading Bert a season or two ago. I don't think he's looked good at all this season and he is a walking injury all of a sudden.

Red Wings looking for a Head Coach

To me, both sides suck in that situation. Babcock really did not like Commodore and definitely did not help his career. Commodore also seems wayyyyyyyyy bitter over a lot of things and has had some wild drunken twitter rants about Babcock that have not made Commodore look good. I think LS has it right. -
I am encouraged that he made a confident deke at the blueline to set that up, hopefully this gets some momentum going for him.

The only thing I can guess at is that they need scoring at the AHL level, but it looks like they're in 7th place in their division so still seems random. I guess Criscuolo's cap hit is around $100k less than Weatherby and the Sharks have less than a million bucks in cap space, so this could offer slight flexibility in the event of a call up but that's probably grasping at straws. This at least helps the Wings with the veteran logjam in the AHL too, hopefully no more Vrana scratches.

Red Wings acquire forward Jasper Weatherby from San Jose Sharks Exchanged for forward Kyle Criscuolo, Weatherby recorded 11 points in 50 games with Sharks during 2021-22 season Weatherby is 24 and Criscuolo is older so I guess it is just getting younger in the AHL?
