  1. I also didn't realize this but it makes sense, DeBrincat spent his last season on the second line with his center being a rookie in Shane Pinto. Tough to play over Tkachuk I guess. Moving to a new team and a new system and having his role diminished playing with lesser players, I'm kinda shocked he put up as many points as he did. He isn't a flawless player but he's still valuable to a team I would think. I can't wait to see what DeBrincat gets traded for because it feels like it could be all over the spectrum and I really don't know what to expect.
  2. Both Marek and Friedman said on their podcast they expect DeBrincat to end up in Detroit, one hold up is that Yzerman doesn't like the full term of DeBrincat's desired contract.
  3. This is an absolutely wild comparison. DeBrincat shot the second lowest shooting percentage of his career with his worst PDO. His average time on ice dropped almost two minutes a game too, a pretty large chunk. His underlying possession numbers were still really good and he put up 66 points and 27 goals on his "bad" season. People acting like he's a bum at 25 years old after an unlucky season is crazy to me. I definitely agree his trade value is seriously diminished because he needs a long term deal that not many teams can afford and he told Ottawa he won't re-sign there, but I think y'all are going too hard on this idea that he is a nobody away from Patrick Kane. Kane's points seriously dropped away from DeBrincat (35 point decrease!) so where's the argument that Kane needed DeBrincat? I'm trying to find the other players that Kane beefed up points-wise on the Blackhawks last season before his trade to New York and I am also coming up empty there. Surely if DeBrincat was just a product of Kane someone would have stepped in and taken his place?
  4. I would be shocked if Cross Hanas moved the needle more than Zadina (or at all) for any team. FWIW it is Frank Seravalli who floated the rumor that he doesn't think the Sens will be able to get a significant roster player and that Zadina is the best they can do. So I've just been building off of that for my ideas.
  5. Elliotte Friedman (who is on record saying that he hates floating Red Wings rumors so I usually perk up when he mentions Detroit) wondered on his last podcast if Detroit is one of the teams checking in on Konecny from the Flyers. 26 years old, 2 years left on his deal at $5.5 million a year. 61 points in 60 games on a really bad Flyers team last year is pretty impressive, though he doesn't seem to be consistent points-wise throughout his career. I thought he was a little bigger than he is, but it might not be a bad "budget" option for a trade.
  6. Today ESPN proposed 17, Mazur and Vancouver's second round pick the Wings own this draft for DeBrincat
  7. New theoretical trades from me for fun... Debrincat for Zadina and a future top 10 protected first round pick, throw in a later pick at some point if it helps get it done PLD for this draft's two first round picks, Berggren and Wallinder I don't actually love the idea of acquiring PLD. He's a really good player but he seems...moody and it will cost a lot if you have an extension in place with him I'm sure. If he would want to be in Detroit then I would trust Yzerman's read but he has been a headache for both the franchises he's played for so far. I wonder how much this opening up of the PLD sweepstakes is the Jets trying to make Montreal pay more. edit the more I think about it that's too much for PLD I think. Maybe if Hellybuyk wants to be here he could get included. I feel pretty good about the DeBrincat one.
  8. Put in Osgood now you cowards! I have been watching a ton of old Red Wings footage on awood's youtube and it is making me appreciate Osgood a lot, he had some really big moments for the team. I'm all for him getting in the hall after originally being ambivalent about it.
  9. The rumor I've seen is that only Detroit and Nashville from his list have cap space for him, but who knows how accurate the info is as far as teams approved.
  10. I wonder how true this is or if it is the other teams negotiating via the media. I would be shocked if they couldn't get Beggren over Zadina in this scenario (or didn't want that).
  11. I remember being very confused about that trade for Vancouver. Garland is a solid player and they were able to dump some overpaid players, but the players they gave up all only had one year left on their contracts I think. OEL had been pretty bad in Arizona already and that contract was ugly. Giving up 9th overall to make it happen was a real head scratcher for me.
  12. I largely agree with you here but this was also right after Rasmussen's season ending injury I think, and that was a huge blow to the team. I hope he picks up next season where he left off preinjury as he does a lot of positive things for the team and would be a huge boost to get back. He isn't going to take on the Sens all by himself but the Wings definitely missed him. Hopefully him + some graduating prospects can accelerate their timeline a bit.
  13. 4 more years of Karlsson with a NMC would be tough to stomach, I wonder what the retention and the rest of the deal would look like
  14. I still feel like the Wings are ways away from making a playoff run. Florida had the benefit of Bobrovsky playing out of his mind for the early series, and legitimate stars like Tkachuk scoring timely goals. I don't see either of those elements on the Wings team right now, but maybe that's just me. They need a lot more scoring depth to consider any sort of run I think.
  15. 3 years @ $7.142 caphit is a crazy steal for a point per game player that is still only 26 you're theoretically getting what old school people consider players' prime. I'm honestly trying to think of comparable trades recently. I'm guessing you can get more than Eichel fetched since he doesn't have major injury concerns / asked out? Probably more than Fiala since they still needed to work out a deal with him and that was a top prospect and a first. My total guess here would be..... Both first this season, a first next season, maybe like.... a third and you'd probably have to give up one of Edvinsson or Kasper (maybe both)? I honestly am not sure just that it would be a tonnnnnnnnnn is my guess. These trades don't happen super often.
  16. I would probably do 9, 17, future third and an okay prospect (Berggren?) or something for Keller? Maybe future second instead of the third? I also am probably willing to overpay at this point I am sick of the Wings' offense being so blah. Trade all the picks and get Keller and DeBrincat haha.
  17. I'm with buddha I doubt Connor gets moved, but I would give up a ton for him. They're probably moving Hellebuyck and Scheifle, Connor's contract is too much of a steal even when strapped for cap IMO. But I guess stranger things have happened.
  18. I think I would, 24 and had a great season last year. Never had much help in Arizona. That seems like a no brainer for the Wings, would the Sens even entertain that? Would anyone want to take Zadina?
  19. DeBrincat is also only 25, has scored 40 goals twice and was on a 40 goal pace in the covid season. His "bad" season last year would have put him second in goals on the Wings (he would have comfortably been second in points too). He also had the lowest PDO of his career last season and second lowest shooting percentage. His possession numbers were still really strong so I would be shocked if he suddenly was over the hill at age 25. I would love for the Wings to find ways to add some scoring because they desperately need it and young scorers just aren't available usually. The Wings would definitely need to get an extension in place prior to the trade. Friedman seems to think that Detroit is a potential destination but my guess is that no one knows and media are just throwing out logical destinations. It would be great if Detroit could add some scoring talent to the team somehow.
  20. PLD seems like such a high maintenance player. I would do a similar deal to what Ottawa gave up to get him: 7th overall, 39th overall and a third round pick. I have read that they're looking for a goalie and a package like the Eichel trade, so could maybe do something like first round pick, Cossa and a second round pick? I'm not sure I'd want to give up Kasper since he's a center and I don't know if the Sens would ask for anyone else outside of Edvinsson, Wallinder and Mazur. Maybe throw Mazur in there? I just feel like it is going to be a lot.
  21. I am surprised on one hand, but on the other hand the NHL is just an old boys' club that recycles the same coaches and GM's through all the vacancies no matter what. Even outside of his actions being labeled beyond the pale by old school vets like Chris Chelios, the dude didn't have any real success in Toronto and the players in Detroit basically said they won their one cup with Mike in spite of him not because of him. Detroit could never sign any real free agents because no one wanted to play under Babcock. So I don't know why you bother with the public heat for an overrated coach, but it is the Blue Jackets (who also just acquired Provorov) so hopefully they just keep their same status as a nothing franchise under Babcock.
  22. Maybe he's a long lost relative of Benjamin Franklin!
  23. That makes me want to dig my Helm jersey out of storage 😂
