  1. But…she is standing by a body of water. 😁
  2. This guy should have been a weather forecaster. He’s wasting his talents here.
  3. I’ll always see Sparky as my guy in the AL but from 1980 to 1990 Whitey Herzog was my guy in the N.L. I loved those teams he put together.
  4. I never understood the front office decisions to refuse requested pay raises to Roger Craig and Gates Brown after the 1984 season. Contrary to today’s plethora of staff coaches, Brown and Craig accounted for the gist of the dugout staff. Letting both your pitching and hitting coach walk at that point is puzzling to this day to me.
  5. Think Detroit Tigers World Series in 2006 and 2012. That’s all you need to know.
  6. Best compliment I’ve received in some time. Thank you.
  7. I voted Johnson/Weld in 2016. I have no regrets. In fact, in hindsight it looks better everyday with the **** show in Washington. Agreed, most view it as a protest vote that doesn’t really matter most of the time. I get that. “Yeah, they suck equally” The term, “Voting for the lesser of the two evils,” comes to mind here. I guess I’ve voted for the lesser of two evils for years. This time around I can’t do it. There is no way I can vote for either candidate when I don’t believe either candidate is fit. That these two are the only choices we have is a reflection on this country that got us to where we are. For what it’s worth, years ago I stood for a state office during a statewide election. I was a registered Libertarian. I received the obligatory 2% “protest vote” at the time. I am now part of the largest registered voting block in the country-unaffiliated. I don’t want my name associated with either of the two major parties. I understand the consensus opinion on this but that’s where I am.
  8. Well, you pointed out how well the federal government works. What’s next?
  9. I’ll put it this way, I don’t follow Trump at all, honestly. What I know of him through media reports and the like…my impression is that he dislikes ANYONE that disagrees with him, regardless of color or anything else. He will use any person, regardless of race, to promote himself. His using the bible as a campaign prop is beyond the worst one could imagine! He preys on those that idolize him. He doesn’t care who he destroys as long as it benefits him. Trump exploits people’s worst intuitions and will use these things as it benefits him.
  10. A huge congratulations on the Francona hire! I didn’t see that one coming at all. Good to see he’s gotten his health issues addressed and is ready to get back in the dugout.
  11. It’s too early to determine how effective government will be in handling an already disastrous situation. Prior disasters elsewhere always end up with money going unallocated or poorly timed, or outright wasted. Hoping that won’t be the case here. I’m very proud of the local responses in the western part of N.C.
  12. What’s that got to do with anything?
  13. It’s not really fascinating. I’m not going to endorse either of the two candidates through my vote because I disagree with both on most all issues. I have zero confidence that either of them are fit for the job. That includes the office of local dog catcher. I’ll vote the down ticket. There, I’m still debating as well. The same point I make above applies to the NC governor’s race. Well before the CNN story on Robinson broke he was a total no go in my book. Josh Stein is more left of Cooper. I’lll vote on US House races and NC General Assembly races and the more local offices.
  14. Yes. This from theathletic; “During his year away from baseball, Francona has lost about 25 pounds and is in good health. He underwent a shoulder replacement and had two hernias repaired.”
  15. There is no way I can vote for Harris or Trump. If I truly was about “sticking it to the man” as you infer, I’d vote for Harris.
  16. Liz Cheney is on my list as a write-in vote for the presidency.
  17. Absolutely. The 10 yr. spiked on the news.
  18. There is much joy in Mudville I’m sure. The Reds are hiring Terry Francona as their next manager.
  19. His business card reads, Downtown Hunter Brown.
  20. I didn’t realize Hunter Brown is a Detroit native and grew up a Tigers fan.
  21. 10:40 ET -- Nike is one of the most mentioned companies in the U.S. across all news items in the past 12 hours, according to Factiva data. Nike withdrew its full-year guidance and postponed its first investor day in seven years while it evaluates the direction of the company following the appointment of Elliott Hill as chief executive. For the second quarter, Nike said it expects revenue to be down 8% to 10% as it deals with higher promotions and lower benefits from its pricing actions. Analysts polled by FactSet expect second-quarter revenue to be down 6.7%. Nike's change of plans comes as it reports a 10% drop in revenue in its first quarter after delivering lower-than-expected unit sales. Dow Jones & Co. owns Factiva. (chris.wack@wsj.com)
  22. Through the first three playoff games today the home teams are 0-3.
  23. Just heard that. Wow! That’s an ugly streak.
  24. A former Jacksonville Jaguars employee who embezzled more than $22 million from the team is suing FanDuel, alleging that the betting company fueled his fantasy-sports spending and ignored his gambling addiction. Amit Patel, who is serving a six-and-a-half-month federal prison term after pleading guilty to stealing money from the team, claimed in a lawsuit filed Tuesday that a FanDuel VIP host showered him with more than $1 million in betting credits, all-expenses-paid trips and gifts to prey on him. He is seeking $250 million in damages.
