On a somewhat related note: There is a piece in The Athletic today about many of the players not being happy with the quality of this year’s jerseys. Their ire is directed at Nike and Fanatics. I have to agree with them on what I’ve seen.

An apolitical statement: We already have a huge national security threat-the southern border.

The appearance of the new D looks to be larger on the jersey than the previous D on the jersey. I think that’s one thing that makes it undesirable. I believe they went to the new D on the jersey the same year they enlarged the D on the hat to the laughable huge size. They got so much grief they reduced the size of the D on the hat after one year. I think they should reduce the size of the current jersey as well.

Good news! An arrest has been made in the case involving the theft and destruction of a Jackie Robinson statue from a park in Wichita, Kan., the Wichita Police Department said Tuesday. The suspect is charged with felony theft (value over $25,000), aggravated criminal damage to property, identity theft and making false information. "The investigation has not revealed any evidence indicating that this was a hate-motivated crime," said Aaron Moses of the Wichita Police Department. "We believe this theft was motivated by the financial gain of scrapping common metal."

I haven’t seen a City Connect uni that I really like yet. Some are just plain ugly. The ST hats are always crappy (read: Cheap) looking.

I think Chapman will end up in SF for several reasons. Obviously Boras has these guys tied up in wait mode but I would imagine Chapman already has a good sense of where he’s going. I’d be very surprised if Chapman didn’t end up with the Giants.

The following is Keith Law’s commentary on Flores in his ranking of the Tigers top 20 prospects. He has Flores at #14. Interesting. “Flores went to some outside pitching clinic in the 2022-23 offseason and it wrecked his delivery, as he was thrusting his whole lower half forward and his arm couldn’t catch up. He ended up dialing back his velocity to throw more strikes, but just when he was having some success, he hurt his hamstring and missed almost two months. He was 91-95 mph in the fall with a 55 slider and 45 changeup. I don’t know why he sought that additional counsel, but it’s probably set him back a year or two.”

My much better half and I are going down for three games. This will be the third, and likely last, trip to spring training for me. We drive down from N.C. so it’s a bit of a task now days. Attending a few games in ST is great motivator for the season startup. I see in the picture of Keith’s locker that he has his ugly looking 2024 ST hat.

The move comes ahead of Michigan’s Feb. 27 presidential primary and has taken on a new urgency after Biden’s previous attempts to assuage Muslim and Arab-American supporters have proven insufficient. The delegation, led by deputy national security adviser Jon Finer and U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Samantha Power, follows a January visit by campaign manager Julie Chávez Rodríguez, who was publicly rebuffed by the mayor of Dearborn, Mich., and other local Arab-American elected officials. The Thursday trip to Michigan is infused with presidential politics. Polls show Biden trailing former President Donald Trump in Michigan, one of the so-called “Blue Wall” states along the Great Lakes that Biden flipped in his 2020 campaign triumph. Dearborn is home to the largest Muslim population in the U.S. and is roughly 54% Arab-American, according to census figures. Biden won Michigan in the 2020 election by about 150,000 votes, or nearly 3%.

There will always be owners and officers of his ilk. The issue that concerns me is that nobody in the game opposes him. Manfred and all the remaining owners are blessing this move. It sucks for the game.
