  1. KC has been pretty active recently.
  2. I think Matt Chapman would be a good fit in Detroit. Money and length of contract is more than Harris will commit to a contract to get him. I view him as a veteran guy, as in Canha, that younger guys could relate too. He played with a younger and successful team in Oakland and his experiences would probably serve well in Detroit now.
  3. I believe the Rays did well in this deal. The Dodgers are the “drunken sailors” Avila referred to a couple years back.
  4. pending an extension, which I guess they’re negotiating now.
  5. https://www.morningstar.com/economy/we-predict-6-interest-rate-cuts-2024 Their take is that leaving rates higher for longer May contribute to a recession.
  6. fwiw… Morningstar is projecting six rate cuts next year. I would not have imagined that many cuts. There appears to be a Santa Claus rally if it can hold. Santa has a new elf, his name is Jerome.
  7. The two mystery names have been revealed and it’s kind of what you’d expect. Mark Walter, the Dodgers’ controlling owner, and Andrew Friedman, president of baseball operations
  8. https://theathletic.com/5133154/2023/12/12/giants-shohei-ohtani-offer-buster-posey/ Good read on the Giants effort to sign Ohtani.
  9. Ohtani has an opt out in his 10 year deal with the Dodgers. The opt out can be exercised if an unpublicized person, or persons, leave the organization. I would imagine this person, or persons, would be front office people that have a lot of influence on the decisions and direction of the team. He can exercise the opt out at the end of the year of the departure of the unnamed.
  10. I’m not suggesting anything. Them’s the facts.
  11. There was a ceasefire. However, going into it anyone with any knowledge of this situation knew it would be temporary. Bibi has made it very clear that until stated goals are accomplished, Israel isn’t backing off.
  12. Miggie believes in long farewell tours. And yes, he is expecting parting gifts at every stop.
  13. Farhan Zaidi says the Giants offered Ohtani the same deal LA did but Ohtani chose the Dodgers. Not surprising.
  14. Rob Manfred approves.
  15. Consensus from what I’ve read is that it is an overpay by quite a bit. Apparently he was a Boras guy. I guess Boras knew SF was in desperation mode to produce a signing and took full advantage of the situation, which is what he gets paid to do.
  16. Six year deal with an opt out after four years.
  17. Freaky indeed. Turns out the night shift guy was the Great Gazoo!
  18. He’ll make more than that now. He’d probably be a better agent than a lot of them out there now. It’s hard not to like the guy. Being a Dodger will give me reason to try though.
  19. Piss on the Feds but I agree with your above point 100%. It defeats the purpose of the luxury tax entirely.
  20. This should set the Dodgers up nicely to grab Yamamoto. I have to wonder if Ohtani’s plan didn’t have Yamamoto in mind to begin with when constructing the contract. I don’t think you’d get players in many other countries/cultures, if any, to agree to this type deal. Two million a year? Huge egos can’t survive on a paltry two million a year.
  21. Deferred salary aside, Ohtani’s per game salary comes out to about $436,000 over the 10 year deal. Over $100,000 per at bat.
  22. No contest. Betty was totally hot.
  23. To borrow a line from John McEnroe, ‘You can’t be serious.’ Yamamoto is meeting with the Yankees tomorrow. Scott Harris would be the very last guy with any interest in him due to cost. Hader ain’t happening either.
  24. Would not be at all surprised.
  25. I was joking about a lawsuit.
