  1. I read it. It's not quite as good as the top 100, but it's worth reading. It's got a little less depth than the previous book, but some really good stories surrounding baseball's great moments.
  2. That is usually my line!
  3. I second that. It's one of the best baseball books I have ever read. Like you said, I expected to read a lot of stuff about these guys I've already heard before, but it was mostly new. It's a perfect blend of stats and stories. People shouldn't read it as a definitive list. He admits at the outset that it's impossible to do that. It's just great sories.
  4. The Rangers have balls and spent money and made trades at the right time but it's hard to find fault with the Orioles turn around the last couple of years. The Orioles had a great season and should have a good future and more opportunities to win championships. I think it's OK that they didn't trade their prospects this year.
  5. They can still keep track of the wins and losses and stats over the 162 games of both halves combined.
  6. Now that they have close to a balanced schedule, they should eliminate divisions and just take the top six (or how ever many teams they feel is necessary).
  7. But if there are two sets of playoffs, then it doesn't really matter what happens to a team in the second half. They can win their first half championship and fans can feel good about it. There doesn't need to be a set up where we glorify one champion whether it be the third wild card team or an 85-game divison winner. Some years, a team wins two championships in one year, and that will be special like winning the Triple Crown in horse racing or multiple majors in golf.
  8. Unlike other sports, underdogs winning is not really a story in baseball because it happens so often. It all feels random to me which I don't find entertaining. I think the only solution is having fewer teams in the playoffs, so that only geat teams make it most years. That's not going to happen. In fact, I am pretty sure there will be more teams soon.
  9. The list series is here if someone wants to do the work. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/layoffs-havent-hindered-playoff-teams-historically/
  10. Evidence that long layoffs may not hurt teams:
  11. Or they could barnstorm for 8 months periodically having some tournaments. That would be cool.
  12. I could support that. I prefer the long season and don't need them to have any tournaments, but I know most fans like tournaments. playing 162 games just to start all over again with a bunch of short series just seems insane to me though.
  13. He was terrible, but I don't know that what they have now is any better.
  14. I liked it better the old way, but it's not coming back. I do not have a problem with the post-season being separate and distinct from the regular season. The problem is I don't think they are regarded separately. The post-season tournament is regarded as far more important with the winner determining the league champion and the regular season virtually being ignored as far as team accomplishments. I would like the teams with the best records in the regular season to be rewarded more for the regular season records than the post-season tournament. I do understand that the post-season would make no money if it was regarded as a footnote to the regular season, but I don't have to like it. On the other hand, regular season individual accomplishments get more recognition than post-season accomplishments. It's a strange disconnect. That part makes me happy, because I am probably more interested in individual than team accomplishments.
  15. I don't think playing the lower seeded team is a big enough advantage in baseball.
  16. It will go to 16 teams, but there needs to be some incentive in winning the division. Maybe, they'll have more home games for the division winners. I don't really care anymore. I enjoy the regular season more and haven't even watched the playoffs yet this year.
  17. Eisenreich's comeback was a success story. I remember when he played for the crazy Phillies teams of the 90s, Kruk told him: "For the fitrst time in your life, you're the most normal person on the team".
  18. So, try not to be too good during the season! It's OK though because because pretty soon there will be 16 teams in the playoffs.
  19. I don't think he would qualify since he was charged with felonies. "The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place."
  20. I don't get why people think Trump would want to be Speaker of the House. How does that help him? He is not interested in helping Republicans. He is only interested in himself and I don't believe being Speaker would help him advance his status or wealth. I guess I could see him doing it for a few weeks just to stir up trouble and keep himself in the news, but he'd get bored really quick.
  21. Being traded to the Tigers?
  22. The only sources I have are MotownForums posters. You can decide if they are reliable or not.
  23. Totally Tigers and Heyman are not the most reliable combo! However, I have seen elsewhere (I believe Morosi) thst the Tigers have checked in on Yamamoto.
  24. I think it was a reference to having a different line-up every day.
