  1. He was happy the Cardinals won, but disappointed that it was a poorly played series by the Tigers. We were hoping for a classic like 34 and 68. Plus, at 82 years old, he had kind of lost some of his energy for the game...for a lot of the same things I complain about now. He is still with us.
  2. Ted Cruz should have punched Trump in the face for that comment about his wife. It would have been the first time anybody respected him.
  3. Trump doesn't love anyone. He finds some people useful.
  4. I hope you are right. I have not seen it in my limited experience.
  5. People that already feared the Republicans fear them more now. The same thing is happening on the other side. MAGAs are talking about the "fascists in Washington" all the time. They hate them as much as Democrats hate the Republicans. I don't have a problem with Biden in technical terms. The problem is he's very uninspiring and a poor communicator (which I think is an important part of a President's job) and I think that hurts him as a President. People have very low confidence in him whether he deserves it or not. I think the average American views him as weak and that's not a good quality in a President. I don't know if any of that makes him a bad president, but I believe it's going to hurt him in the election.
  6. I have been a fan since 1968. http://www.detroittigertales.com/2006/10/tiger-fan-in-massachusetts.html
  7. Is there a photo of Fidrych which is not a classic? What a wonderful character he was.
  8. It seemed like just the opposite was happening in the past where Trump tended to do slightly better in the real election than in the polls.
  9. Also, climate change is huge. Young people are terrified of climate change and they don't think he's done enough about it. Why would they fear a perceived loss of democracy if we are doomed by our environment anyway.
  10. I think they show enough to tell us that he's got a legitimate chance to win. At no point over the past 7 years has he dropped in popularity (as weak as it may be) for any length of time. I think you overestimate the hatred the general population has for Trump. Most just don't care enough to hate a politician. There are a lot of people who think he's nasty and a goofball, but that he's a good businessman who knows how to run the economy. They view him the same way they did it 2016. Also, Biden is wildly unpopular for good reason or not. The only people who really like Biden are Dem loyalists who would vote D no matter what.
  11. He is beating Biden in every single poll I see now and Biden is a very unpopular president. I think trump can beat him in a fair election. I don't understand why you say he can't. It seems like the same kind of thinking that helped him win in 2016.
  12. I just finished reading a Stan Musial biography and learned that he worked in his home town grocery store during the off-season after winning his first MVP. Late in his career, after a bad season, he willingly took a 20% pay cut because he felt he deserved it and wanted to repay his employers for their kindness over the years. Curt Flood and Bob Gibson were not happy! They though he was a good man, but very naive.
  13. No, I think he's nearly a lock to get the nomination. He's got a good shot at winning the general election too, but it's far from a lock. I think it's going to be a closely contested race as it usually is and that neither side will accept the result if they lose and there will be four more years of angst either way.
  14. That's not going to happen though. Realistically, you can only hope for incremental changes. If Trump is proven unelectable, then there will be opportunities to make changes. I don't even think his policies (which seem to come mostly from watching TV) are especially conservative. What makes him dangerous is his psychopathy. I have almost no hope that he will be beaten, but having him lose would be a big positive for the country.
  15. I once threw over 200 pitches in a Little League game. The manager brought me back to pitch again two days later. Today's pitchers are too soft.
  16. You guys seem so convinced that Trump is going to start a brutal right-wing dictatorship, that it seems logical that you would try to vote him out as early as possible. While I am not quite that fearful of a Trump presidency, I think he is a very unhealthy and dangerous influence on our country and the sooner we can end his political career, the better.
  17. During the Deadball era, pitchers were capable of excelling with three days rest so it seems that style of play is as important as physiology. In more modern times, it is possible that there are some pitchers who might do better on five or more days rest even if the standard four days is optimal for most. It doesn't have to be one size fits all if a team is willing to be creative.
  18. In Massachusetts, we don't have to register as a Republican to vote in their primary. I plan to vote for her to do my part in ridding my country of the madman. I will vote Democrat in the general.
  19. To be fair, the MAGA leader, has never ever announced or even considered a code of conduct
  20. Is it optimal because they have been conditioned to do that for years or because there is something about the human genetic make-up that makes four days optimal?
  21. They've been trying to protect them, but they keep getting hurt. I think it's more that modern pitchers throw too hard than too much.
  22. Because of the bats or because of the pitching? There is still no system that accurately predicts pitching from year to year.
  23. Good poll for Haley in New Hampshire. This is the first glimmer of hope that someone could make a run at Trump if other opponents drop out. I am no fan of Haley, but if someone somewhat normal can defeat the dickbag psychopath, it would be a positive thing for our country. I don't agree at all with those who want trump to win because he has no chance of beating Biden. He has a great chance of beating Biden. https://www.politico.com/news/2023/12/17/cbs-poll-haley-closing-gap-new-hampshire-00132173
  24. That is how I see it. I trust him not to do anything stupid, but I get the feeling he might be too cautious to pull the trigger at the right time. I also don't know what kind of budget he'll have. I don't think they'll be Tampa Bay, but are they going to be the Braves or Brewers?
  25. A Masshole is a tourist from Massachusetts. Sometimes they get too comfortable and move to southern, NH. The latter group tends to like lower taxes, but remains socially liberal.
