  1. I think it was a reference to having a different line-up every day.
  2. Bad umpire calls are annoying when they happen, but I always get over them pretty quickly. They have a tough job with no glory, only blame. I'd rather blame players or really just circumstances. Or even better, blame the manager or GM. Just like in real life!
  3. The play I most remember from that game was Polanco not making the play in extra innings. It was a double play ball that would have ended the game. The announcer raised his voice in anticipation of the game ending play. The only question was whether it would be a DP or just a forceout. Then he didn't make the play at all. It wasn't an error, but is was a play he makes all the time. The Inge play was big too, but it impacted me less because the way the game was going, they probably would have blown it in the bottom of the inning anyway.
  4. My view on politicians is we don't agree with THEM. They pretend to agree with US, so they can get votes. That is true of both Republicans and Democrats.
  5. No.
  6. Yes, B-ref has JAWS. They calculate WAR over the best seven years of a player's career (WAR7) and then then take the average of WAR and WAR7 to get JAWS. Here are the results for first basemen: https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/jaws_1B.shtml It may surprise some people that Cabrera ranks better on WAR than WAR7.
  7. Probably the same. Pitchers are expected to have shorter careers and are usually remembered for their peaks. Also, I think it's understood that you can't compare pitcher counting stats across eras because pitcher usage has changed so much. At least, it should be understood. Cabrera's last 7 years have zero effect on his peak dominance. Cabrera was a little more dominant at his peak than Thome. He was not more dominant than Ramirez and Thomas though. I would say they were pretty similar. They also have little effect on his all-time ranking for me, but that is the problem. They could have enhanced his status and they didn't. Cabrera was awesome. I don't even know what we arguing about. I am just not going to say he was one of five greatest hitters ever because of four arbitrary categories designed to eliminate guys like Ruth and Williams.
  8. Maybe he would have been Hank Aaron instead of Manny Ramirez.
  9. Stats are not arbitrary when you use them to try to fairly answer questions. Using them to try to make your favorite player look better than Ted Williams and Hank Aaron is a misuse of stats. He is absolutely a Hall of Famer. He's just not in the sane class of guys like Hank Aaron and Ted Williams. He's Manny Ramirez (who statistically meets Hall of Fame standards) and Frank Thomas. Nothing wrong with that. I disagree that he'll look better over time. I think he'll look worse over time because his WAR total is not very high for a hitter of his caliber and that is more and more becoming the standard. I think he's probably a little better than his career WAR suggests, but he's still not Aaron or Williams.
  10. Your usually rightish.
  11. "I'm a legitimate person" I knew he was a fraud 40 years ago.
  12. montreal would get twice that with a good team.
  13. Trump would never do that. Going from President to Speaker would be a huge drop in status. There is nothing in it for him.
  14. Impemba is OK. No need to bring back Allen. He is better than Monroe, but that's not saying much.
  15. Yeah, I see him on Twitter. He is a pleasant guy but he's like a labrador receiver. Everything thing that happens is the greatest thing ever.
  16. I am on board. I don't see Harris and Hinch as revolutionaries though. I see them as trying to get the Tigers caught up with other analytical teams.
  17. Throwing out names is dangerous because every player either sucks or won't play for Detroit or costs too much!
  18. I want to see the Tigers be more aggressive this off-season, but I don't want them to spend for the sake of spending. if nobody wants to sign a reasonable deal, then move on to trades. I want them to be creative and try to do things. I don't believe that "nobody will sign" or that none of their players are worth anything in a trade. Harris and Greenberg are smart guys, so try to get something done.
  19. I wasn't referring to anyone. Just being flip.
  20. multi-position versatility and budget efficiency.
  21. If they spent on the right players last year, they would have been in the race down to the end. If they spent on the wrong players, then no, but you can't win if you don't play.
  22. They are waiting for all of Avila's picks to graduate to the majors.
  23. He gawn. He gonna go grab some bench.
  24. Gipson-Long Justin-Henry Kiner-Falefa That's just too many hyphens.
