  1. Is there any chance Holton is converted to a starter? If he is a career reliever, he may have just had his best season. They don't have to deal him, but they should shop him and she what offers they get. Statcast numbers are much less predictive for pitchers than hitters. His stuff metrics (a little more predictive than statcast metrics) are less impressive.
  2. It depends on his contract status. He has options remaining, but may start to get too expensive. I think Edman said he was on the fence for arbitration. Personally, I hope stays in the organization for another year. He was rushed to the majors, but he does have some tools
  3. You beat me to it!
  4. I liked him a lot better when he was violent.
  5. Cabrera's first 9 years in Detroit: .325/.405/.573 51 war Cabrera's last 7 years in Detroit: .261/.328/.379 0 war
  6. Why not both?
  7. Of course he didn't purchase the gun. It's more likely that they paid him to use his likeness on the gun and then they sold it for thousands. And even if he wanted the gun, he wouldn't have paid for it with his own money.
  8. which they also can't do anymore. Madlock was good for them that year.
  9. I do worry a little about young players who outperform their reputations. That might be why he appeared in trade rumors around the deadline.
  10. There could be a trade from that group to get a position player with a different skillset (someone who can field). Carpenter and Rogers were rumored to be on the block at the deadline, so they could be shopped too. I am not sure who they might get in a trade until I know who seems to be available. I just expect them to be a bit more adventurous this off-season. I don't know whether they will actually complete a trade, but I think already have an idea of what these guys can do and they will not necessarily wait until they see what they do next year.
  11. The Blue Jays got pissed because it was like the Cubs just lent the the Tigers a player for one week to help them beat the Blue Jays.
  12. I see it as just a fun gesture and lot of the gifts are joke gifts. The cost is irrelevant. He easily has enough money to buy an entire winery if he so chooses.
  13. I remember reading about Dicky Noles' alcohol problems. One time he got drunk and assaulted a police officer. He went to substance abuse treatment where it was determined that he was not actually an alcoholic. He just liked to drink. Desperate for relief help late in the 1987 pennant race, the Tigers signed him for the last week of the season and he pitched two innings.
  14. It is also could be a test of how much Ilitch is willing to spend now and in the future. Having a competent front office is really important but williningness of the owner to spend is also really important.
  15. Cabrera and Rodriguez are coming off the books, so they should be able to do more than last off-season unless they plan on cutting the budget even more.
  16. Too many walks though. His control has been off the past month. I still expect him to get a better deal after he opts out.
  17. Tiger337 is a terrible name too, but I'm kind of stuck with it having using it my entire cyber life.
  18. I am seeing Torkelson getting called SpennyT. That's a terrible nickname. It's all right for his teammates to call him that, but it's not a fan nickname.
  19. Lange with the four-out save. Todd Jones style.
  20. That was quite a life he had post-baseball especially considering that Anderson suggested that he was too soft.
  21. If they have an 81-85 win in house already, then make it a 85-88 win team. I don't want any of those Padres contracts. Sign Eduardo Rodriguez and Jung Hoo Lee. Be a wizard and make a Carlos Guillen type deal. Maybe they can't do any of that this off-season, but that kind of movement should not be viewed as beyond their means and ability. There are teams that improve every off-season. Why not us with our savvy new front office?
