  1. That fact created a lot of anger on the board several years ago. He was viewed by some as a player who was purely a scouting acquisition, somebody that the sabers could not have projected. However, he was actually projected to do well in the majors based on his minor league numbers. Perhaps, the sabers were not right. Maybe, he didn't have the right approach at that time and only put up good numbers in the minors because the parks good for hitters and the pitchers were bad. Maybe, he did need to make an adjustment to become good in the majors. But he DID do well in the minors.
  2. So much of 2021 was based on a flukey good bullpen. Maybe, it wasn't luck. Maybe it was Fetter's influence, but the improved record in 2021 was largely because of the bullpen. So far, their bullpen looks like garbage.
  3. Fick wasn't much. Inge (no matter how much people hated his personality) and Avila both had pretty solid careers. You'd have to consider both of them pluses in terms of player development.
  4. The passwords fit.
  5. It was a rivalry, but I don't think Tigers fans hated the Blue Jays like the White Sox or Twins. I personally liked the Blue Jays. I usually don't lke expansion teams and like to see them suffer for a few years before they win anything, but the Blue Jays never bothered me. The team I disliked the most growing up was the Orioles.
  6. Yes, there are still pitchers who are capable of doing that and they are very valuable. I think there are 7 inning pitchers, 5 inning pitchers, 3 inning pitchers, 1 inning pitchers. For years, it seems like teams have gone with the model of 6+ inning starters and a bunch of 1 inning relievers, with nothing in between.
  7. yeah, that's a good point. That is why I'd like to see more usage of long relievers. That way you don't leave the starter in to pitch through the order too many times and you don't have a parade of relievers.
  8. I think most teams have stopped pushing their starters for the most part. What I is missing I think is the secondary group which you mentioned - the consistent three inning relievers. I don't think there are enough humans capable of pitching in the majors where you can keep on bringing in a new reliever in every inning after the the fifth inning like we are seeing regularly in baseball today.
  9. How have the never Trumpers been doing?
  10. He has more career WAR than any other Tigers 3B: Fryman 28 Kell 23 Inge 19 Boone 16
  11. They will draft a hard throwing left hander with command problems, but nasty stuff. He missed his Freshman year with a shoulder problem, but he's OK now.
  12. And the righties are amused that the shooter apparently had pronouns in his bio. Really, that's the first thing they think about after a mass shooting? What a sick country we have become.
  13. Making projections after the first 9 games of the season is only slighty better than making projections after spring training.
  14. I would think that even a serious and responsible pro-gun person would not be in favor of photos which portray guns in such a casual manner.
  15. Spring training is not completely meaningless, but I don't think it's very meaningful. Batters go up against minor league pitchers and major leaguers who are not going all out. I would rather see a player hit well than not hit well in Spring training, but there is very little correlation between spring training and regular season performance.
  16. Was the side door locked?
  17. Nothing has really changed. That first from Chas is pretty much the same thing we get here every day now. "Five games, four runs, sixteen hits. In order of games played: four hits; three hits; three hits; three hits; three hits. Amazing. This is not just, "Tigers suck". This is ineptitude of historic proportions. I cannot imagine that any other team in the history of major league baseball ever got only sixteen hits over five consecutive games ..."

  20. So, basically they have distorted the whole game just because "chicks dig the longball".
  21. I don't know the story behind this video, but if the Uvalde cops didn't look bad enough already...
  22. It seems like teams are doing everything they can to protect their pitchers, but it also seems like they are getting hurt as much as ever. Is it working?
