I have been reading all of William Kent Krueger's books this year. His Cork O'Conner series is great. Mystery thrillers where you really care about the characters.

I think women have a harder time overcoming scandals than men because they are expected to be sweet and kind and upright whereas it's considered ok and even good for a man to be a bad boy sometimes. Women are also "too weak", but if a woman behaves strong, then she's a b****.

A friend, who is fairly intelligent most of the time, accused her of changing her whole life by stealing a job from an Indian. It's amazing how they make BS like that stick.

Boring or not, she has a personality problem which has her permanently buried. She often sounds like a Harvard professor attempting to be cool. There is no way she will ever appeal to the masses.

Biden and Trump are old and they are probably both going to run and I think she is healthier physically and mentally than both of them. I think she's smart, but not a good candidate because she is boring. I don't mind boring, but most Americans do.

More funny stuff. I think both parties are led by self serving phonies and I think politicians generally tend to be insufferable narcissists. It's funny when people pretend that their party has some kind of moral or ethical superiority over the other when morals and ethics are not the goal of either party. The Republicans are just a little funnier because they whine so much about being victims.

His post was amusing. It's funny when people suggest that their party is more upright than the other party. "Dems do corruption better" 😃

I don't know either. I wish there was a place where we could get reliable scouting reports of all players. That would require a bunch of people independent of MLB who were skilled at scouting and I don't think there are too many people like that. It couldn't be a free source site because then you'd probably get a lot fans who think they are good at it but really aren't.

It was two years before free agency, but yes it was the length of contract that was terrible. He would have been 32 at the end of that contract. So then they extended him eight more years beyond that. That is absurd.

My point was he still wouldn't have gone to free agency if they made the same offer a year later.

Cabrera was not likely to take it to FA given the ridiculous contract he was offered.

The question with him is how long can play shortstop. His defensive numbers were way down in 2020 and he played mostly second base last year because of Bichette. He is also the oldest of the bunch.

I agree. His contract, as bad as it was, has probably not prevented them from spending. Having an old replacement level DH in the middle of the line-up for five years hasn't even been a big problem because they haven't been in contention. It could become one soon.

I'd be happy with any of the top five and disappointed if they get shut out.

Cabrera was 30+ and fat when he signed his big deal and his contract still had two years to go, so it was unnecessary. Few wanted to say it at the time because they loved Cabrera, but that was a terrible contract and probably solely an ilitch signing. Signing Correa or Seager to a ten year deal would be risky, but not comparable to Cabrera.

Seager has not been durable at all so far.

Correa is my choice, but the consolation prizes are good too.
