  1. Fans pump up prospects too much and are then are too fast to write them off.
  2. It's surprising that they brought him up at all given that he batted .132/.270/.245 in July.
  3. Same as it's always been. You don't want your young pitchers racking up 130 innings in starts, but I don't really see pitchers being healthier today than the used to be. All the protective measures don't seem to be keeping pitchers healthier. Medical advances are healing pitchers a lot better than the old days, but they are still getting hurt in great numbers.
  4. I can't really say that Avila is as incompetent as people say. I don't know enough. I just see other re-building teams seemingly making more successful trades and acquiring more international talent and wonder why the Tigers lag behind. After several years of re-building, the results are disappointing and I think it's time to move on.
  5. One could very easily be a good scout and poor GM which I suspect is the case with Avila.
  6. He's a Yankee and he's white, so it's totally legit.
  7. There does not appear to be any correlation between team home runs and strikeouts. The Tigers definitely lack home runs though.
  8. In the last 20 years, there are 11 teams with higher strikeout rates, so he was wrong about that too. There are too many strikeouts in the game today, but it's everybody, not just the Tigers.
  9. That's what I don't get. I get why people hate liberals. I get why people hate government. I don't get why so many fall for this fraud of a human being. It's so obvious that all he cares about is himself. Why can't people see that?
  10. And all they got was a pitcher with three last names.
  11. Yes, each game is the same, but that is not the point. Getting back to championships, if the Tigers make the playoffs five years in a row (yeah, I know that's crazy!) they are more likely to win at least one championship than if they only make the playoffs once in five years.
  12. Correct. We do not have a justice system. The wealthy and powerful have their own set of rules.
  13. If I watch ten Tigers games and you watch just one, who is more likely to see at least one Tigers victory?
  14. I am glad KL is here to teach us how to do maths.
  15. 8.3% is not such a low probability that you'll benefit much from doing something more complex than binomial. Anyway, it doesn't become 50% until you reach 8 seasons. So, if a team gets into the playoffs 7 times, odds are they will not win a championship. So, it's not surprising that there are teams that go to the playoffs over and over without winning it all. You do increase your chances though.
  16. It's better to win the championship than just make the playoffs, but there really isn't much (if anything) you can do the build a championship team that is diferent from building a playoff team. The more times you make the playoffs, the better chance you have to win a championship. So, if a GM puts his team in position to make the playoffs year after year, then he is doing it right.
  17. The prevailing opinion of Barnhart seemed to be he was a major league catcher and a decent stopgap who they got for a fringe prosoect. If he hit this year the way he did most of his career, few would be complaining about him. I also like calling him "Pooch"
  18. I think that's silly.
  19. I have enjoyed many if not most of the last 38 seasons including some of the seasons where they had little chance to win but had some interesting players to follow. My hyperbole was in response to your hyperbole that the Brewers should not be praised for having a good organization the last few years because they haven't won any championships. I think that's ridiculous.
  20. Left arm fatigue...The way this season is going, he'll be on the IL later this week
  21. So, you've basically been wasting your time following the Tigers for the last 38 years.
  22. They'll happily give it to him. That's how dumb they are.
